Wish I could give ALL 0s. Lets put it this way I grew up in San Marino and would go to the Ai resturant often but tonight I went in to eat and the woman at the counter didnt acknowlege me or my father for 5 minutes. She was too busy writing up a bill for some table. I saw a waiter and said, " Could we eat at that booth over there"...he said he would have to clean it. We were ready to seat ourselves when he told us you need to ask the hostess to seat you. When I went back to the busy hostess she said nothing and still wouldnt give us the time of day. Finally I asked if I could have the booth she said how many, I said two and then she said how many again in a rude tone...yes two I said, and then told me to sit over there and wait. There were plenty of empty tables! So I told my dad we dont need this and we got up and left! Why should I pay good money to be abused. Save your money the owner and the food both SUCK! By the way they have a sign right on the hostesses stand that states "WE REFUSE TO SERVE ANYONE" Many resturants have this sign hidden but not Ai they have it promptly displayed...guess they hate serving people! SHAME on them!

I give it ZERO STARS but it wont let me. Friday night, empty tables, people waiting to be seated, empty hostess stand. The decor is typical Japanese restaurant style but do not be fooled. The sushi is disgusting, frozen and tasteless at best, smelly and half skin at worst. They put cooked shrimp on the sashimi platter as well as some other disgusting cooked white fish with a lot of black/silver skin. The lowest possible quality food I have ever tasted. If you dont live in South Pasadena, dont make the drive and definitely do not take a date there. We get sick every time we go there, this was no exception, this was definitely my last visit...my intestines are still having spasms--three days later. ZERO STARS people, and I will eat just about anything.

I will never go to AI Japanese Restaurant in Pasadena Ca again.U cant believe what happen yesterday while having lunch with my family.We starting to eat our chicken teriyaki w/tempora when the waiter had the balls to come up to the table and demand a TIP after we were done.I was mortified!! I have never had a waiter demand a FUCKEN TIP.so guess what I did..after my family and I were done having our lunch, I place a penny on the table and told him "your tips on the table.A**H*le

When family went to eat for my birthday i had worst experience ever we had a great time eating at first but after when we went to pay the waiter told the cashier we didnt leave a tip and so the cashier tried taking money from us for the tip so my dad took the change he was suppose to get and left after that she said she would never serve us again who has the fucken balls to say that like really those money hunger theifs should be lucky im not going back

We enjoyed a lovely dinner for 4 tonight. The service was gracious and the food was delicious! This was our second experience dining there and we enjoyed it very much both times. Music was jazz piano but not loud. We had noodle soup with tempura along with yellow tail, eel sushi and hot saki. Definitely comfort food. I just wish it had been raining outside.

5 stars for the food & the fun. I always sit at the sushi bar and am always entertained and well fed. Remember to ask about the chef specials - theres always something delish. Not necessarily a place for kids (no children @ the bar) and not if youre the sensitive type. The conversation (as well as the fish) is very FRESH.

I love this place! The always fresh sushi/sashimi is to die for. Lunch special is so affordable it does not cover the fuel it takes to catch it. Full bar, great food and the best part....real Japanese chefs making the food instead of wannabe knockoffs. Oh did I mention, they have been here for 40 years.....got it down.

Portion become half size in 7 months. Ginger,is cheapest,viniger tast,now.Spanish waitress moody,and forgetful. Halfowner old lady,mean,even as hostess ,not nice.price been increased 15-20%! Rice only fresh 1-2days a week.tuna is the low quality.only recommended for medium quality people who doesnt care,too much.

I enjoy the food here. The Beef Terriyaki with Tempura is great! The sushi is good. The only drawback is the fact that they do not accomadate small children. No highchairs or booster seats. The hostess and waitresses get real nervous around the little ones.
