Food was very good, though I might have liked to add a bit of salt to the ramen I got. The gyoza is made in-house and is delicious. Beer/wine/sake prices a little bit higher than others around. One of the waitresses was a bit abrupt with us (and this was before the rush) but the other was awesome. The chicken teriyaki bento (BTW, there is no description of what else comes in the bento: you get salad with ginger dressing [super yum!], potato salad, rice, and miso soup) rang up at $7.95 though its listed as $9.95 on the menu. Thats not a complaint! We came in right around 5pm on a Saturday and if they had any happy hour deals going on, they kept them a secret. Theres soy sauce and a chilli seasoning powder on the table for use and we werent charged any extra for a small side of teriyaki sauce (theres no such thing as too much teriyaki for my mother). House cold sake was good, $7, enough for 2 people (or 1 me!). Ill definitely come back.

I am relatively new to the world of Ramen. Ramen Yamadaya was pretty solid. I went with the Specialty Ramen with Kakuni pork. For the base I chose Tonkotsu Kotteri which is described as the rich and fatty broth with black garlic oil. I really enjoyed the broth, it was light and had a really delicate flavor that was not over powering. The noodles were good, but they really reminded me of the package ramen you get for 15 cents in the grocery store. I feel like they were on the verge of being under cooked. As I mentioned I am fairly new to ramen, and the other ramen I have had used soba noodles. I am looking forward to learning more and trying the different types. The staff we friendly. Service was very quick and it is very affordable. Three of us ate for under $40. I will absolutely try Ramen Yamadaya again.

Among many ramen noodle restaurants, this place is not the best. The service staff was not quite together - we had to wait at the door even though there were many empty tables. No server acknowledged our existence for sometime. The interior decoration was not very impressive. Once we were at a table, a server came to move us to another table to accommodate a larger group of customers - not a big deal but it was a bit strange to carry our own water glasses to another table. There were personal bags, coats, and stuff at a corner of the counter - appeared to be the staffs and looked cluttered. We ordered spicy noodles - the soup was good. Noodles tasted a bit starchy. Additional spinach was not worth what we had to pay. Some alcoholic beverages, craft beer and sake, were very expensive.

Ramen Yamadaya is named after the owner(I asked out of curiousity). The name is catchy and the place looked nice so I walked in from strolling on Broadway in downtown San Diego. I was immediately seated with excellent service. The Ikura rice bowl was very good, however, there could have been more of the tasty Ikura salmon eggs I like so much. The entree, Tonkatsu with chicken breast, was also very tasty with thick hearty broth and a nice amount of Ramen noodles. I subtract a star for lack of atmosphere and the place was very hot, needing some aircon. There also should have been more Ikura in the bowl. Overall, though, this is a solid choice for Ramen and at under $20 for 2 dishes the prices are reasonable

Came during lunch about a week into their soft opening. Got the Yamadaya Ramen with the Kotteri broth.. Finally a good Ramen place in downtown, the broth was very buttery and flavorful. The service was friendly and fast. The menu is still very limited since its their soft opening menu, Im sure it will be on par with their other locations soon. Will definitely be coming back to get my ramen fix.

I came here a couple weeks ago 3 days after they had opened. The menu was limited, and was only a Soft Opening menu, but the service was fast. The ramen here is great quality, with buttery broth complimented by fatty cuts of pork, fresh untangled noodles with the perfect consistency. Definitely without a doubt the best Ramen shop in downtown, and a contender for best Ramen in San Diego.

ラーメンは言うの及ばず、サイドメニューもきっちり日本のマンマです。一番ビックリしたのは、アメリカでオーダーの復唱をされたことです。初めてそんなことをされて、非常にビビりました。(笑)

This was a big disappointment. I was craving ramen because I havent had it in a while and went here for dinner. First, the place is stuffy and hot. A little uncomfortable. I ordered the ramen yamadaya and the broth had no taste. The pork was good and the noodles were good too but it was bland. I wouldnt come here again.

Had the Ramen and Curry and I loved it. While the part of town its located in was a little more..."worn"...The establishment staff was kind and welcoming. Air conditioning during the summer, the Ramen was FANTASTIC. We were super well attended to. Would definitely go back again sometime.

Do not recommend. Taste did meat my expectation, but they served so lazily. I dont really know what is the big deal between Kotteri-ramen and Shio-ramen but they served them with more than 30 min time gap. You guys have to train your staff otherwise you may lose the game.

My boyfriend and I had the vegan ramen and our friends had two different pork-based ramen dishes. Sadly, none of us were impressed and found the bowls to have very little flavor. We were excited to try it but what a letdown. Two stars for the friendly staff.

Food was very medioka...The server also stole the number of my CC and I got unknown charges on my CC next day. I didnt used this card long time and it was only the place where I gave my CC in somebody hands for last week. Very bad experience!!!!

Great Ramen, very rich and flavorful, but I recently had to wait a long time for the check and then was told the card machine was broken. My date had to go next door to withdraw money, and there was a fee on that machine. It was unideal.

The staff was very friendly and helped me and my entourage to make an informed and delightfully pleasant decision on food and drink options. The sake was provided with options of warm or chilled as well as a wide selection.

This restaurant definitely has good ramen. As many of the previous patrons have said, the staff are a little too eager to deliver the check. Regardless, my meal here was good and, I could see myself going again.

If you happen to take a look at their kitchen, you would probably change your mind of eating here again. Also, the short lady is rude and seems not care about what she does and says. The ramen is mediocre.

I practically drank spicy from my baby bottle and until now, no spicy anything has made me cry. These were tears of joy at finding something truly spicy! Level 3 spicy was to die for yum yum
