I originally went to one in silicon valley. My friend swore it was the best food on the planet, but the food and the service were horrible. My friend found this local one, and said it was so good, much better than Big Boys. I should have known - thats sort of like saying its better than Dennys or McDonalds. When I went it was lunch time and the service was slow, the food was bad, and the manager didnt care. Our order wasnt rocket science, we just ordered chili fries and burgers. When we complained, the manager came over. We said the meats kind of dry and the chili is tasteless. It tastes like chili con carne from a can. Instead of saying she was sorry, or asking if there was something else wed like, and taking it off the bill, the manager actually just turned and walked away from the table. The server came back and we said we didnt want the rest. She offered dessert, so we had two pies and coffees for $30, because they didnt take the other food off the bill. They are a newer restaurant so they should know, if you dont treat your customers well, they wont last, especially since their food is about the quality of any fast food chain.

First time here and probably the last because the service was unacceptable even though they where nice people and had a positive attitude they seemed overwhelmed and unorganized. I was with a party of seven and all I ordered was a Bear Claw (witch was delicious by the way) but everybody got their food before I got My Bear Claw and it took about half an hour just to get their food out to us, had to go to the restroom before the food got there and the orders where piled up at the pick up window waiting to be taken out to their customers and only after I told them I was missing My order did they bring out my Bear Claw ten minutes later so not sure if its just that they are understaffed or poorly trained.

At around 7:45pm I called in to check the hours to which I was responded that they closed at 9. They did not mention they were no longer seating guests. Me and my family went in at 8:10pm and the hostess apologized because they were not taking anymore guests. We asked if we could order take out and they said the kitchen also wasnt taking anymore orders. This would have been nice to know over the phone. Tremendously disappointed in a company that I once thought was amazing and now dont hold their customers with as much respect as they used to. You did me wrong Black Bear. You lost a loyal customer.

Ive eaten at probably 15 different Black Bear Dinners and overall find therm to be a great breakfast restaurant; good food, large portions, great value, good service. This one has the first three of those attributes in common but the fourth, service, was sadly lacking. The wait time was crazy long, over an hour and parking was terrible; they need a different / bigger site. Our server, while nice, was terrible; we waited almost an hour for our food, ran out of coffee seversl times, and were forced to walk the restaurant three times to find her to ask for assistance.

Ive only been there once, so maybe it was a bad night, but our service was awful. Extremely long wait to even get our drink order in. One meal was wrong and the waiter literally pulled out the menu and argued with us about why it was right. He realized the menu had changed and said very annoyed, "well what do you want?". He definitely didnt try to make it right. He also never showed up back at the table until he tossed our bill down. On another note, my burger was good.

I liked it. I had only been to the Signal Hill one before. The waitress was happy even though there were lots of grumpy people. She apologized for the chef not giving the people a bloody burger. I say if you want a bloody burger tell them that! Anywho I was redeeming my birthday coupon. I believe they have the best syrup Ive ever had! The waitress kept our raspberry iced tea coming so we werent empty. The bathrooms were clean. I liked it a lot!

Dont underestimate the serving portions! The sausage was bigger than my fat long fingers. The pancakes were size of frizbees. The bacon was still oinking. Ive never seen a burger that requires a custom bun. Huge. The internet was about as reliable as Obamacare. Fail. Lisa, wait staff, was easy going and very accommodating. Side of bacon, 2eggs into mini omelet. Get a booth. You can lay down after you fill up. Hibernate!

A great American diner with better food than other typical diners such as Dennys and Norms. The portions are absolutely massive, with everyone during our dinner was stuffed and left with leftovers. I ordered a steak, and it was delicious and juicy! The fries were crispy, and my friend ordered chicken tenders which were delicious as well. The wait can be a little long, but well worth it!

Lovely little local breakfast spot with delicious, generous meals. We had Asparagus frittata which came with house potatoes and an assortment of fresh fruit; and avocado toast 3-ways, which means 1 topped w a fried egg, 1 w bacon, and 1 w fresh tomatoes. This was also served w fruit. Coffee and service were good too. Theres some local funky artwork on the walls available for sale.

Every time I come here there are 10+ of us and we never call ahead. They seat us relatively quickly and are tremendously patient with us. Service is always top knotch. Mark (who is no longer a server but got promoted) is the best! This is our spot. Food is delicious and fair priced. People are great. Highly recommend Black Bear Diner.

This is hands down my favourite diner in south Torrance. The food is always excellent and the staff even remembers me when I come in and tries their best to seat me in my usual spot at the counter. They even ask about how my mom is doing if I happen to show up without her. They make me feel like family and it is greatly appreciates.

Came on Sunday after the reviews looked good waited half hour to be seated in a tiny table and the girl that sat us just threw a newspaper at me ...found out it was the menu but it was rude. Food wasnt the business . My husband enjoyed his 3cups of cranberry juice. This place scratched out our list forever.

This restaurant is a gem for a quiet dinner for two or a family. They are very accommodating and are happy to make any changes to the meal you request. Different pasta? Of course! Veal chops, let them know in advance and they will be there. I love how delicious their Italian food is...its old school food.

Awful service, everything took a long time and we had to remind our server to bring our drinks twice. When we got our lemonade it was the most watered down disgusting drink ive ever had. The bacon was horribly undercooked and the food in general was mediocre at best. Not coming here again anytime soon

Nice family place, great kids menu and food is good. Watch out for their giant burger. I eat vegetarian so they have the veggie burger alternative and its really good. There are cute wooden bears everywhere you look, and small versions in gift shop you can buy. Try it...gets really busy too.
