Theres not a lot of great cuisine in this part of San Jose, so Peacock Indian Cafe is a lifeline for the work lunch! I am half Indian and so I was extremely happy to find a place in the US that actually makes a decent chapati (try it instead of naan sometime, especially if you like to eat with your hands as is traditional). Also, the butter chicken is the best Ive had in the Bay Area! Honestly, I havent tried anything else there, except the chai tea which is good but comes in laughable small glasses. Some of the other reviewers have complained that the service is unfriendly, but if you become a regular, then they will go way out of their way for you. This is not a sit-down place, but the owner (Bob) makes is a point to set a table for us now when we call an order in ahead of time. Eat here soon!

There are several Peacock restaurants in the bay area, ranging from tiny cafes to fancy sit-down restaurants. This is one of the former. Stashed away in a tiny strip mall on the eastern edge of San Jose, you would not expect much of this restaurant from the outside (or even from the inside) but it is really a gem for takeout. While the quality has varied on a couple of our visits, Id say better than 95% of the time weve gotten excellent food, and the prices are quite reasonable. The fried okra is exceptional -- a "dry" vegetable dish (no sauce or gravy) but well-spiced and tasty. We also really like their tadka dal and chicken dum biriyani (not a big fan of their other biriyanis, but the dum-style is really great). They have some other good dishes, but these are the real standouts for us.

Like most other famous Indian restaurants, this place has extremely unhelpful and unfriendly people taking your order. The first time I went there I asked for chicken dum biriyani and the guy behind the desk goes "finished". Then I asked for the mutton biriyani and again goes "finished". He didnt even offer other options that were still available or appologize for the fact that they were sold out long before closing ! Anyway the next time I called ahead and went for pick up. I asked this other guy behind the desk if he could give me a side of onions with my food and he goes "we dont serve onions with biriyani and appetizers". And to top it all off, the biriyani is pretty average and cant hold up against bawarchis biriyani or even paradises Biriyani.

When they first opened their business I was really excited to have athentic East Indian food, and for a brief time that was how their food tasted. Since then the food is based on high profit and fast preparation. The onions used to be pan fried for chicken biriyanni but now they just throw raw onions on top of what they call chicken biriyanni. Also 80% percent of their busjness is catering for weddings and special events, they could care less about walk-in traffic. The Peacock Resturant on Kiely and El Camineo is really much better run and the food is better prepared. Until they get back to their old ways of cooking I doubt anything has changed in my opinion.

After hearing about their "best ever briyani" I decided to finally try it. I ordered the chicken briyani, a cauliflower dish, and some garlic naan. The briyani was good enough but nothing really special. Im no means an expert on briyani but the dish had too much clumps of heavy spices that was too pungent for me. The cauliflower dish was okay but a bit light on substance. If youre not used to super "authentic" (good or bad depending on your taste) setting, you may be somewhat intimidated since the place appears to have mostly Indian/Pakistani clientele.

This restaurant is very near to our home we got NAAN for our daughters birthday party. Naan was like 0ld one or cooked by some inexperienced cook. We putted so much effort in making the curry and other stuff but NAAN screwed the complete birthday party experience. I will never ever go to this restaurant and will never recommend to our friends or in our community. Ankush Jain

Really like the quality of the food they serve. Being a vegetarian, the options are limited, but their Paneer Tikka Kababs - appetizer is the best in the Bay Area. The chef here has PTK perfected, the other Peacock Cafes dont even come close. , so dont judge this location because of your experience at their other locations.

My friends liked the chicken biryani and chilli chicken but being a vegetarian, Im very disappointed about the veg biryani. We frequently get to-gos from here. Sometimes biryanis are excellent but other times, they are very bland without any taste. We dont even feel like we are eating biryani. However the quantity is good.

Super bad and horrible experience with front desk person, He is arrogant and dont care like person. I think you guys are making too much money and keeping person like this in frontdesk, oneday you will suffer so much that and would really realise your mistake of keeping person like this and spoil your business.

Such legit Mutton Biryani! One portion was good enough for two people, and the level of spice was just perfect. This is probably the only place Ive gotten Indian food at in the US and loved it 100%. Wish wed gotten there earlier so that I could have gotten the Chicken Biryani, which Im told is quite brilliant.

This place is not hygenic at all. I found hair in the biryani. It is disgusting. I am sure if I take it up with the right authorities they will have this place inspected and probably closed. It really lacks hygiene. Please avoid this place. I am going to avoid all peacock restaurants in Bay Area

Been going there for many years. Authentic food. Small place but quality of food makes up for it. Biryanis are darn good. Highly recommend it if you only care about authentic food and not so much into ambience. I dont understand some bad reviews below. I have always enjoyed my time here.

Apart from Biryani, theres nothing special that I would recommend. Their samosas and pakoras werent that great as compared to other desi restaurants. The good thing is that they serve Halal chicken.

Great service. Great food. Slyvano, the manager is very nice. My weekend lunch and dinner is from Peacock. Pretty much always!

The food is great but the atmosphere is muggy and the food is a little too spicy for my taste. Otherwise, the food is good.

Relatively decent place to get food from. May not be ideal to sit and eat unless you are in a rush and cant take food home.
