despite some poor reviews, we took the advise of the hotel concierge and came to Asakuma Rice in West Hollywood. we were in search of chinese soup and noodle dishes, and they did and excellent job on both fronts. I had egg drop soup with corn and crab meat to start and that was great. for my principal dish I had the pad thai tofu with snap peas and baby bokchoy. my partner had the champong, a spicy chili, muscle and black mushroom in beef broth with udon noodles. his soup was huge, more than enough to cure a rainy day in LA. toss in a big bottle of perrier and the bill was $30. an excellent value for our full and satisfied bellies.

These guys sent us 5 packets of soy sauce even though we didnt order any rice, they sent no utensils and no napkins, and both or the fortune cookies had the same "fortune"! (Which, I might add, was more of a statement of life than a fortune.) The kung pao chicken was good, though not nearly spicy enough, but we wont fault them for that. So, by all means order, the food is pretty good, but you better have your own chopsticks, napkins, and not believe in the tellings of the wise fortune cookie.

Asakuma Rice is the closest Chinese restaurant to me, so I frequent it a good bit. This place is great to go for a basic Chinese menu. The fried rice is excellent. Ive never tried the sushi here, so not sure how that is. I strictly go for full flavor Chinese dishes. Ive never had bad service here. The atmosphere is nothing more than average, but the food is consistently good. You get large portions, enough to share, and at a very affordable price.

The lunch menu here is cheap and has large portions, but it is all the same salty, glutinous gelantineous stuff. You can get your chickenbeefporktofu in any one of six combinations. Plus free egg roll and salad. Nevertheless, I find myself here every other week at least.

Placed order at 5:45. Called to check on it at 6:45 and they said it would be there soon. Called to check on it again at 7:30 and they informed me that it hadnt even been cooked yet. Cooked food is OK. Sushi is terrible.

Was my favorite place to come to was in love with pad Thai noodles and then the year change and so did the food. I dont know if they changed chefs or owners the food is not the same...

The fish wasnt fresh at all. Everything was soggy and tasted horrible. We threw it away, didnt want to chance getting sick. What a total waste of money!!!!!!

Good happy hour prices but not great food. Theres definitely better sushi out there for what youll end up paying
