Came here for the first time the other day. They open at 7am, or at least thats when they say they open. The morning I came we sat in the parking lot with about 15 other people waiting for the place to open. Seeing all these people waiting to get in got me thinking this place might be really good. Well they finally opened 10 minutes late, the place was freezing inside. Still I hoped it have great for, so I ordered Eggs Benedict with potato pancakes and was not impressed. On top of that the service was terrible. The young guy at the door with a shaved head was the only bright spot of my visit and so he got a few bucks from me. Why you ask, well when I was done eating I got in one to pay the bill. When I got to the front to pay, the cashier took off. I waited, and waited, then a waiter came to the register and opened it up for some reason, closed it and took off. Didnt say anything to me like someone would be with me or that he wasnt allowed to ring me up or anything. Well the young man who was seating customers saw this and told me he was sorry and hed get someone to help me. If it werent for him I"d give this place 2 stars. Even so, I doubt Ill be back.

This place does an incredible amout of business. Its always packed on the weekends and you will need to get on the wait list which is frequently over 20 mins long. The portions are huge and the pancakes are quite tasty. The pancake section has as many as 15 different choices, from potato pancakes to Swedish pancakes. One of their specials, the apple pancake, is more like a large souffle with sugary drizzle topped with apple slices. This could easily feed two people! The standard fair, like eggs and bacon, are done well but generally everything is a-la-carte, so the bill at the end is higher than the usual diner. If you are not counting calories and like the crowds, then the Pancake House may be worth a visit.

This place is pretty average, but the value and atmosphere totally ruin the experience. From the constant crowd outside youd think itd be better, but the wait is long, its as noisy as a school cafeteria, and is packed to the brim with impatient pushy customers. All the pancakes/waffles/crepes are around $8 and the only thing it comes with is butter and syrup. A side of bacon or a "large" glass of milk/juice is $3, and what youd consider small at a regular place. Its ironic that the 6 dollar pancakes cost 7 dollars. The food is varied and decent, but for the price I would hope for more than a big empty plate with a waffle on it. Ive been here twice so far and both times wished my friends had picked some place else.

So the picture of the building does not look anything like the actual restaurant on PCH but service was extremely fast and there were bountiful amounts of food that melted in your mouth. The apple waffles were decadent but all the specialties looked spectacular. Someone in my party inquired about the fresh strawberries they claim to have in season in Jan and they admitted they were frozen. We passed on those and later saw them in front of someone else and were glad we strayed away. All the other plates in the restaurant looked great and made me think about when I could return when I was not even out of the restaurant on my first trip! Definitely something to try even if you are not a big breakfast person!

There are some things that I really miss about Southern California, now that Ive moved to the UK. One of them is The Original Pancake House. Whenever I come back for a visit, it must always include a trip to this restaurant chain. My special favourite is the Apple pancake, a dish for which they are much renowned. In addition to their excellent Apple pancake, they made wicked good omelettes, and if you catch then at the right time of year, fresh strawberries (make sure to have them with the fresh whipped cream). Note that their portions are not for the faint of heart, and leftovers are not uncommon. But these things reheat well, so this isnt a problem.

Hands down the best omelette I have ever had. Ive been to this place several times for pancakes but I never tried their omelettes until now. I had the popular one with ham and veggies. The egg were fluffy and cooked to perfection. It also came with two pancake, which is a bonus for its price. Their Apple pancake is amazing as well. It pretty much tastes like a thin apple pie. Best to share all your dishes. Service was pretty good. Cant complain because they were pretty busy. Once youre done with your meal you could pay up front. Try to show up before the rush hour if you dont want to wait 30-60minutes, especially if you have a large group.

Ive been eating at the ORIGINAL Pancake House for about 40 years. I am never disappointed! The pancakes are some of the best Ive ever had! Add pecans or chocolate chips. REAL whipped cream, fresh fruit, baked omelettes, thick cuts of bacon! Absolutely delicious! Reasonably priced, fast service. ALWAYS, ALWAYS worth the wait. It doesnt matter if you go to OPH in San Diego, Dallas, Chicago or Redondo Beach - if its a weekend or a holiday be prepared to wait to be seated for the deliciousness! Again, its always worth the wait!

Wonderful tasting pancakes! Crepes are exceptionally well made, and prices are just what you pay for. Personally, not one to care about service, but this place has the most amount of rude employers ever! i do not understand how a place with such delicious breakfast items be with such service. The wait is understandable at any busy restaurant, but why would the people come back if they feel unwanted. personally, if they serve this somewhere else, go. Like: Food 9/10 Dislike: Service/ Staff

On a Friday an hour before closing, no wait and not hectic. Clean, nicely decorated. Standard service. Good prices and hefty portions. Was able to order a side of sauteed veggies even though it wasnt on the menu for only 50¢ a veggie. French toast was made well, custardy crisp crust and interior was not overly eggy. They also have honey as a sugar option. Coffee refills came regularly. Bathroom also clean and nice.

Better than a chain pancake house, but be aware: there is no 100% pure maple syrup available, not even for purchase on the side. I had to drive down the street to Trader Joes to get the real stuff, then came back in time to eat. Very crowded with a long wait. For a big family that needs to feed on a budget, this is a great place. For folks that are looking for a delicious breakfast, there are better options.

I come here at least twice a week, the pancakes by far supercedes any pancake IHOP has to offer! Ive eaten IHOP for 30yrs plus, they use to be #1,NOT anymore! Original Pancake the pancakes literally melt in your mouth, and the Applewood bacon soon good and thick, not that cheap thin bacon! There is a wait on weekends, but it goes pretty fast, get there early and your cool!
