Im local - Santa Cruz. Ive had lunch here several times, but this time decided to take my two adult sons for a nice dinner and enjoy the sunset. Im sorry to say that our dinner was disappointing. While the hostess was very friendly and an animated, the waiters were understaffed (our waitress was very sweet, but too busy to be properly attentive). Mainly we were disappointed in the food. We ordered the calamari and cerviche for appetizers. Calamari was good, and the cerviche had a nice jalapeno bite to it which we liked, but it did not seem fresh as a good cerviche should. The baby shrimp were likely frozen and a little tough. For entrees we ordered the salmon and scallops. The salmon itself was good, but the sauce on top was not, and the cold quinoa salad underneath was bitter and unsavory, not good at all (and we really like quinoa!). The scallops were decent, but not outstanding. Food just seemed very average, or below, for the cost at almost $30/plate. Also, the menu seemed a little limited to us. The view - to die for, absolutely. But the food? I dont think we will be back unfortunately. I remember lunch being much better (but I also liked it better when it was upstairs - now turned into a banquet room).

Beautiful view of the beach. Service by Matt was excellent but it seemed like he was the only one servicing many tables. Since the restaurant is in a hotel (Dream Inn) and seems to cater to families, there were many children. Perhaps not the place for a romantic dinner. For the price, the runner should have had kept our water glasses filled, but alas this was not the case. The sourdough bread, caesars salad, and my husbands fish were delicious. However, my pork chop, which I was told would be cooked "medium" was overcooked and dried out. I watched someone the next table over who ordered the same thing, sawing away at it until they finally gave up. My glass of Cabernet was good. The dessert could have been great, but they smothered the delicious, delicate apple filled pastry with caramel and ice cream. $96 with tip for the two people (1 Caesars salad, 1 glass of wine, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert) is pricey and I expected more from my entree. But overall the other items were good.

Although the food was extremely tasty and served fast, the staff is extremely racist for the time while my father was visiting Santa Cruz. My father is a man of color and he likes his espresso. He ordered a quad, then another quad, and finally a third quad. Which after he ordered the third quad espresso the waiter informed him that the espresso was "expensive" and asked if "he would be able to afford it." I will never be going back to that place because of how they treated my visiting father. There is no stated dress policy so I dont see the need for him to get all dressed up for breakfast when hes 1 of 3 people in the entire restaurant. He was in a sweater and shorts, so he doesnt look like all the other foreigners that visit the place but he drives a BMW and can afford to stay in the hotel just to visit his son at the extremely expensive college. If you area person of color just be aware of going to dine at this restaurant.

I began with a neat Makers Mark, $10. We started our culinary quest with the "Marin County Oysters cocktail | mignonette | lemon | gf | 13". The broth was light and tasty allowing your pallet to actually receive the slightly steamed mussels which were accompanied by petite slices of sausage and potatoes. Main course for me was the "King Salmon brussels sprouts | quinoa | root vegetables | greek yogurt | gf | 29" which was cooked to perfection. My wonderful husband had "Fish & Chips 3 pieces | tarter sauce | fries | 18" which was also very good. We both agreed probably the best fish and chips we have found so far in Santa Cruz during our 3-4 day stay every 28 days which we began in July 2015. Chelsea was our server and was very nice and attentive. The setting is beachy romantic with the homeless and surfers providing entertainment. The view is the best Santa Cruz has to offer.

Food was okay but the service staff are terrible. When they brought the wrong salad out the waitress and server both argued with us about what salad we ordered. Even if we accidentally placed the order incorrectly just fix the order and dont make a scene. The guy who served the salad said "well this is what was on the ticket!".. seriously dude. The waitress insisted thats what we ordered but obviously she heard wrong. Only a few people there so there was no excuse to take 15 minutes to check on us. The guy waiting on the table next to us was blatenly hitting on girls at the table next to us and even asked to hang out with them later. The girls left quickly. Huge disappointment as we are staying in the Dream Inn upstairs. We also had dinner reservations that well be cancelling.. no tip and we wont be back.

This place is nice on the inside, but the food and prices both suck. The wait staff is also creepy enough to make the whole experience very unnerving. I hate when people hover. The food was terrible. Random fruit mixed in with everything. The "Farmers Market salad" contained random crap including fava beans and previously frozen apricots. The scallops had a nasty Meyer Lemon risotto and the other dishes here had orange & grapefruit slices mixed in with a creamy wasabi sauce with other dishes - the food equivalent of brushin your teeth and drinking OJ. Probably the nastiest thing Ive ever tasted. Save yourselves your hard earned $$ and eat at some place that is serving actual edible food and not crappy tourist food at ridiculous prices.

Wow. I wanted to sit by the window to enjoy the ocean view and the staff was extremely inhospitable about it. I was told by the hostess, who was quite RUDE to us, that the tables by the window were "reserved" and i was forbidden! I insisted, So they crammed us into a corner by the service station with a partial pier view, all the while the "reserved" tables sat empty as we dined for an hour and a half. Customers shouldnt be made to feel uncomfortable for requesting an ocean view table at an ocean view restaurant. The food was way over-priced for its marginal quality. I advise to avoid this trap. The smoked turkey legs on the boardwalk is a much better option.

The smell of sewage filled the lobby and bar. The restaurant is near the base of a cliff, at the bottom of a large hotel, with public restrooms right outside the front door, and drains and outflows into the ocean from the surrounding neighborhoods along the bluffs. Stagnant water pooled on the beach just outside the restaurant. Service was slow and disorganized. Food was a little better than what you would expect at Dennys. Waitress was inattentive, and chatted informally for nearly 10 minutes with some customers, while others waited 40 minutes or more for their food. We would not go here again.
