Ive NEVER been so insulted when walking into a business establishment. If you are "Of Color" or identify as African American, or have any respect for equality I would NOT give this establishment my business. Long story short - Mothers day 5/14/17, I walked into the restaurant with a Caucasian male who was entering at the same time I was. He was kind and held the door and he proceeded to the counter were there were 2 women placing an order. I stood behind him and immediately a older aged Indian guy helping behind the counter stopped assisting the women who were ordering and greeted the Caucasian male and asked him if he was here for a pick up, the gentleman was quickly helped and received his order which was ready. I then stood were the Caucasian male stood hoping to be helped,.... The middle aged Indian worker then looked me up and down and continued to do small task around the restaurant. He nor another older indian women acknowledged my presence, even though they kept staring. They didnt ask if I was there for a pick up, which I was. They didnt even ask if I was ready to order. It was literally a blatant disregard of my existence. But why? Because Im a women of color? I just walked out. Ive never experienced a business establishment that conducts itself like that. It felt so prejudice. I literally witnessed a business jump to help someone white and when someone of color is RIGHT behind them in need of the same assistance, it was handled completely different. It wasnt a busy moment, I was clearly visible and clearly picking up food due to my Uber Bag. It was so bad I cried. If I could report them to the BBB I would! Spend your money at an establishment that has morals and grounded ethics! Plenty of Indian restaurants who can provide positive customer service.

Take out review: This review is specifically geared towards the food that I order for takeout. One of the best things I do at the Jewel of India restaurant his phone ahead order a meal and go pick it up. That allows me to be in and out in less than 5 minutes. I can take my mom home and enjoy it in the comfort of my own dining room. I typically like to order the butter chicken with white rice and naan. I will say that if I dont specify the level of spiciness in the dish they will typically make it pretty hot. While I dont mind spicy food, sometimes food thats too spicy can kind of ruin the meal. This is definitely a no-frills restaurant. If you decide to dine in, I would say the service is fairly slow. And from my experience I rarely see the restaurant as being very crowded for dine-in visitors. There are always customers picking up food or ordering food to go, rarely do they dine in. Part of that might have to do with the location. Its located in a shopping center on the corner of Alum Rock and Capitol Expressway. There is a pool hall next door that sometimes has some shady looking characters hanging around outside. It is also difficult to find parking sometimes.

I saw the two 5-star reviews and have to say that this is not a 5-star Indian restaurant. I ordered Chicken Saag and Rogan Josh which are two of my favorite Indian dishes. For $8 a plate (to go) it came with rice or naan, which was cool. The chicken saag was weak and goopy, almost like it was pre-made from a packet. Ive eaten at Indian places where the meat is super tender and just melts in your mouth, and neither the lamb nor the chicken was as such. It didnt leave me wanting more, although the two dishes barely filled our stomaches (my girlfriend and I). If I had to have Indian I guess I might come back but Id rather find a better place that leaves me wanting more, no matter how stuffed I am. Overall okay.

Not really willing to given out reward points for five star and it was a fake , the Indian woman working there kept saying come back later and will add the points. I went there three times to see if she is saying the truth. First time, I purchased food from the kitchen. Second time, I just purchased a dessert. She said I have to purchase the kitchen food, ( not dessert)to the original she missed out to put on fivestar app points. The third time, I purchased kitchen food she said next time I will add back altogether. There is no next time because no respect to customer. The food taste from kitchen is less than average. The dessert is okay though.

Absolutely delicious.I got the special of the day - the last serving in fact - a fishermans stew. It had all of my favorite things: calamari, shrimp and fish in a delicious, spicy, creamy coconut? curry sauce. All plates are served with a banana leaf on top which is a nice touch.Rice was fluffy and light. My boyfriend had the special lamb burrito which was huge and well seasoned. Side sauces were meh, but Im not sure what was supposed to go on what. All service people were super friendly.I asked for the fishermans stew recipe.Cashier laughed but I was mostly serious it was that good. One of the best curries Ive ever had.

This is THE place for all Indian special stuff......we have been going to Jewel Of India for the last 12+ years, and have never been disappointed. They catered to our family functions, and they are awesome. Great staff, who are always very nice, and helpful. We always get samosas from here, at least 5-6 times a year if not more. Last month, I took samosas to my school, and they were so popular that more than 30 samosas were gone within an hour! I congratulate them on their great service and commitment to the community!

Horrible experience. Had ordered the food through UberEATS. The paneer wrap was not wrapped correctly and all the stuffing fell out. No chutneys provided for the wrap which is usually provided by other restaurants by default. The malai kofta was bland in taste and the koftas were hard. The garlic naan and regular naan were dry... The only good thing part of the order was the plain rice. Glad they did not screw up the most simple dish. Overall a horrible experience. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE..

Dont eat here. I ordered goat curry. It was not fresh at all. Alots of fat on the goat meat and gravy was old. Saag paneer was so salty and there was not enough paneer in the saag, just about 5 pieces.I think they are selling the leftover buffet food. I also ordered two garlic nans. No garlic on nans. What the heck. They just put some kind of yellow color & lil bit cilantro on the nans. What the hell, I mean who does that. I wasted my money at this place. Dont eat here

I ordered tandoori chicken. They served me oven grilled chicken without salt like boiled chicken. I told them about it and they said that they made a mistake and they give me another chicken tandoori with lots of chilly in their. I threw chicken on the counter. The lady was so rude and illiterate also. She put more chilly in chicken to show their revenge. I will not go there again. They deserve minus five stars.

Service a bit slow and not attentive for 3 pm. So far the mixed Pakora is perfect for my taste. Sure wish the waitress would get me a Kingfisher. Will see how the Saag Paneer and Lamb dish she recommend works out. Oh here she comes? Oh wait she said thats her lunch and proceeded to have lunch. Wait, ok here we go. Wow. All a delight. Dont miss this one. Yum baby!
