Blu jam used to be one of my favorite brunch spots ever since I started studying in LA. BUT NOT ANY MORE~~ I went there on Sep.10 with my girl friends and ordered classic egg benedict, quesadilla as usual, and mediterranean salad for the first time. While having the salad, I found a disgusting green warm in my plate, and called the owner chef. He said he was sorry at first, HOWEVER, kept saying there was nothing he could do since they already washed it three times. Plus, because they are using organic veggies, it could just happen according to him. I just wanted his sincere apology not any other extra service, but he kept saying he wouldnt just let us pay for it. After a while, we were even served a pancake, but who would eat it after finding an insect and losing appetite. He just seemed he ignored us because we are Asians. I even told him I am not satisfied with his attitute and I would report it to the local health department. But he just nodded and didnt seem to care about it. I am still wondering if it doesnt bring any problems in the U.S when a warm or any other insect is found in organic products. It was a yucky experience and eventually I threw up everything I had there. Anyhow, I took a pic of it and will report it asap.

My former co-workers and I met up for a Saturday brunch. We came about noon-ish and had to wait about 30-40 minutes for a table, which wasnt bad because the place is pretty lively. Food: 4 I got the Norwegian Eggs Benedict and thought they were alright. I liked the hollandaise on the eggs, but it didnt wow me like I thought it would. My co-workers like their food though. I did get to try their crispy french toast, and that was AMAZING. It was very crispy and even got a bit addicting. The fresh berries complimented the toast very well. I could go without the yogurt-y dip though. I didnt think it added much to the dish. Service: 3.5 They were busy, so it was really hard to flag down our server. And it took awhile for our food to come out. It was busy, so I understand. Though an update on our food would have been great! Overall: I would recommend the place just for their crispy french toast. Its also a nice place to have a brunch with a group of people or a brunch date with the girls. Next time, I gotta see if they have any mimosas!

Suggested by its name, Blu Jam cafe is one of LAs beloved breakfast and brunch spot. It can get quite crowded because of its popularity so if you can avoid weekends or if you dont mind a nice long wait to really pump up the appetite Id certainly suggest getting in here to enjoy gourmet breakfasts classics that are a sampling of abroad tastes. They visually seduce the palette and match that in taste. I enjoyed the Loxex, which is a scramble with lox, chives, onions, tomatoes and brie cheese. I also tried their renowned crunchy french toast which is classic brioche french toast rolled in crunchy corn flakes topped with fresh fruit and vanilla bean sauce. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water. The extra crunch, reminiscent of cartoons and frosted flakes cereal, add another texture elements and combined with the fruit to balance out the sweetness, it is oh so good. To top it off I had a fresh squeezed grapefruit Mimosa. Every plate they brought out looked so yummy, and I look forward to returning to try some new dishes.

Brunch here is delicious! And people certainly know that, we went on a rainy day when there was almost no one out and we still had to wait an hour to be seated! I love the background of the cafe, it apparently used to be an underground bar that played blues and jazz music, which is why it has its name! Presumably because of its popularity and reputation, the food here is extremely pricey. The omelette and egg sandwich we ordered were amazing! Very generous portions, and very filling. Both were full of yummy toppings and were rich in flavor. I loved it! The potatoes it comes with were an excellent side as well. For better value, Ill probably just keep going to Poppy + Rose in downtown LA, the food here was really good but just so expensive for pretty much the same quality as most other brunch places. Also, random note, the tables were so small, no room for anything. If its cold, you better hope to get the main dining area, because the tables in the room with the waiting area is freezing cold in the winter.

Overall a pretty good experience but some of the food was Luke warm instead of piping hot. The flavor was consistently pleasing. We got the Florence Benedict, crunchy French toast and migas. We also ordered a grapefruit juice which was forgotten The Bennie was sweet and fresh. It came with a sweet ketchup salsa on the side. It accompanied the potatoes very well. The Crunchy French Toast was a nice surprise. It was similar to French toast sticks. Dip into a cream sauce that was quite liquidy but just sweet enough... Like a condensed milk. Very delicious but came out lukewarm. The Migas is a scrambled eggs mixture with small cubed potatoes, chorizo, and red peppers. Ketchup/salsa, home-made tortilla chips and tortilla shells accompanied the mixture. This was a favorite of the group. Great flavor and spice with the Migas and the chips were very high quality. We waited about 30 minutes which is pretty normal for the area. Service was prompt and friendly.

I came here with a friend who wanted to try something besides Griddle. This place makes for a great brunch. Not the best Ive ever had, but the food was tasty and the presentation was nice. Norwegian salmon eggs benedict were good, although the eggs could have been a little bit more uncooked. Potatoes had rosemary or some kind of herb that made them good. Corn flake-French toast was beautifully presented and it was good but a little too sweet. I still enjoyed the textures of the cereal with the bread crust and the fresh fruit. I also got a regular Mimosa which was not good. I also thought that most of the decor was nice, but the tables were too close together and the place was a little cramped. I know its a restaurant on Melrose but I did not really enjoy the atmosphere. Overall, I thought the food was reasonable for brunch, but still a little pricey. Parking isnt too bad. I recommend that you arrive early, once I got out at 10:45 AM there was a half hour long line.

This is on of my favorite places to take out of towner, not necessarily because of the good food, but more because it is one of the places that seems to ooze LA from every corner. The wait seems to be 45 minutes regardless of when you go, which is fine because Melrose has a lot of cool stores you can check out while you wait. Menu can be overwhelming but there are really two items you need to check out in my opinion. The crunchy french toast is really good. Believe the hype. They have what a believe to be a dairy based syrup that is absolutely delicious. If youre in more of a savory mood, Id check out the breakfast risotto. Overall, the food is solid but youll have to wait a long time for this place. Its worth it if you have friends in town and they want the true LA brunch experience (which inherently involves waiting anyway). Bring snacks if you have friends that get hangry
