Exceptional food. Best Italian I have eaten anywhere including NYC. Now, physical layout is not great, more NYC in style, but thats to be expected for a 20 plus year family restaurant. This came highly recommended by many BH locals and did not disappoint. The restaurant is below ground level, dark, and projects a low ceiling although Im not sure it is. We arrived at 8:30 and bar was fairly packed so we were on the back side where there is not walking distance for flow through crowd. But, once seated we had three appetizer, all better than the next: calamari salad which is a slightly different take on calamari, tomato/cheese dish, and veal in a very unique sauce (sorry I forgot the seasoning but it was very odd sounding mixture). All were great. We had three entrees: basic pasta (highly recommended), sea bass (absolutely exceptionally done, and I let the waiter order his choice for me. It was a pasta dish unlike any I had had and was very, very good. I was told by another friend to not let them order wine for you as the selection is exceptional and will not be cheap. I dont mind pricing for a special meal but I took this to mean watch out for a $1,000 bottle order. Yes, this is somewhat of a celebrity hangout with paparazzi out when we arrived and very active when we left as Keanu Reeves was leaving when we did. This is not a detriment to our meal. This place is all about the food and old line Beverly Hills charm. If thats what you are looking for, this is definitely the place. Ill be back on my next trip for sure.

The atmosphere was amazing, from the time we walked in the door I was sure the night was going to be a success. It started going downhill when we waited about 45 minutes past our reservation time. But, this is pretty indicative of smaller restaurants so we were able to overlook this. When we finally sat down at our table, our waiter was very short with us. We were charged a ridiculous fee of $35 for corking the wine that I brought, and after the wine was poured we didnt see the waiter again for roughly 30 minutes. When he did come back we made sure to have our entire order ready. We ordered burrata pizza to start; we are not food experts, but we concluded that the pizza was in fact Mozzarella cheese not burrata. Our main courses were marginal. Then finally for dessert, we ordered "Gelato". Again, we are not food experts, but we are damn near certain it was Dryers Ice Cream. After this unsatisfactory evening with a nearly non-existent waiter, as expected we tipped lower than usual. Less than 5 seconds after we finished paying and calculating our checks, our waiter ran over and grabbed all of the receipts off the table to inspect how much we had tipped. When he saw that we had tipped under 20% he proceeded to make a scene in the middle of the restaurant. All of the tables in the area turned to look as he yelled at us complaining about our tips. Most ridiculous thing I have experienced. I yelled back complaining of our horrible service and we left the restaurant. Will not return or recommend.

Ive been to Madeo numerous times over the last several years. I went to Madeo just recently for my friends birthday and a had a fabulouSSS dinner. The service is friendly, excellent and attentive, it is a family run place and the family is very present observing the service and insuring the quality. Nobody was pretentious and we got our reserved table with about a 15 minutes wait. Madeo is beyond amazing. I have nothing but great things to say about everything from the service, atmosphere, and, most importantly, the food! The food was marvelous, and always good if not particularly special. The wine list is excellent. Ive never had a bad meal at Madeo. It has the feeling of a Little Italy restaurant in NY...a small and intimate setting that focuses on homemade italian cuisine. I wouldnt be able to just recommend one thing, as everything is simply amazing. The one negative is that it can be LOUD and VERY crowded. Overall, a great experience everytime and I would definitely recommend to any Italian foodie looking for a charming and romantic spot in Beverly Hills... Thanks!

walking into madeo feels like walking into my friends italian home for a wonderful mediteranean meal. the staff is impeccably professional. the owner and his wife greet regulars with hugs and kisses. gianni (the owners son) offers a top of the line wine list and always has the best recommendations for your meal. my regular choices: artichoke and parmesean salad, zuccini flower ravioli, and osso bucco. the only thing better is the napoleon dessert with an espresso. enjoy a bottle of wine and hire a driver! p.s. dinner at the bar is a nice romantic change..a great date choice!

The staff gave us an unwelcoming feeling from the waiting area until the end of our dinner. The service was not very organized. We were seated first into a booth, and secondly a larger family sat behind our booth. Our waiter greeted us, but served the larger family first. We didnt feel very welcome because our waiter would hardly check on us and checked on the family more often, he wouldnt even look at us when we were giving our orders. If you are looking for a place where your waiter is very inconsiderate about ones eating. This is the place to be.

Besmir took great care of my order. We had to order to go as we were departing out of Van Nuys within the hour. We ordered 8 entrees to go and it took maybe 15 minutes tops from the time I walked in to the time I received my food! I was given a seat while I waited and was checked on quite frequently. The interior is that of a classic, traditional Italian Ristorante and the use of space is phenomenal. I personally enjoyed the Lasagnette Intordell, which was highly recommended by Besmir. The Ravioli Spinaci was also incredible.

This restaurant is absolutely NOT what it used to be. The service is terrible starting with the receptionist that picks up the phone to make a reservation. It is very disappointing that the restaurant has not only grown tired biut the food is absolutely not what it was famous for. If you want to try a wonderful place very close by, with outstanding food, great, authentic Italian hospitality, go to Il Cielo on Doheny. They have much more comfortable atmosphere and better food. I am very disappointed I have to write this review.

Visiting the Los Angeles area on a family vacation with my wife and three teenage/young adult children. We were also joined for dinner by an old friend. We arrived about half an hour early for our reservation but were still seated promptly. Service was very good. The wait staff was attentive, cordial and helpful. The food was excellent. Presentation was ok. Excellent wine list with a good selection of "by the glass" choices. Pricey but worth it.

A disappointment from the front door to dessert. Front door was locked when we arrived on time for 6pm reservation. Hostess shouted through the window "five more minutes - were having a meeting". WHAAAAAAT? You have paying customers waiting to get in -- open the door! Or get your meeting over with BEFORE dinner service begins. Very ordinary food, VERY loud, not charming wait staff. Dont waste your time or money!
