Would rate it 4.5. Food is consistently tasty. Wait times for tables are not bad however the wait times for the food order to arrive can make you frustrated at times. If you are really hungry and dont want to wait even a teeny bit, skip this place. I love the appam and egg masala the most. Have tried every appetizer except the prawns and they are all good. Biriyani is a bit different from other restaurants but is still good. My friends say the crab masala is the must-try here but I dont eat crab so cannot confirm that. Limited dessert and drink options but overall, the taste and consistency of the food hits the right spot and I keep coming back. Try the sweet pan on your way out. They only take cash ($1.50) for it though. Not super expensive. thali meals cost under $15 and are a good option as well.

"Expensive for quantity of food, non friendly staff. Order any regular item(non tiffins) and wait for 2 hours to get your order." I went to this restaurant at least 2 times. It was bad experience both the times. If we order anything a part from traditional Appam or Tiffins, they will take for ever to get your order. Goat soup is like having oil soup. Fun fact, Butter Chicken & Chicken tikka masala were exactly same in this place(Chicken tikka masala has extra cauliflower in it). Food taste is similar to 1000 other Indian restaurants in Bay Area. Staff were not friendly and forget hospitality. Why dont these expensive restaurants have a decent staff!!!

Amazing, authentic Tamil Nadu and Keralan cuisine. I have been to this outlet 3-4 times now, and each time it impresses. They have both South & North Indian food, but if I were you, Id skip the North Indian/"Western" style Indian food, and go straight for the Appams, Dosais and Idlis. Even the South Indian "Thali" is very good, but you only get it during lunch. If you are tired of the North Indian curries and butter chickens, and interested in trying cuisine from a different region of India, check AapaKadai out. If you are Indian and miss authentic Indian food, definitely head out to AapaKadai. Either way, you will never be disappointed!!

We were quickly seated at our table. The server took our order without any delay. The service was also speedy. Mutton Biriyani special had two pieces of mutton, one was about 95% bone. That was disappointing! The "fried" chicken entree and fried whole fish appetizer were both good. All three were from the specials menu that does not list prices- ask about prices before ordering. The service from the server was good. The service from the cashier was poor. He had trouble making eye contact and seemed to be having a bad day which he made clear from his facial cues, abrupt actions and lack of a departing guest farewell greeting.

Really solid South Indian food. I really liked it. Id have given it five stars if the Aapam had come out hot and crisp. Everything tasted authentic which is saying a lot. I hate South Indian restaurants in California. I grew up in Tamil Nadu and Kerela so I know how bad it can be in the South Bay. This place was just on the mark. Biriyani was good. Mutton curry and aapam was great. Crispy fried prawn was excellent. They also have a tonne of stuff you never see in other South Indian restaurants. If youve never had an aapam but you like dosa then this is a great place to try them.

This is our version of comfort food since brings back childhood memories from grandma recipes to adolescent hangouts. I always take my visiting Indian friends here for a hearty meal and to tempt them to move to Bay Area from whichever corner of USA. It is unfortunately not popular for westerners and stays a hidden gem for long. When you eventually discover it, try their crab curry, whole pomfret fry, aapam with chettinad chicken, kothu parotta and mutton roast

To be honest, I liked their Natukozi chicken biryani (weekend special). They provide this chicken biryani only on weekends that too alternate weekends, since I dont eat mutton, I have to wait for right weekend to come. Since like most of us, I cant keep track of the weekends when they have chicken biryani. so last three times i called they had "ambur" biryani (mutton biryani). I felt frustrated so decided to write this review.

Food is very tasty and and reasonably priced. Some of the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the ingredients (We had to avoid many items because of food allergies and they were very helpful). All of the APPETIZER are loaded with red food color and they are very proud of that... I dont understand the reason many Indian restaurants add tooo much food color. Its a very nice place to have some nice chettinad food.....

If you want to get cold food and have rude behavior from staff and manager, do visit this place. 1. Worst experience ever we had visiting this place. 2. Manager was so rude when we asked him to replace our Dosa since it was tasting bitter and was uneatable. 3. He said he wont replace it in a very angry tone. We were shocked to hear this. I would strongly recommend against visiting such horrible place.

The chicken curry was very good with tender pieces of meat and a nice heat compared to the mildness of other local restaurant curries Ive tried. I was disappointed at lunch to find out they only serve naan at dinner. The server was very helpful in answering questions about the menu. However, the atmosphere was somewhat sterile because of the high industrial ceilings and outdated decor.

It is definitely much better one than the Santa Clara appa kadai... in terms of space, (high ceiling) hygiene, food taste etc.. The service here is more friendly and quick as well. The food esp their popular and specials of day such as biryanis are not all that fresh even on a busy day... if you are getting quick tiffin like appam then it is freshly made I guess.

Oddly enough, it was a reviewer writing about how the soup was "inedibly spicy" that sold us. Yep, thats what we are looking for! We did order that soup, and while it was too spicy for me to eat much of, it had really wonderful flavors, and my friend, who has a higher tolerance for spice, enjoyed it. Delicious Indian food, no skimping on the heat level.

2nd time here. Had kheema aapam the last time and tried aapam with goat curry this time around. Was excited and did not get disappointed. Loved it. Had chicken lollipops and mutton soup too. Tasted fantastic. The ambience is great. Neat place too. Heard its been around for a while and taste has been consistent throughout. Kudos to that. Must try.

Though this Indian place has been around for a few years now, quality hasnt gone down unlike other places. This is the only restruant we keep visiting since 4 years now. Great food here - very soft naan, love their paneer aapam, chef special dishes are all good, and of course, lunch thalis - love the chapathi which is very well rotated evenly.

Tasty food but a terrible serving experience - dishes took a long time to arrive, naan was supposed to take 20 mins but still showed up on time for the mutton while aappams ordered only got to us after main course was done :-( Wouldnt suggest visiting here during busy weekend hours, delivery might spare you from a lot of serving mistakes.
