Food and the price is decent here but the service is lacking. When we went during the lunch time, we were seated but received no menus or explanations about their buffet, which we knew they offered. We also knew that they had a la cart menu as well but not only did they assume that we were having the buffet but also said nothing. They just let their customer sit there waiting. They didnt even come check on us at all so we got up and served ourselves the buffet food. When we were seated, we asked for the outside seat but there were several problems with that as well. First, there were no napkins, S&P or silverware and we had to ask for them. But when they brought them, there were no S&P and since they didnt come back to check on us or didnt get our cues, we had to steal them from other table. Their maintenance is horrible as well. The vegetation there is overgrown and filthy. The restaurant leave the broken pots and dead plants lying in their flowerbed. When you sit, the tree/bushes will poke your head and back. Spider webs everywhere including on those bushes, lamps and ceiling right above your food. Lastly, there were numerous places where the paint is peeling off and loosely hanging right above your head. I was constantly worried that they might come right down into my food. Food was still decent so if I ever go back there, Ill just help myself and wont bother with the waiters.

Ambrosia the name itself does not deliver the quality. been visiting this place since 2013 was OK for the price tag on the menu. Since January 2015 visited 3 times it was total waste of money. Ordered Shahi Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masssala and butter chicken, also garlic naan bread. One of the occasion Butter Chicken dish had more gravy and left over shreds of chicken pieces were found, All the dishes the gravy tasted the same with no difference in texture, taste or consistency of the dish. Chicken is over cooked, chewy and dry. Paneer on other hand was hard and dry. Naan bread was hard to tear in to two piece, when put in the mouth it felt like chewy rubbery as if one is chewing a piece of leather. Past 3 times this place failed to deliver the quality Indian food to the public ( As tourist is not aware of the quality standard). I would recommend drive on highway 1 north to Santa Cruz where there are about 4 or 5 Indian restaurants to choose from rather wasting the hard earn money in Monterey.or choose any other restaurant.

When I first moved to Monterey, my friends introduced me to Clay Oven. I HATED it. It was dirty and the food was nasty. because Clay Oven was a nasty place to go to, I had a very hard time being convinced to eat at Ambrosia India Bistro for the first time. BUT, After the first time eating at Ambrosia, I couldnt get enough of the food. They even have a variety of delicious vegetarian foods. From 11:30am to 2:30pm they serve as buffet. You can eat as much as you want with never ending nan-Bread for less than $10. it is a great place to go to have great food all by yourself or with friends and family. From 5:00PM to 10:00PM they dont serve as Buffet. My husband and I went to Ambosia for dinner 12/19/2007, we ordered a lot of food and it cost us $40 including the tip. So of course I would recommend you going for Lunch. It is cheaper and it is a Buffet.

Improved! Ambrosia has improved a lot this last year. They now have a bar that serves cocktails. New lighting and decor makes it much nicer unside and they cleaned up the patio. Looks much better. We had a nice dinner next to the fountain. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The food was just rather so so. We ordered naan bread that used to taste better. You could tell it was not cooked right as the dough just was not that flavorful. But it was good enough we would order it again. It was a big No on the butter chicken. The sauce was too acidic and no creamy flavor. The safron rice was dry but had a nice flavor. The best thing we got was the Tandoori Chicken. Wonderful if a tad bit dry. The portions are generous and served hot. All in all we would go again. : )

This place would generally be a 5-Star place food-wise, except it was unfortunate that it met me as I have had a 5-star Indian Bistro food so I just couldnt give this place the same rating. The food here is great, better than the majority of Indian restaurants at the same standard. But I will say it is a little tad-bit expensive. 1 chai, 1 Spinach Mango salad, 1 Mulligatwany soup, 1 Lamb Lorna, 1 butter chicken, and 1 saffron rice = $50 before tip. Not too bad, a little more than my usual $12-20/person for Indian, with the exception of my favorite Indian Bistro in Boston, MA - Tamarind Bay. See my review for this restaurant.

Dont even go there! I mean seriously, highly overpriced and horrible food; too greasy and lacking taste. Customer service is horrible. No one ever came to refill the drinks until right before we were about to leave. Costed $200 for six people and we didnt even order anything special, just one plate of shrimp biryani each and two sides of shrimp kadahi (not per person, its just two sides) and usual soft drinks. It was an outrageous ~$35 per person which might have been tolerable if the food was good. It was so greasy that you can almost swim in it. So if you enjoy getting ripped off and have horrible food, be their guest!

Sunday buffet Lunch at Ambrosio had around 4 vegetarian options , one-eyed beans stew, mixed veggies stew, mushroom masala, basmati rice, salad, raw veggies, fruits, garbanzo beans curry. For 15$/person it was pretty reasonable. Although I would like more options like a paneer dish, pulao/fried rice. There was only 1 sweet dish, would have enjoyed if they had more sweet options. Dinner at Ambrosio had a lot more options. Vegan parathas, soups, salads, vegetarian and non vegetarian starters, rice varieties and much more. The ambience is pretty good. Would definitely qualify as a decent place to dine at Monterey

This restaurant is not completely vegan or vegetarian, but they have a large selection of both. They have an entire separate vegan menu, as well as several vegan options on the standard menu (not many vegan options in their buffet, however). There was a bit of a language barrier, but that didnt cause much trouble, because we just pointed to the menu and told the waiter what food wed like. It seems like the serving sizes are big enough to be split among 2-4 people. All our food was DELICIOUS and seriously hit the spot on a nice cloudy day.

I found the veggie korma and saag paneer to be decent but nothing Id go out of my way to have again. The former was bland, the latter tasted strongly of anise. Other people with me looked it, for what its worth, and the atmosphere was good. They didnt want to try making a cocktail that wasnt on their drinks menu, and they were aggressive in getting our table cleared and check delivered well before everyone was done eating. I get that it was because they were full and needed to flip tables, but it was a bit much.
