We had dinner at Emperor of India last night. It was in the 90s and we dont have air conditioning. We found "deals on demand" Groupon for the restaurant. Its located very close to us, so we gave it a try. The place was deserted and I dont know why. The food was awesome! I saw from the reviews that the restaurant is packed at lunch. Perhaps thats why the Groupon? to develop some evening trade: The staff very helpful in making suggestions on what to eat. I had the Emperor of India special, half order. Its a mixed grill Tandoor style. YUM! I love Tandoor spiciness, which this had, but I could still taste the flavor of the meat through the spice. Hubby had the chicken curry and asked for the spicy version. I sampled some over basmati rice. The chicken was tender, and the sauce, while spicier than I would order for myself was delicious. You could taste multiple layers of flavor, not just heat. We drank Indian beer with dinner. Even with the alcohol, our dinner was about $20/person before the Groupon. Unless Im going to "fast food" or a diner, thats about what I expect to pay for dinner out. Will we go there again? Oh yes!

I havent tried the lunch buffet, but I looked up the thali online and it said 17$ for chicken thali! That was pretty expensive, but I decided I will have it. When I went thr I saw that the price is up by 3$. Never had such an expensive thali ever! It was definitely NOT worth the extravagant price. Service was good, the music playing in the background terrible (weird selection of never-ever-heard-before hindi songs)! Maybe I should try the lunch buffet once, seems affordable.. (hope they dont put a lot of soda in the buffet food!) I always order mango lassi in indian restaurants, the one here looked and tasted extremely artificial and was not thick as lassi, more like a Dukes Mangola :).. the best mango lassi I have had so far in San Jose is at Tandoori Oven near the Santa Clara Light Rail station...

The food here is pretty tasty, yes, but this place is BO-ring. Each time I stop by, its always empty, lunch or dinner. It was crowded one time, 5 years ago, when I stopped by with a relative, but nowadays, its always empty. And they take a long time to make any order whether its biryani or butter chicken, you will be waiting at least 15 minutes if not longer. The problem is other places are way faster but I have to say the food is tastier here.

Vegetarians please be a bit careful. We asked for "Veg Biryani" and realized that they gave us Chicken Biryani. When I called them back they said that they were sorry and that this mistake was because they were "busy". Thats such a lame excuse . I stay very close to this place and used to get food quite often from here but will never get my food from this place again. They lost a regular customer. I would have given -ve stars if I could.

The best thing about this restaurant is the buffet. Its there right in front of you. You dont have to wait for ever for you food, like my wife and I did during the dinner time. It was just us and one other couple. Why so damn long?! 30 minutes?! REALLY!!! Not only that but the waitress was rude as hell. So I suggest to go during lunch.

They have a great lunch buffet at a reasonable price. The chicken Marsala is not available on the buffet but I order it from the dinner menu because it is the best I have ever had. The service is great and the employees are nice. I highly recommend this place.

We have been looking for a good Indian restaurant in South San Jose for years and finally found a jewel. I enjoyed the Chicken Sag and my husband the Chicken Korma (not on the menu but available by request). The service was good and the decor pleasing.

Buffet is better than ala carte. We went late during weekdays and buffet is almost over and the service was no so great. We have to ask multiple times to refill even though there are 5+ people in the restaurant. 4 stars for previous good experience

Wonderful food, wonderful spices and taste creations in their lunch buffet. The only thing that could be better is a bit of labeling, or maybe i could learn how to read the Indian labels and know what is in the delicious dishes. (probably not)

All the curries taste the same,,,whether its Paneer or chicken...doesnt really make a difference. Also pls ensure that you are extra vigilant when you pay the money...they always charge extra on your credit cards....

I love their butter chicken and really enjoyed their Naan. The great thing is that you can make the food as spicy as you want it. The spices they put really bring out the flavor of the food. Overall good.

Food is very delicious. Always like Cauliflower Manchurian, they make it spicy. This is the place where we found starter and main course both tastier then all other restaurants in Bay area.

Honestly, this was my first time ordering Indian food. I cannot say if it was good or bad, but the service was good and it was yummy. But have no reference so I have to give 3 stars

Great all you can eat buffet. Skip breakfast before when you plan to have lunch there. Totally worth it. Some dish are better than what you would get in an "à la carte" place
