Very tiny hall-in-the wall place. There are only 3 tables plus counter seats. The service was little slow since there was only one Japanese lady working in front. I ordered beef teriyaki and katsu dinner combination, comes with miso soup and rice. Total $15. I was really hoping to have some cheap, real Japanese food but unfortunately, the food wasnt good as I expected. Pork cutlet was too tough, beef teriyaki was tasteless and I just didnt like my food at all. And $15 for what I ate wasnt cheap. The quality of the food I ate is more like $6. I left disappointed. Maybe my choice was bad.

My family stopped by Otomisan several months ago while we were in the area and stopped after seeing the positive reviews here. What a delicious meal it turned out to be! We found out from the staff the restaurant has been around for decades, and I hope it will be around for many more years. The decor and furniture look like it hasnt been updated in years, but dont let that deter you from having a meal here cos it is well-worth it! It will definitely be a stop whenever I am in the Los Angeles area again. It is that good.

Service is a 5 and the food is about 3 stars. Get the tempura, but skip the sashimi, chirashi, and katsu (pork). The tempura is perfectly battered and fried. The salmon sashimi is fine, but the tuna is not the freshest. The katsu was tough. Service is friendly and very welcoming because its family owned and run. Dont expect quick, but enjoy the old school service. Seating is limited, three booths and counter with five stools. So plan accordingly.

My wife and I ate here for the first time tonight. We both ordered combos. I had the salmon with tempura, and my wife had the tonkatsu with tempura. We ordered Gyoza for an appetizer. Everything was wonderful, and the portions were very generous. Its like eating at a small family restaurant in Japan. I highly recommend the tempura. The neighborhood is not great, but the clientele in the restaurant were obviously from other parts of town.

The food is authentic & I enjoy having lunch when I get the chance. Its a quaint 3 table 5 stool eatery that has remained frozen in time/ reminder of Boyle Heights past. This is my go to place when Im craving tonkatsu. I wish I could only deduct 1/2 star because when its busy the kitchen is slow to get the lunch orders out. Its also a 1 minute walk from the Metro Gold Line.

Old school home style Japanese in Boyle Heights. This spot is a holdout from when Boyle Heights was a Japanese neighborhood the 50s and 60s! The tempura is fresh and crispy, and the pork katsu is the bomb. The udon noodles are great as well. A nice change of pace if you want something other than Mexican food in the neighborhood. I love it here!

ここボイルハイツは日本人街だった場所。 いまでも、昭和の面影を残して営業中。 しかも、ここ美味しいんですよ。 本物の日本食が味わえます。 ぜひぜひ行ってみてください。

An absolute gem in Boyle Heights! This remote and homely restaurant serves authentic Japanese food. The menu is moderately cheap compared to other places with mains costing 11 - 14 dollars on average. Would highly recommend the Gyoza for starters and the Unagi (grilled eel with sweet soy sauce)! The green tea is a must here!

Never got to try their food. First night we were told they were closed but there was still 30 minutes until their posted closing time. Second time, we paid for parking, then we were told they were full. We said we didnt mind waiting, the lady says but we already have 2 waiting. We wont be going back.

My first taste of Japanese food was here back in 1967. Boyle Heights has changed a bunch since then but Otomisan still in their small place serves up wonderful food. They have only three tables and also a small bar area which all adds up to a terrific place to eat and enjoy your meal.

This is an authentic, wonderful, tiny Japanese restaurant that seems like it was transported from a small town in Japan. Terrific green tea, miso soup, seafood tempura and salmon sushi. Oishi katta desu! I plan to return often, starting this evening.

I enjoyed my experience here. The lady who runs the front half of the restaurant was very friendly and funny. The food was enjoyable... But the environment and general experience made this a memorable place Im glad I stopped by while I was in LA.

Family run Japanese restaurant for three generations. It is one of the few remnants of the once vibrant Japanese American community of East LA which is now predominantly Mexican. Food is good and taste is right. Good and attentive service.

This restaurant reminds of the delicious neighborhood restaurants where I lived in Japan. Always friendly service, amazing sushi, tasty tempura, oishii miso, and their own blend of green tea that swiftly takes me happily back to Japan

If you like a hole in the wall dive eatery, this is the place. Great food, great service, but if you are pretentious and need to be showered with bullshit to feel better about yourself, skip this place cause this is not for you.

Tiny tiny restaurant with a lot of charm. The menu is old-school Japanese food and was well done. They have a tiny kitchen so it takes a really long time to get your food. Dont come here if youre in a rush.

Best authentic Japanese food in ELA ! Family owned and run by Japanese couple. Great Tempura and Sukiyaki. Quaint, only three booths and a counter that seats about 5.
