This is such a Wonderful place to have lunch or any meal anytime for that matter, its large enough that it can accommodate you somewhere even in large groups, maybe you have a taste for sushi, Ive yet to find better, hope to find something at least comparable here in Seattle. It has its separate sushi area, a large restaurant inside and outside overlooking the ocean, my favorite spot to sit. It also has a bar, a market where you can buy the most fresh fish around and good quality and a restaurant upstairs that is more upscale, I never found the need to go explore that because I loved what they had downstairs and looked forward to going there every time. I ate sushi there so many times I forgot to count, took my kids who loved their childrens menu and when I went into the restaurant I would ALWAYS order the same dish, calamari steak, I would ask them to make it non- breaded just with a little butter right on the grill, with a lot of lemon juice and a side of cole slaw and a little bit of cut up fruit. Theirs is the most delicious calamari steak Ive ever had. So thank you for all the good times and the wonderful memories of some of the best meals and ambiance all put into one. Dont miss this place, even the surroundings rock!!! Here are some of my pictures I took in some of my visits there.

I have been coming specifically to the Sushi Bar at The Fish Market for 18+ years and still find it to be my favorite in San Diego and always recommend it to visitors and locals alike. My good friend was the head concierge at the large Marriott harbor front and he was the first to introduce me to it. Some might call it touristy due to it being adjacent to the USS Midway but when you are right on the water anddock it genuinely feels like just the right place to be. As you would imagine, since they are a fresh fish market/restaurant and named exactly so, the fish is always exceptionally fresh. Although almost always busy, we always manage to get a spot up front at the bar with little hassle or wait. The chefs and staff are all from Japan (which always makes me happy when eating Sushi) and the service is spot on regardless of the fast paced environment. Ive never felt rushed and like to settle in for the experience and environment. The Chefs have continued to import various species of fish specials daily from native Japan and other parts of the globe. I have always taken their recommendations and its great to explore the varied fish options. We have daily flights from JAL to San Diego and you will always find something new on the specials chalk board. Enjoy this fun, iconic, local spot.

Food was extremely average. Portions were small and overpriced. But I can handle that. Most seafood staples have those shortcomings. On the other hand, I cant forgive the poor customer service. It was to the point of being very uncomfortable. We arrived about 45 minutes before closing (we arent from PST time zone so it was dinner time for us). Valet told us to self park because they would be closing soon. The hostess visibly rolled her eyes when they noticed that we wanted to be sat for dinner. The waitress rushed us through ordering and was, for lack of a better word, pushy. She made assumptions about what my daughter would and wouldnt like and spoke down to her when she stated her intentions to try the cioppino. "You know thats a soup, right", she explained in condescending tone. My daughter ordered something else. I felt like I was being demanding when I asked for a water refill. She begrudgingly obliged. I asked if I could order a meal to-go for my girlfriend who couldnt make it. "The kitchen closes right now. I guess if you know what she wants you can put something in". Dont trouble yourself.... Ill get her something from McDonalds. The food is almost as good and, it amazes me to say, the service is better.

The Fish Market is somekind of an experience. Its not ideal, and its something I wont be experiencing again. The service there was what I enjoyed, but the food was too overpriced and not up to a standard I am used to. It is in a prime location, right next to the Midway museum, but it is really not worth it. The prices are too high for the quality and quantity of food served here. We had some shark and tilapia, the former of which is a little bit more of a difficult fish to cook. Any restaurant that has shark as part of their menu should know how to serve it. The fish was overdone and nearly tasteless, with presentation extremely poor. The tilapia was a smidge more flavored, but still not worth the price, as I had to pay a dollar extra over the $20 to get my Tilapia done cajun style - sounds like extortion to me. Alcohol menu is nice, but also overpriced. Its a tourist trap, essentially, I would never imagine locals eating there. TL;DR - Overpriced tourist trap that has zero style in flavor and presentation, based on my experience. Yours might be different.

My husband and I try to go The Fish Market every time we are in San Diego. We love this place!! We dont order full plates of food rather smaller plates of different items. This last trip we ordered our usual, Japanese Hamachi, its so fresh and creamy, an absolute must to order. You cant ever go wrong with their New England clam chowder. We ordered oyster shots which you can have with or without alcohol. If youre game, you can order the shots with vodka or tequila, but make sure to hang out for a while, theyre strong!! The oysters are a little small, but very fresh. The wedge salad is also quite good, the dressing is tasty and not in your face like bleu cheese dressings can be. The only disappointment was the lobster roll, really small, nothing like an east coast version and too pricey for such a little sandwich. Overall, we do enjoy coming here, it has a nice ambiance to it and never too stuffy. We always have excellent service and the wait staff is friendly. Jenna is especially fun, she has a great sense of humor and we love her Boston accent.

In San Diego on business and my wife and I thought wed try the place since it smelled good. First impression when we walked in and were seated is that it was like a cafeteria. Extremely loud and just seemed like a rushed environment. We decided to start with the calamari appetizer and when it was brought out, it was chewy. Ive had better at Oliver Garden. Youd expect better in a coastal city, wouldnt you? I chose the fried shrimp for my main dish and my wife chose the dish that was a mix of seafood with linguine and marina sauce. She said hers was pretty good. The portion size was great and she was unable to finish the dish. My shrimp was extremely dry and overcooked. The cole slaw side was without much taste. Our meal came out to approximately $71 before any tip was added. The waitress was attentive and I dont fault her for the quality of the food. But, I wouldnt go back there again. Not even if the meal were offered free of cost. It just wasnt very good at all.
