My lovely lil sis suggested this place for my birthday dinner. our conversation sorta went like this sis: Theres a cool shabu shabu place you might like. Maybe we can go there for your birthday? me: sure, lets go sis: I had their red velvet fondue for dessert me: WHAT :D ?! sis: Yea, I had red velvet fondue because they ran out of green tea fondue. me: !!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GO! Because they dont take reservations, I went with a small group (my siblings, JR C. and my brothers gf) and met up with my friends at a bar (sassafras) afterwards. We showed up after 8pm and waited a bit to be seated. My sibs and I got: - sukiyaki: sweet broth for cooking meat and veggies and a side of egg to dip them in. My brother got the samurai size and the rest ordered the geisha. The broth was great and I def recommend sukiyaki over shabu shabu. JR got: - shabu shabu: not sure what kind of broth he got but I think its just water... and two dipping sauces. He preferred the sukiyaki so he ended up dipping some of his meat and veggie into my broth lol If you love it spicy: You need to ask for this. It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. It has a really good spicy kick, I recommend it if you love spicy food :) They give you few drops in your sauce depending on how spicy you want it. GREEN TEA FONDUE: Was verrrry sweet. It tasted like a combination of white chocolate and matcha. We got a platter with fruit, cakes, marshmallows, rice crispies and brownies. As much as I loved it, Im really glad we shared a small one. PARKING: Theres a parking lot across the street (look for the taco truck). THEY VALIDATE! Make sure to let the guys at the lot know youre going to Yojie so they wont charge you. TIP: - if you are planning on getting green tea fondue, let them know in advance so they can save you some. - if you get the spicy sauce, wash your hands after you eat! You dont want to rub your eyes and realize that you had spicy sauce on your finger. - get sukiyaki not shabu shabu -for the ladies: geisha is a good size - if youre starving: get sumo size - if you checkin on yelp, you get a complimentary bottle of sake i think they have bottomless sake sangrias on sunday

I like meat and I like sweets, so I thought that this shabu-shabu/fondue would be a perfect place to try during a chilly weeknight- especially with a slightly discounted meal during dineLA. I was pretty satisfied with my meal and I enjoyed the ambiance, I just wish the wait wasnt so long. The place is pretty hip with a bar in the center and a few booths around, making it seem big even though there are only 5-10 tables. Even though I had reservations, I had to wait 45 minutes since parties were taking a while and there werent many seats. I did spot unused tables- they couldve easily sat couples at smaller tables for 2 and saved booths for groups of 3+. Being more efficient with space could allow them to seat more people and results in happier customers and more money for them. The waiting room is also next to a door which was being opened constantly, letting in a lot of cold air which did not make my friends happy. Despite the wait the food was great. I ordered off the dineLA menu, getting edamame, a 12 oz sumo portion of meat (sukiyaki style), and upgraded to green tea fondue. The appetizer was covered in spicy miso, which I never experienced before but liked a lot. The shabu-shabu/sukiyaki comes with a fair amount of vegetables, and I had 20+ small pieces of meat which were all good. The sukiyaki broth was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. The service was a little slow but they responded whenever we pressed the button and they provided us with extra sauces, utensils, and broth whenever we asked. The sukiyaki was my favorite part of the meal, and the dessert was a close second. The fondue comes with a sliced banana and a few strawberries (sprinkled with matcha powder). The fondue was very green but perfectly blended, not too powdery and at a good consistency. My friend and I were using our forks to eat the unused chocolate at the end. Overall, it was a good meal- I really enjoyed the sukiyaki, the fondue and the warm sake that came with the yelp check-in. If youre close to LA Live and want to experience shabu-shabu, I would recommend this place! Next time I want to try the red velvet fondue.

The WORST shabu shabu place Ive ever step foot in. If only yelp have 0 star, I would do that. 1. Their check-in yelp ad about the free plum sake wine is fake!!! They said they run out if the sake and it was just lunch time. 2. Their tables are so high and their chairs are so short. And no childs seat. Its totally child unfriendly place. Chairs are so hard to sit. 3. Menu doesnt have restaurant name. What kind of menu is that if theres no branding. And menu is a plank of wood thats so heavy. 4. Meat is not fresh. We were 6 people and all 6 orders , the meat has black spots. Ive never every ate any shabu shabu place that has dark spot meats, unless the meat is unfresh. I do love to cook so I know when a meat is not fresh. I did complain, they changed my plate and still came out with a plate of dark spot meat. Ive uploaded the photos. 4. The ponzu sauce and the sesame sauce was not authentic. They made the sauce themselves and the sesame sauce tastes like cheap peanut butter mix with sesame. They probably wanted to save money. But it just taste so wrong. My coworker got the sukiyaki and wanted to asked for the ponzu sauce and they said they would charge her a dollar for the sauce. And since I got the shabu shabu base, I get unlimited ponzu sauce... does that even make sense to charge for $1 sauce? I just ordered extra sauce and gave it to her for free. 5. This place isnt cheap. $12-$28++ a pot of shabushabu with unfresh meat, and fake cheap home made sauces, with uncomfortable chairs. If you would like good hot pot at that price, go to nearby paper pot shabu in Diamond bar or boiling point in Rowland heights inside diamond plaza.

==-Sunday Bottomless Sake Sangria 11:30a - 5pm, $5 with entree. Combinable with lunch that ends at 2:30pm. Yojie has a prime spot that is near Staples Center and is kitty corner from Dannys Tacos. Its worth a visit, if only for their bottomless sake sangria. They were sweet, but were strong enough to do the trick after a couple glasses. Definitely a worthy substitute of traditional sangrias. -=-Shabu Shabu-=- It comes in different sizes. The lunch portions are the same exact as dinner portions, but just cheaper. I got the largest portion which is 12 ounces of meat. Ended up being way more than I wanted to eat, since when you add the rice, noodles and veggies, you have a ton of food. What really makes Shabu Shabu is the sauce. Im usually not a fan of the ponzu sauce and really didnt use it. The goma on the other hand, I use heavily to warrant multiple refills. I wasnt too crazy about the goma here really. It wasnt flavorful enough, but did the trick at least. I put it in my top 10, but not my top 5. Rice is unlimited too by the way, so you can get your fill from that. The restaurant on a Sunday lunch was covered by 2 waiters: Chris and Anton. Chris did well as our primary waiter, often giving us refills when we needed it. Anton would also cover when Chris wasnt around. As time went, the restaurant started filling up with way more tables than 2 can handle. At the same time as waiting the tables, these guys would also be the ones to mix the drinks. Seems a bit much, but at least we got our general needs met throughout the afternoon that my group of 5 spent there.
