The first two visits here were AWESOME!!! Great service, ahhhhmazing food, great environment, friendly people. My third visit was close to their posted closing time (10 p.m.), a colleague and I walked in at 9:30 p.m., and the waitresses and hostess said, "Sorry, were closed!" We said, "But your website says 10:00 p.m..." They replied, "Oh, thats only on Fridays and Saturdays. Go to Dennys; theyre right down the road!" But, again, the website says 10:00 p.m. Sunday thru Saturday. So... Dont go to Black Bear Cafe late. Theyre good while theyre "open..." Their management needs to update the profile here on Google search to reflect their correct hours. Not real happy right now, and still hungry! Oakland location. * update 6/14/16 * Returned for lunch today, had Asian Cabbage & Chicken Salad - tremendous and delicious! Asked the cashier about the hours; she also told me 9 p.m. I informed her that your website and Google advertise 10 p.m. during the week, 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. She was unaware of those hours. Shes the fourth waitress that didnt know about the hours advertised online. The staff should be informed of the correct operating hours, so when I come back for dinner around 9, Ill be served! Or, Correct the hours on the website and on Google search, so I dont leave disappointed, not to mention weary travelers coming into OAK hungry and looking to eat late too!

Came in on a Friday around 3 pm. We were excited about coming and trying it out. Its not clear if you stand at the door for a table, or if you are to go to the register. Alot of staff standing around. We were seated by an older gentleman who asked for our drink order. We werent ready ,so we looked at the menu. Our waitress came over and took our drink and food order. She had to come back because she never asked if we wanted soup or salad or what two sides. Our drinks came out with our salads. We sat for 10 minutes waiting when finally a young man brought our drinks and she brought the salads. Thats was the last time we saw her until our meal was over. Our food was served 5 minutes after we got our salads. We only received one side and did not receive the corn bread. If we had seen our waitress once we would requested any of the missing items. The food was ok. French fries soggy, ribs fatty. No refills on drinks. When we were finished with our meal the waitress finally came back to the table. We mention we did not get the potato salad. Rather than bringing it or packing it to go, she decided to take 1.40 off of our bill, ?. It was pointless. The service was terrible, and she didnt know the menu. Major disappointment.

We were asked multiple times how many people were in my party by the same hostess. Once seated drink orders took a while. When they came out the diet soda was off. More like bitter brown soda water. Asked for tea to replace it. Tea was OLD or they hadnt cleaned the container for a month. Meals came out and the chicken strip meal had exactly 2 chicken strips. It was NOT ordered as a kids meal. It took another 5 minutes before the sauce that was ordered with them came out. Kids volcano meal came out with 3 pancakes and 2 eggs (WAY more food than my 7 year old could eat). The tri tip meals were supposed to be a kids and a little less. We seemed to get a little less and a full meal. Drinks were not refilled even once. I love Black Bear Diner, but my experiences in locations owned by this particular owner have always turned out to be atrocious. I will not be back here again. The Walnut Creek location is amazing and will continue to make the treck to go there rather then go to the Oakland location again.

Hoy por la mañana Fui con mi familia a desayunar y fue la peor experiencia en uno d estos restaurantes no pongo media Estrella porque no se puede pero en realidad merecen 0 estellas la mesera fue lo peor q mal servicio al cliente tiene esa mujer y la manager igual No se apuraron con mi comida y tube Que dejar el lugar sin desayunar porque mi comida llego hora y media despues q la ordene

I came into blck bear a few days ago to have my usual shrimp and fries i was skeptical about the coleslaw that came with it but my server sweetz with a "z" assured me that it was good she was very nice always smiling fast with my food and kept my cup full until i left. This is a new restaurant ib the area and im glad they have servers like that Ive had some bad experiences with waitresses and this was not one of those times it was very pleasant very welcoming..im coming back sweetz with a "z" by the way the clowslaw was good thank you!

Service sucked!! We walked in this morning (friday around 10am) it wasnt very busy yet waited to be seated, once we were seated we wsited at our table for 10-15 minutes and no one acknowledged us or took our drink order but there were plenty of servers or other workers just walking around. We decided to leave, hostess told us to have a good day while a worker at the registered comment "they didnt even eat". We went when they first opened and service was very good...but now its just bad and it wasnt even busy.

This diner has absolutely no consistency. At all... as a manager myself, the staff, food, and customer service has no consistency from one day to the next. I have had great service and horrible service. Great food, and food with a HAIR in it!! That was the last time I was there... and, for the overly price meals you would expect a higher expectation. No. Management needs to fire some people, call their district manager for help, and maybe fire everyone and start fresh! Get it together Black Bear Diner

Horrible service waited to be seated no ones ever came to greet or seat us I was trying to celebrate my son birthday but had to walk out Of that place when I asked a female that worked there that I had been waiting to be seated her answer was you need to wait until I finish the stuff that Im doing she was been so loud and so rude I had to leave due to that my son in autistic and that type of situation get him scare. My first and last time in that place (11/30/16 9:00 a.m.)

Black bear cafe in Oakland first time visiting this restaurant. Its on a main street in the business district and easy access. The food was good and prices comparable to any others serving burgers, fries etc. However there was one man waiter that seated customer, took the orders, served and cashed them out. This made the process slower than if hed had help. He was too busy to come to our table to check on other needs. Not his fault . Overall it was alright. Will not return.

I wish there was a thumbs down. This place is honestly terrible. Last week I went to have breakfast with my mother and siblings for the first time. They sat us down and gave the menu. *15 minutes passed* and all the waitress kept passing by my table looking at us and no one came to ask what we wanted to drink. We were the only Latinas there and the waitresses were attending only white people. This is really sad but true... This had never happened to me specially in Oakland...
