We decided to have wedding banquet at Pearl half year before the wedding day. We went there to pay deposit to secure the day and talked about the menu. The manager gave us a final price after we made some changes on their banquet menu, and also promised to give us two enclosed areas for our guests. We asked if we could confirm the menu at the time, but the managers suggested us to pay the deposit first and do the rest of the stuffs a month before the wedding day. After we paid the deposit, interesting things happened: 1. A month before the wedding, we went there to confirm the menu, the manager made us to pay more on the menu we already agreed with five months ago, although the price on their official menu has NOT changed. We compromised because we did not want anyone be unhappy. 2. A week before the wedding, the manager said the rule of enclosed area JUST changed and need to cut more than half of the area that he promised to give us before we paid the deposit. 3. The manager suggested us to have more tables to make the total as $10K if we don’t want it that packed for our guests. We compromised again because it was too late to change location. 4. Four days before the wedding, we called the owner to confirm. What surprised us is, the rule has been changed AGAIN in two days. He told us that we had to make the total as $12K now if we wanted the area that they promised to give us before we paid the deposit. 5. We ordered scallop, but they were not fresh, some of them turned yellow and grey. They tried to hide the stale smell/taste by adding extra salt. Some of our friends got stomach sick after eating scallop there.

THIS IS THE WORST RESTAURANT IVE EVER BEEN TO. Ive been here once before for a sit down meal and it was a very enjoyable experience. Although the dining room was extremely outdated, the food and service were great so we agreed to return a few months later. We ordered sweet & sour chicken, pan fried egg noodles with beef, sautéed vegetables and pan fried rice noodles with vegetables to go over the phone. Whoever initially answered was unable to speak English so after a rather lengthy wait, a rather rude woman struggled to take our order and gave us a 15 minute pick up time. We arrived, picked up the food and as we were preparing to check the food, a woman who said she was the manager physically placed her hands on top of our good and guaranteed us that everything was fine. Why we took her word is beyond me, but when we got home and opened our containers we were appalled by what we saw. The food was literally unedible. The noodles looked more like a birds nest they were so badly burned. The rice was translucent and goopy. We received to soup bowls cleverly hidden in syrofoam containers. Dont EVER eat here.

I was decently surprised by how good and decently priced this place was. The dim sum items were not as good as dim sum at a proper Chinatown, but for a place that is catered towards people new to dim sum, I was surprised by how unwesternized the food was. Some of the more difficult dishes to make were poorly done, but that can be seen in various dim sum places, authentic or otherwise. The only thing for me is that the servers really only new English for the most part. Since I didnt know a lot of the dim sum dishes in English, it was a lot more pointing at items for me than I am normally used to. Also, there is a great, tranquil park behind the restaurant that is worth a digestive stroll after stuffing your face with dim sum.

I came here on Saturday around 12:30 with the family. Most of their food is delicious, with some notable misses on taste and service execution. First, I am not a fan of the scantron and ordering almost all at once. Takes away from dim sum experience. Second, their sweet tofu is just terrible. It has a gritty rather than silky texture. Second, in both of the ones I ordered, one was truly undersweetened and the other completely not sweet. Next, I had actually ordered the second to go but it was served on a dish. I spoke with the manager and he took the second sweet tofu off the bill, but this restaurant is slowly going downhill. Need more surge staff on weekends and revamp recipes and better execution of preparing dishes.

We went for an early-brunch Dim Sum. We got there before 11 and thankfully no line yet. We were seated immediately and told about their new way of serving. Now you get a menu showing each of their dishes, and then you fill out a scantron with the amount of each dish youd like. My suggestion would be to try to get your dishes all at one time. The restaurant gets very busy and youll have to wave down a waiter to come pick up your scantron. All in all, we love the food here and will keep coming back. Only downside is that the prices keep rising and the service is a bit slow. But if youre craving dim sum, this is definitely a great place to go. I always recommend the pork dim sum and the chinese brocolli.

It costs more. Because it tastes best. Even tastier than ghetto LA Monterey Park food. Have the peking duck, BEST honey walnut shrimp, birds nest with filet, tofu seafood soup, 8 treasure clay pot, garlic seafood fried rice. Man am I hungry. The only two reasons to live in North County. Pearl Chinese Cuisine and Loveboat Sushi in San Marcos. Chinese restaurants are not about service, people! Theyre about quality of food! If you want good service, hit up PF Changs, the best fake Chinese in the world :) Dont let pride over how you think you should be treated take away from your palates ability to enjoy the best Chinese food easily in SD and on par with the best Chinese restaurants in Bay Area/LA.

My first time here! I loved it! I felt like I was at a Chinese wedding. There were white tablecloths & chair covers. I have never had Dim Sum, but I love little portions of food. The servers kept bringing out carts of food and they were served in little metal baskets. I love pot stickers and a lot of the items reminded me of them. Everything I had was yummy! It would be fun to go with a group of 4 or more and try everything. I thought the price was reasonable too. They charge per item from $2.60-$4.60 (but you get 3 in a basket) The service was pretty good also, considering the horrible service in most places in San Diego. They were attentive even though it was packed. I will go back again!

We say that when you see a lot of Asian eating in a Chinese restaurant in the US, youd know that this is a good Chinese restaurant. Every time we came to Pearl, most customers were Asian and many of them actually spoke Chinese. Food at Pearl is authentic Chinese cuisine, for the most part of the menu, its Cantonese style. (We tried the Peking duck on its menu and it was quite good too!). Food is quite tasty and reasonably priced. Id say its one of the best Chinese restaurants in San Diego. The decor of the restaurant is a bit old styled though-- an upgrade of the decor would make the dining experience even more enjoyable.
