This place is AMAZING! Theres not much to not like about the place, which is probably the only negative, as its always packed! We made a reservation for 8:15 last night, but their reservation system just means you get to the top of the list, not that they will have a table waiting for you. I didnt mind so much, but it would have been nice to know that ahead of time so we could have made an earlier appointment. We ended up waiting about 30-40 minutes after our reservation to be seated. The staff at the front were very apologetic and kept giving me updates, even though I didnt come up to them which I thought was superb of them. The manager that night eventually came up to us to apologize and offered a free appetizer while we waited. She gave us two orders of the artichokes and we ate them outside while we waited. The artichokes were delicious! The added flavor by grilling them was awesome and coupled with the dip they provided made for quite the appetizer. Once seated, the service maintained its awesomeness. Our waitress was very friendly and was always checking on us to see if we needed anything. One thing to note is that this place doesnt charge a corkage fee, so bring your own wine! We ordered two more apps, deviled eggs and the cornbread. You must get the cornbread! Its to die for and quite possibly the best cornbread youll ever have in your life. The deviled eggs were also memorable. My wife and I split the Hawaiian rib-eye, which was more than enough for us after all those appetizers. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and the marinade they used was wonderful! Mashed potatoes are just mashed potatoes, right? WRONG! These were so soft and fluffy and went great with the steak. The greens were also included as a side and was prepared nicely as well. We had a group of 6 and we got to try the prime rib and beef back ribs. Both were wonderful and the beef back ribs were just as good as I remember them being when I came here the first time. I didnt think I would have any room left in me for dessert, but we ordered two plates for the group, the banana cream pie and Orero ice cream sandwich. WOW! If I didnt have any room before for dessert, I surely made some! The Oreo was so good ,although a bit too rich for me. Full disclosure: Im not a huge fan of overly sweet desserts, but this one was nicely balanced out by the ice cream. The banana cream pie was much more on the lighter side. The cake portion was pudding-like. The crust was made up of chocolate, which went very nicely with the cake and banana. Overall, it was a great meal. Well worth the wait. The only minor complaints would have to be the wait time and high level of noise. It was definitely not enough to make it a negative experience though and we will definitely be back!

The Los Altos Grill (formerly known as "Banderas") is where Los Altos happenin crowd come out to see and be seen. If you enjoy watching middle aged, upper middle class ladies trying really hard to be hot, this is the place to come! The place is packed with affluent professionals -- attorneys, bankers, realtors, dentists, etc. -- and their trophy spouses letting their hair down. My wife and I come often. We prefer to eat at the bar if we can, so we have a good view of the fun. We then people watch shamelessly and have a great time. Its a very friendly place, so we often strike up a conversation with groups near us and meet new friends. Did I mention food?? Yes they serve food too. Im in a serious rut; I order the prime rib 9 times out of 10. But there are other good things on the menu, too. The menu is limited, but it is almost always good. Try the artichokes as an appetizer. Also, their french fries are the absolute best. (Be sure and ask for them instead of mashed potatos with your prime rib.) Note that there is almost always a huge wait (a half hour to an hour) on Thursday through Saturday night for a table. They used to not take reservations at all, but now they take a small number (3 at any one time, I think.) We dont bother, since the point is to mingle and sit at the bar anyway. And one last note: they do takeout as well. Same price. Order it from the little stand in the back on the right. Hope to meet you there!

I had a poor experience eating at Los Altos Grill. My family and I went to celebrate my 21st birthday. Unfortunately, not only does Los Altos Grill not offer a cocktail menu, they dont do ANYTHING special for birthdays. I asked for a bartenders whim drink with the only caveat that it not be overly sweet. Perhaps the waiter only heard "overly sweet" because I was offered a grapefruit greyhound with a rim full of sugar... Food came out sporadically from the kitchen, so much so that one guest had finished their meal as another received theirs. To make matters worse, one dish was delivered piping hot and the plate caused a second degree burn. The oven-mitt wearing waiter did not warn us that the plate was hot before she handed over the meal. Overall, the poor service taints the memories of the few good dishes we ate. My only recommendations: Grilled artichokes and cornbread.

Overall: fantastic dining experience. We were late for our reservation but the hostess managed to seat us in ~15 minutes. Our waiter was super friendly & warm. We told him that we were under a time constraint and he was able to take our orders immediately. Everything we had was delicious - the "nice little house salad" was fresh and perfectly dressed. The corn bread coutons were surprising but good. The grilled jumbo artichokes were delectable - perfectly grilled, mildly seasoned. We split the prime rib (its more than enough meat for 2) and ordered a side of rosemary focaccia. The prime rib was just perfect and the au jus adds to it. The rosemary focaccia was great - fluffy & doughy, and just the right amount of salt. Everything we got we would order again.

Having grown up in Palo Alto, I can say with confidence that the Los Altos Grill (previously Bandera) is one of the best restaurants in town. The service is excellent, the food is delicious and youll almost always find a loud and lively crowd there. If youre a meat and/or fish lover, I highly recommend stopping by. My personal favorite is the Mahi Mahi fish burger/sandwich. While the menu is not very robust in size or diversity, just about everything is fantastic. The appetizers are great, the bartenders know how to make a drink and Ive always enjoyed my experiences there. The downside, there is typically quite a lengthy wait and not much empty space for you to stick around.

Came here for a work function and was blown away by the excellence of the food. We had the french dip prime rib sandwich, the cornbread skillet, and grilled artichokes -- each were fabulous. The sandwich in particular was no-nonsense beautifully-cooked meat on bread paired with au jus and a very tasty horseradish sauce. The place is finely decorated and speaks of cleanliness and class. Service was prompt and friendly. The restaurants sports a full bar, but curiously doesnt have their own house cocktails which youd normally expect for a place of this genre. That said, the standard drinks mixed were solid.
