I stopped by around 3pm on a Thursday looking for some coffee at a place with wi-fi to get some work done. All three employees I interacted with seemed downright depressed. I received no greeting, no thank you, not even a hint of a smile. Usually, I prefer a more self-serve style, but even for me this lack of interaction was disappointing. While cashing me out the employee at the register brusquely turned to another and stated that she needed her shift to end, now. She got a snippy respons. From the brief exchange I overheard it sounded like this poor employee had been on the register all day long and needed a break. Either way, the conversation was not one I would have wanted to overhear. So I grab my coffee mug and fill it up. $3 for unlimited refill coffee is a great deal, and the coffee was pretty good. Nothing amazing, but tasty. I got a ginger cookie which was delicious - nice and crispy on the edges, chewy on the inside, and loaded with ginger. My time sitting was brief. The internet, well somehow it didnt exist for me or the next two people who sat down and tried to connect. The tables were also pretty sticky. To be fair, the place was very full, so maybe it was just bad timing. Overall, desert was tasty and the menu looked great. But the employee attitude was contagious, such a downer.

My friend was retiring and I needed to get a cake. I came by this place to give it taste before ordering. So first time around I got a mini flour-less chocolate cake. It was pretty darn good. So after sharing that cake and getting the ok from some co-workers, I decided to go with the Chocolate Fortress. Even the name itself was something to be reckoned with. Chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse and raspberry filling topped with fresh raspberry and chocolate shards. Yes, I died and went to heaven. This cake is extremely rich and very heavy. I couldnt figure what message I wanted when I went in to order. They allowed me to call the day before pick up. This was so painless to order a cake. Now this will be my go to place in Oakland for special occasion cakes.

This place just shot to the top of my list of favorite places for lunch in Oakland. I grabbed a Sriracha Chicken and Onion pizza there that, without exaggeration, just reset my expectations for good pizza. The staff was unbelievably attentive and outgoing even though they were slammed with a line out the door. There was such an air of quality and high standards that I want to make a point to work my way through their entire menu! This feels like the kind of place that will make you fall in love with foods or ingredients you never cared for in the past.

Bright and airy warehouse space in Oakland, housing a bakery/cafe which offers a variety of cookies, tarts, cupcakes, and other desserts in addition to lunch fare-- including salads, soup and sandwiches, plus coffee and tea. I was impressed by the detailed labels on each of the bakery offerings, which lists ingredients and empowers those with nut, dairy, gluten, and other such dietary concerns to make informed choices. A perfect spot to meet up with friends spanning the spectrum of consciousness in eating, minus the fuss.

Absolutely rude service. I had heard great things about their food, but when I called about delivery, this was the conversation: Me :"Hi, I was wondering if you deliver?" Sweet: "Yes, its a $20 flat fee and but I doubt we can do it today." Me: "Just to clarify, does that mean spending $20 will get free deliver or that it is $20 to deliver?" Sweet: "Oh nevermind, thank you fo-" *Click* I guess Ill take my order of $120 in baked good elsewhere. I enjoy good food but cant stand poor customer service.

We drove in from Sacramento. I told employees that we needed to catch a movie in 20 min. "The pizza will be ready in 9 min," the employee told me. After waiting 15 min, I asked for the food to be put in a to-go container. Then the employees began making snide remarks to each other. They became rude toward me, as if I were serving THEM. I had never been treated like that in a place of business. We will never return!

Such a cute little bakery. Great gluten-free options and good coffee too. Im vegetarian and allergic to onions so their breakfast options are limited. I usually ask them to make their ham and cheese crossiant sandwich without the ham. In the morning, its nice and quiet, but in the afternoon, it can get quite crowded and loud. So, if youre looking for a place to study, go there in the morning.

Love this super friendly bakery/workspace with a vintage feel. The cookies and pastries are really good, and reasonably priced. There is plenty of street parking and some outdoor seating as well. Bonus Tip: the bathrooms are super clean and well worth the admission price of a cookie if you need to take a bio break on while shopping on Broadway!

I normally dont like to make the time to post reviews, but I felt I couldnt pass up on this one. The CBR sandwich was delicious! I also enjoyed my iced espresso latte with almond milk. If I lived in the area I would easily eat here on a regular basis. A must place to eat at!

Unique and tasty bakery treats and coffee that rivals any of the best coffee houses in Oakland served up in a bright, open, light filled space by some of the friendliest people you could want. So glad to see this new food and coffee offering come to my neighborhood!

This is my favorite cafe in the neighborhood. Friendly staff, delicious sweets, and $3 refillable coffee. The wifi is consistently reliable, making it a good place to work, although electrical outlets are a little scarce. Staff is also super friendly.

I felt like I finally found my community when I got here. Whoopie pies, wine, and good coffee. This is the ideal spot to hang out alone or with a friend to catch up. They even have a happy hour. This is how a bakery is done right !

Pecan pie was so good I had to call her back after they closed just to tell her! It was so rich, succulent, and deliciously crusted, and tasted just like something Jesus himself baked:) Im hooked and will be back for more!

Wifi bakery with a hipster vibe. Great place to grab lunch with friends/colleagues or to get some work done. Delicious pastries also to impress guests or your office.

The baked items are the saving grace of this place. The savory food is mediocre and the employees typically seem annoyed they have to interact with customers.

Just returned from a month in Europe, sampling cappuccino and croissants along the way. Turns out that the best of both can be found at Sweet Bar.
