Ehhh...nothing to rave about. I came here expecting to shove a spoonful of delicious ramen to fulfill my craving but instead, I was sadly disappointed about my experience, the food itself and still left hungry afterwards because I couldnt finish my food. Read on. After reading a couple of reviews, I ordered their so-called special pumpkin ramen and my boyfriend ordered their shio ramen. Both broths tasted super salty, the pork came out too rubbery for my taste and too pricey for crappy tasting ramen. I really wanted to like this place. Seriously? I would rather spare myself the trouble and have eaten at Santouka which was far more better than eating here. Sorry folks, but I wasnt happy. I thought this place would have great tasting ramen but everything about it was not satisfying to my taste at all. Docked a star because they kept messing up other peoples orders and giving the wrong bill to neighboring customers who were there before us. So sad, because a family next to my table made three complaints about their food and got the wrong bill. Would I come back? Not I.

What happened to these guys? They used to be so good, and now everything is tasteless. I was a big fan of their ramen and toro cha-shu over rice. I dont think i have ever had a soup stock more bland than the Shio flavor. Two stars for the willingness to at least taking it back and giving me the Halu ramen. Turned out that wasnt any good either. It was like ramen in boiled water with some salt added. Does the chef take a quick taste of their food before they serve it? Oh and the rice. It used to be sooo good, full of flavor and texture, and the rice was just the right chewiness. What i had today was mush, with some pork thrown on top. None of the sauce from the pork made it to the rice. This place is not cheap either. They now take credit cards, when they used to take cash only. I suspect theres been a change in ownership. Otherwise i cannot explain the precipitous drop in quality. Dont go here.

3.5 stars I started with the non fried croquettes. It was a bit soft since it was literally just mash potatoes with some panko (bread crumbs). I dont think its worth the $7.20, but it was an interesting appetizer. I decided to order the Halu ramen with whole wheat noodles. I thought it would be a novelty to try whole wheat noodles, but they turned out quite flavorless. The noodles dont seem to absorb the broth very well. The broth also turned out to be too oily for me. The bowl only came with 1 piece of chashu although it was quite a tasty one. The ramen comes in small, medium, large, and extra large. I believe medium is quite sufficient for lunch, but if you are really starving then large is doable. I think I would come back here to try out their other ramens since all the ingredients were really fresh. The Halu ramen just didnt hit the right spot.

Im not a ramen expert, or Japanese, or from Japan, but I was told this place serves traditional ramen, and was supposed to be better than Kahoo. Well...I ordered a large Halu, and it came really greasy (well, I should of expected it from the previous reviews), and way too salty. Even the menma was too salty (Im assuming from soaking in the soup). The only redeeming part of the ramen soup was the one slice of pork--it was actually really good--that they put in there. Id say Kahoo is a LOT better just based on the fact that Halus Halu ramen, aka their house special, sucked. If that ramen is supposed to represent what "traditional" ramen tastes like, then Im hugely disappointed.

Halu classic with wheat noodles was excellent - noodles were all dente. Service was quick. The soup was thick, oily, and flavorful, but unfortunately, at these prices, they really should include an egg 半熟玉子. The Tan Tan Men 担々麺 was ok, not great. The ground pork was good, but the soup should be thicker with more sesame and its shade should be closer to orange, rather than dark like soy sauce. It was also weird having Tan Tan Men without an egg (extra $2). Given that the noodles themselves are probably the best feature, Halu classic or tsukemen つけ麺 are the best bets here. If you like harder noodles, an extra buck for the wheat noodles is worth it.

This place is probably the best ramen in San Jose and one of the best ramen in all of California. The chef brings a deep but elegant flavor to their ramen. Its not overpowering but you can tell he worked on the broth for many many hours or even days to get it just right. The chef is also very creative, and I always look forward to his seasonal ramen specialties. Some of the seasonal ramen dishes will seriously blow your mind because its so different and yet so delicious! This place is worth multiple visits to get the full appreciation for their ramen mastery.

Ive only eaten here twice, and both experiences were very different from each other. First time, the waiter was very kind and helped me find an item that fit my dietary needs. Had a lot of fun. Second time I came, I felt ignored and they didnt tell me that there was pork broth in the soup(I cannot eat pork). Im guessing that their service is better on weekend, since I lucked out the first time on a Saturday. They are pretty slow with bringing your order to the table, but the ramen is satisfying. Pricing is medium. Its good because it is very local and convenient.

The last time I was here, I got a super snappy server. Even his coworker had to apologize for his attitude. Minus stars for that. JERK -__- The ramen is good. The broth is heavier than other places around the area, with bits of saturated fat floating on the surface of the broth. But it is very flavorful. The noodles are delicious if you pick the right combination for your taste buds. My go-to ramen is the tan tan ramen with kurobuta pork. Spicy fans, this will not fail you. Be wary of service and the wait time. Otherwise, its an enjoyable experience.

Best ramen in San Jose. Id come here everyday if I could because the food is outstanding. Fresh and very tasty, I usually get the Halu or Shoyu ramen. This is definitely a place to try out if youre in the mood for noodle soup. They also have a good selection of appeitizers and I recommend getting the Ban Ban Ji (cucumber and chicken with a sesame dressing). If you go to their website you can print out a member card and recieve stamps for each order that will earn you free toppings. I love HALU RAMEN!

The restaurant is in a strip mall plaza with plenty of parking. My fiance and I went for lunch. Seating is on a first-come-first serve basis and when its busy, you add your name to the waiting list. I ordered their pumpkin ramen special and my fiance the large original. The broth flavor, broth temperature, char siu, and noodles were great but toppings were minimal almost bare. We each only got one piece of char siu. For the price we paid, the bowls could have been more substantial.

Ramen Halu has tsukemen ramen now, which has me excited and wanting to come back more often. The regular ramen here in general is good, but nothing special to write home about. Theres hardly a wait at this place though and the service is also good, so I come here if Im looking for a quick ramen fix and dont want to deal with long Orenchi wait times. The tsukemen ramen addition to their menu is absolutely going to have me back for more, and soon!
