Date of visit: 4/14/2017 We came here for a late lunch before going to run some errands. Since it was Good Friday, my mom wanted fish for lunch, so we opted to go to The Fish Market since it is also close to the shops we had to go to. The parking lot here is pretty small, but there is a line of parking behind the wall, on the hotel side. The spaces are clearly marked on where you can and cannot park - luckily we found an easy spot and walked in. Since we were having a late lunch, there was no wait to be seated. The hostess lead us to one of the booths and our waitress came by to take our drink orders. After she came back with our drinks and some bread, we needed a couple more minutes to look at the menu, but I think it got really busy because she didnt come back for a long time. When we finally placed our orders, she sped off to go help other tables and ignored us. I wanted a refill on my lemonade and a bit more bread, but we didnt get that until one of the managers brought over our food. The manager actually asked if we wanted more bread and refills on our drinks. I saw that our waitress was helping other tables in our area, but didnt respond when we tried waving her down. Im not too happy about the service here, but I really enjoyed the food, so I only knocked it down by 1 star. Plus, the manager was nice, so Im assuming our waitress was just having a bad day. Crab Cakes. The crab cakes here were delicious. I loved the salad that was served with them as it helped balance out the heaviness of the fried crab cakes. My mom, who typically doesnt eat salad, actually liked the salad too. This was a great appetizer for us to split. Clam Chowder. Cam got a bowl of the clam chowder, which he enjoyed as a lunch by itself. I dont like clam chowder on its own, but with the sourdough bread, it was actually really good. Id probably only get a cup if I were to order it since I didnt really like it as much when it started cooling down. Alaskan Halibut. I opted to get one of the fresh catches of the day grilled, which was Alaskan Halibut. It was perfectly cooked and definitely fresh (it didnt smell fishy at all). We got it with the au gratin potatoes and roasted vegetables. The sides were mediocre, but the fish was perfect. If I ever come here again, I might try different sides. The vegetables seemed more steamed than roasted and the potatoes just werent a great fit with the fish. Overall, The Fish Market was a great lunch. I am definitely a fan of the food that we ate and would come back to try other dishes if in the area again.

Love The Fish Market. I dont know if Im just getting older or like to eat the healthier alternative like fish, but I always make an effort to come to The Fish Market either by the harbor or this one here in Del Mar when in San Diego. Actually I havent been here in over 15 years and not much has changed. For some reason though, it feels bigger. (Not quite as big as the one by the Harbor) But for the size, it doesnt lack service here. They always have one person that brings water, one person that brings bread, your server, a manager walking around, and a few staff here and there youll encounter. As for the food, yes I always get something fresh here. I had the mexican yellowtail here the last time along with their cheesy potatoes and roasted veggies. The sourdough bread they bring out prior is always amazing. Its probably my favorite sourdough that I eat in So. Cal. What I also like here is it is child menu friendly. They do offer a fish alterative (cod) in addition to cheesy pasta, shrimp and fries, etc. Its $7.99 and it includes a drink like milk as well as ice cream. Parking here, well....if you come too late, youre SOL. I dont believe in charging customers another $4 for valet when its just 2 feet from the parking lot. Lucky for me, a big party was leaving and the car in front of me was able to park as well. The parking and building is on a triangular corner so parking is kind of limited. There is 2 entrances as well as street parking so if you dont like valets like I do, just roam around for a bit and Im sure youll be able to find parking in no time. Happy Hour here has a large area. Unfortunately it was full when I got there a little before 6pm. Their beer selection here, I would say could use some improvement. There is only Sierra Nevada and Green Flash for craft beer. I had the Sierra Nevada Rye IPA but it came in a bottle, not on draft. You would think being in San Diego, craft beer would be abundant, but not here. But the food here is great, especially the clam chowder that goes well with the sourdough. For a meal that makes you feel good and healthy, this would be my choice. Note: If you subscribe to their email list, they will sell gift cards direct around Christmas time in which they will give you a bonus card when you buy a certain amount.

I arrived at 3:45pm on purpose to order to go food off the lunch menu. The lunch menu ends at 4pm. As I was looking at the menu at the cash register in front of the manager it turned 4pm. Thats how long I had to stand in line. He snapped at me saying I could only order off the dinner menu after I got there in time before 4pm. Im pregnant and the shrimp poor boy sandwhichs are literally the only thing I can eat and not throw up at the moment. The dinner menu doesnt serve sandwhiches. He basically looked at me with a son of a bitchy face and like sorry girl. Until today I literally have eaten here everyday for dinner for the last 7 months because thats all I can keep down while pregnant. Looks like I wont be eating here anymore. Im switching to another seafood restaurant down the street. Bad customer service is not something I want to deal with.

Went last night (5/15/2012) before Circ du Solei. Food was good, service was great EXCEPT there was a screaming baby that totally ruined the whole experience. It took 15 minutes of this baby screaming before management came to ask the people to take the baby outside. Then another 5 minutes of screaming before the people finally got that baby outside. I think its awful that people let their children ruin other peoples dates but it took way too long for management to respond. Had this been a first time that this happened at this restaurant it wouldnt have been such a problem but I havent been to this restaurant for 6 to 8 years because the last time I went THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. Do yourself a favor and find another fish restaurant to go to. Perhaps one that cares about their customers.

Fish Market Del Mar is my go-to place for dependably satisfying Ahi ("prime rib of the sea," as I like to call it). :) The environs offer a lively atmosphere surrounded by a classic wood-and-brass motif. Routine standouts are their Alaskan halibut and Ahi entrees - and dont miss the au gratin potatoes and cherry tomatoes for sides. The Cioppino is simply delectable. For excellent starters, try the raw oysters on the half shell or tuck into the fried calamari (served with both marinara and chili sauce). The complimentary, hot-from-the-oven, sourdough bread serves as the proverbial "icing on the cake." Nothing disappointing here - love it all! (Dine late for lunch or early for dinner to enjoy the easiest parking.)
