Was waaaay better than I thought it was going to be. Im not going to lie, I was skeptical about the reviews, and was so very close to picking a different restaurant the last minute. Im glad I did not. Not your typical, boring burgers, and the price is reasonable. We had 3 kids and 6 adults in our group, and we all left happy and with full bellies. I had the fish tacos, and the avocado fries are delicious! I actually only got one bite of my two avocado fries, and my 6 yr old and dad ate the rest. Stinkers! My dad had the clam chowder which was piping hot, and he enjoyed. And he is a picky old man, and he loved it! My son got the hot dog kids meal and my niece got the mac and cheese, which was a HUGE plate, and they also had a treat with it. The staff was very friendly too! Ill let the rest of my family review for themselves, but they all told me it was great! :) Would definitely recommend and stop by again.

I was looking for a great burger to eat in Santa Cruz and a lot people recommended Surfrider Cafe. While I enjoyed my food, I have to say I walked a way a little bit disappointed. I personally think the avocado fries are over-hyped. I imagined myself being served avocados that had been squared a lightly battered. Instead, I received deep fried avocado slices that resembled jalapeno poppers more than they did fries. While they did taste good, I dont think they were worth the premium price and would have ordered regular fries next time. The burger was tasty and well seasoned, but the bun it was served on was huge. Im not sure if it was because I chose sourdough over regular bread, but I had to take the top bun off to balance the ratio of bun to burger. Mac and cheese was tasty and there was a good selection of beer.

Great burger joint! I really enjoyed the avocado fries at Surfrider Cafe. It was the highlight of our meal. This place serves huge tasty burgers with the option of a beef patty, a larger beef patty, a turkey burger patty, and a house-made vegetarian patty. Go with the house-made sourdough bun; you wont regret it! The shrimp and chips plate came with an enormous mound of sweet potato fries, enough for the whole table. The portions in this restaurant are ridiculously large; leftovers are yummy the next day. Dont bother with the veggie stir fry. If I had to choose between Saturn and Surfrider, Id go with Saturn just a few blocks down the road. But if youre an avid meat eater, Surfrider is your place.

I was really stoked to see healthy options and lots of vegan choices too. I had The Indicator Burger and it tasted great. I have eaten and made many a burger and this was hands down the best I have tasted. The bun tasted fresh, the meat juicy, and the vegetables crisp and fresh. My wife had the fish and chips she loved it. The prices were very reasonable. I was confused by the clutter of decor, but like the local surf photos and videos. The place smelled good and looked cleaner than what is usually found in the down town area. Friendly waitress and rather on top of it despite it being a busy night. Great food, hospitable and a good bargain.

Me and my sweetie went here On the later side of a Saturday night after wandering around the downtown area looking for something not too fancy, not too corporate, but cozy and good. This place nailed it. Comfortable, great service from the door to the floor, tasty food with a reasonable price to portion ratio, (the sriracha brussels sprouts...mmmmm...) and an unbelievably fast, on point kitchen. Im a restaurant manager and while that makes me very patient with a lot of folly, Im also hard pressed to dole out praise, this place earned it. A classic diner Ithat I hope will stand the test of time.

Weve been twice, two weeks apart, each time with 9 people, kids, teens and adults. The last time with a dog. Both times we sat outside at several tables put together. The wait was short the first time, no wait the second time. Staff was AMAZING, food was even better. Both times a wide variety was ordered and not a single one of us had an issue with the food. Calamari was tender. Avacado fries were crisp and hot. Peanutbutter Chocolate organic pie was killer. Hamburgers were tender and juicy. Cant wait to go back.

My favorite restaurant in Santa Cruz! This place may not look like much on the surface, but the food is always incredible. You should always look at the daily specials, because thats usually where the best stuff is at. Best burger in town, one of the best beer selections in town, and their bottomless wings/fries deal on Mondays give me many reasons to return frequently. Im always surprised all over again every time I eat here at how good the food is!

Had all 3 specials of the day on Saturday - fish, soup, and fresh juice - and they all blew my mind. It truly is food you can feel great about eating. The service was great, the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. My girlfriend and I will most certainly visit again! P.S. On our way out of town, we realized the raw food section at Staff of Life was from La Vie. If only we werent 2.5 hrs away...

Surfrider makes the best burger in town. We love the specials. They always have something new and unique. I have never been let down. Dont missed the fresh house- made sourdough bun. Lots of local beers on tap. Service is great and never slow. There are a couple of high-profile burger places downtown that get more traffic. Skip those mediocre places and go to Surfrider for a gourmet-level burger.

A staple in the "lets go grab dinner" list. Surfrider may get busy on weekend nights especially around movie times, but the food is predictably delicious and having beer from the local brewery is a plus. Kitchsy surf decor and videos give a fun vibe and the trivial pursuits cards on the table are a great ice breaker or conversation starter. Love the sliders, sweet potato fries and the cider.

I have we had anything but amazing food and stellar service here. The only rough part is parking but there is a small free lot about 300 yards down front street. I am a fan of the Saberjets burger. Thick cut bacon and Caramelized onions on their sourdough buns. This is hands down my favorite burger I have ever had. Incredibly good. I also recommend any of the Santa Cruz ales.

The waiter was very helpful in helping me select something, cause i had never been here. He suggested the sliders and avocado fries which were both amazing. I also had a raspberry iced tea which wasnt pre sweetened awesome! To top it all off i was surprised at how fast my order came out, especially considering how busy the place was. five stars for sure. ILL BE BACK!
