Good atmosphere and vibe, nice booths for groups of 5 or less. Lots of families and tourists. They validate parking for the garage that is adjacent to the restaurant (Japanese Village Parking). Gets very busy on the weekends so expect a wait during dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. Came in on a Thursday around 8 with my girlfriend and we were seated immediately. I had the beef noodle bowl and it was FANTASTIC. Honestly one of the best Japanese udon style noodle bowls Ive ever had. The broth was so hearty and flavorful it warmed my sould, the beef was so tender I barely had to chew it and the noodles pretty much melted in my mouth. I was very impressed by this $8 bowl. My girlfriend got the chicken teriyaki meal and it was pretty good. Nothing to rave about, standard chicken teriyaki, but it was a decent meal that was fairly priced. We got some hot green tea that was excellent as well to wash it all down. The service was great and very friendly and they made sure that we got our parking validated, I probably would have forgotten because I was so euphoric from the beef noodle bowl.

I tried this place out for lunch yesterday. It was recommended by a friend and there was a wait so that is usually a good sign, however this was a waste of a lunch palate. The service was very poor and the sushi rolls and miso soup were not very flavorful. If you order miso soup be sure to ask for a spoon ahead of time because they didnt seem to bring you a spoon for the soup unless you asked. It takes about 10 minutes for them to take your order. The sushi rolls were your typical expensive cost so youd expect the rolls to be amazing except they were the exact opposite. The pieces do not stay stuck together when you grab them with your chopsticks and there was absolutely no flavor --- I actually felt forced to use soy sauce. I was really excited about trying this restaurant out, but for the price you pay it was quite the disappointment.

I was here for lunch with my friend who was visiting from Japan. Oh my god, the service was really slow, and our server was Japanese lady and she was ok, but other lady was so rude. My friend ordered omakase lunch sushi, you get 10 pieces of sushi and it was like $17. As soon as we received it, we both lost the words. It didnt look delicious at all and $17? Not a good deal because you get 10 pieces of cheap sushi, and they were all cut into thin slices. We asked if we can return (cancel) it, but they said no, so we just decided to order more sushi. When we ordered from sushi list, fish were all cut into thicker pieces. But I just didnt like sushi at all. Awabi and uni was fishy, california roll was disappointed too. I also had chirachi and it was ok. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL. I dont understand why this place is so busy!

Oomasa is one of the oldest and most traditional sushi restaurants in J-Town. It definitely tasted better in the older days because the last few times I went there, the food was okay and nothing much more. The sushi/sashimi is of fairly good, but not excellent, quality. As for the entrees, like the tempura and teriyaki, theyre okay but not great. I find it kind of suprising considering the restaurant is runned by a Japanese and the whole overall vibe is pretty authentic. In all, I wouldnt highly recommend this place unless you have nowhere else to go around the neighborhood. Sushi Gen is way better in terms of quality and taste. But I guess Oomasa is still better than Frying Fish and the other all-you-can-eat sush joints

I have been in LA for about a month for work and cant tell you how many meals I have had that sucked. Hip Overpriced and underflavored seem to be common in LA. BUT then I stumbled on this place in Little Tokyo. WOW! O Omasa is great Sushi and Hot Dishes at incredibly low prices. The place was really crowded but not in that "trendy way to cool for school way". Instead it was busy because of incredible quality at super low prices. I had the #6 Sashimi, Sushi, Tempura, Salad, Soup, and Ice Cream for $15 and my husband had the pork cutlet with salad soup and rice for $9. Fantastic!

The tempura is the star of the show here. I got the #6 lunch special with tempura, sushi, sashimi and salad. The sashimi was cut too thick for my taste, the sushi was fine but the tempura was excellent. The shrimp was perfectly al dente, not overcooked and rubbery like you might find at many other places and all the vegetables were soft and tender with a perfectly light and crispy shell. Whoever is working the fryer back there really knows what theyre doing! Baby changing table only in the womens restroom, daddies are not encouraged to be a part of their babies lives here!

Sushi at the counter and combos/bento boxes in the booths. Great place for Japanese comfort foods. Lunch deals can be ordered by number. Theyre some combination of sushi, tempura, chicken/beef/pork, sashimi, and all with salad, miso, and pickled cabbage etc... Quite a deal! Pro tip: upon entering, immediately grab a number card from the hook on the wood panel facing the door. This is how you reserve your spot in line, not by speaking with a host!

Very average Americanized Japanese food. I would give them three stars for that. But the serving sizes on their $15 rolls were small,...Youd need two of them to fill up. Combo meals were the best priced option for a reasonable quantity of food, but the food quality really is nothing special. If you are coming here as a tourist to experience Japan, this place does not represent Japan. Service was average, took a while to get a water refill.

If you want good authentic sushi. Go to Tokyo! Ok, you probably already knew that. But this is really the next best thing that Ive found in LA. Most places now in Little Tokyo are run by Koreans and its a little weird and Hollywood has all weird and stupid American sushi "firecracker rolls" and things. This one does too, but they are very limited and their selection of authentic traditional sushi is very wide, fresh and so very good.

This restaurant has been around forever. Its one of the original restaurants in the plaza who still makes excellent Japanese food. A small restaurant with lots of character, they get pretty busy at lunch. Try their combo plates to experience the different dishes; tonkatsu, sushi, and tempura for example. Unfortunately, I had forgotten my phone so I dont have any pictures but if you saw them, your mouth would already be watering!

The food is overpriced for what it is on top of bad service. Me and 3 others went at about 8pm and the waiter was unfriendly and didnt even apologize after spilling soup on my lap. Even if it was an hour before closing time, thats no excuse for sloppily bringing us the food and spilling soup on the table and my lap. Little Tokyo has many other alternatives that are more bang for your buck.
