Oh gosh this place gives me mixed feelings. I went there for lunch and the line was out the door, which is usually a good thing but not in this instance. After waiting in line forever, I got to order which was strange since the employees seemed overly-enthusiastic about the food. Anyways, I get to the cashier and the food seemed expensive, but at the time, I didnt mind since this place came highly recommended by a friend of mine. Now this is where things go downhill. Thing number one, there is no seating. As I was walking away from the cashier I look upon the tables and see that none of them were open. So I had to stand around awkwardly holding my drink and I got in the way of the other people there since there is no convenient place to stand and wait for a table. There were no staff members trying to help me find a place to eat which really sucked. Thing number two, the experience was awful. I guess this restaurant wants to try to attract kids to their restaurant for some reason. I dont know why since the menu definitely is not designed for children. I mean clearly this place would be mainly for health conscious adults, so one would think that they would focus on marketing themselves as a healthy alternative to other options. Well to my surprise, the store was throwing a free kids party on the outdoor seating area of the restaurant along with a promotion that children eat free. I dont know if they thought this one through since the children made it truly miserable to be there. And of course with my luck, the only open table in the restaurant just so happened to be outdoors next to the loud, violent, rampaging kids who, for the love of God, could not stop screaming. I can not stress how horrible this made the experience. My ear dums were bleeding by the time I got my food, which was a long time, and it was impossible to talk to anyone. Thing number three, the food is expensive. The bill for me and the three other people I was with totaled $60! In addition to that the food portions are extremely small and definitely not enough if you are hungry. And finally, thing number four, the food wasnt anything spectacular. It just tasted like a regular sandwich, it didnt blow me away but it didnt make me want to spit it out. It was so unspectacular that I actually am going to recommend that if you are considering eating here, pass up on it until they can fix all of their problems. If you are looking for alternatives, I highly suggest going to Urban Plates, which is right down the street from this place, or going into whole foods, which is in the same shopping center, and getting something there. These two places are similar in price but offer more and better food in an environment that is actually pleasant to be in. In summary: -The seating situation is extremely poor when its crowded -It was a horrible experience for my ears -The food is overpriced -There are better places to eat for a similar or less amount of money

3.5 stars. Mendo mendo mendo... How I desperately wanted to love you. Absolutely love the Weho location and was so looking forward to trying the new location in La Jolla. First off, upon entering the restaurant I was a little taken back by the corral I found myself stuck in. On this occasion, mendo had an order taker that was taking orders remotely in front of a giant menu board. This was a bit frustrating for several reasons. Not only did I feel cramped in a pin while I waited to order, but I really didnt understand why people were ordering before they were able to sample anything. One of Mendocino s draws that separates them from the competition is that they allow patrons to try various items before purchasing. I asked one of the workers if this was still the case at this location because I didnt understand why they were taking orders in an area where you could not see or sample any of the food. She said they would offer samples and that I could change my order again later if I tasted something I liked. She insisted that the additional order taker was helping to make things faster however her and another cashier waited patiently while only one person was taking all of the orders. In my opinion it definitely was not making anything faster. Furthermore, the Weho location had their meats simmering in the front in large pots, adding to the home cooked vibe. This location had more of an assembly line feel as they routinely processed each order. Ultimately the workers were nice but the food didnt match the value. Ordered the not so fried chicken sandwich, the short rib special, a side of pork belly, and a split side of potatoe salad and romesco shells, for about $35. Chicken sandwich was good but more of a salad in a bun, sides were tasty but the pork belly and short rib were dry. Pork belly was extremely dry and barely even edible. I may try them again but for the price there are plenty of better options.

I love the food and the people are super nice. The only problem that Ive encountered is with food preparation. Today, I ordered a side but it wasnt included in the bag when I got home. Many other times, there were errors in a request, e.g., no cheese or no pesto. The most errors egregious error was when the sandwich I ordered (prosciutto and chicken), the prosciutto still has the wax paper stuck on it, which I actually ate because I was eating in the car. Overall, the quality of the food and the great people keep me coming back. But check your orders. Dont eat wax paper like me.

Food is incredible. I would take a hard look at the "avant garde" ordering and payment practices, to see if there arent ways to simplify them, instead of making them more complex and inscrutable than a traditional dining experience. 1. Order with person on tablet 2. Pay second person 3. Get "buzzer" that doesnt buzz 4. Order is delivered to table with non-buzzing buzzer by server who cant find the table I have limited experience working in a restaurant, but I can see two glaring issues here. (pay the person with the tablet, replace buzzer with numbered flag) Great food though

Pros: Ive never experienced such a nice and sincere staffs here. Sandwich and Soup/Salad combo is a good option. Try Delicious meal with precious people! Cons: Tasting food is right after ordering, and that point was a little bit disappointed. Maybe before ordering the meal is better to taste and decide the menue.(hope to be improved) And waiting time is quite long(two cashiers). Price is around 10 dollars per one person.(moderate)

Very fresh and tasty food....you can taste the quality. Eat outside the box with them...all their food is extremely tasty and even if it sounds different, it tastes like youre grandmas cooking. I hate beets but I love their beet salad. i am in charge of catering for my work and have introduced our San Diego office to this place and Everyone loves it! The food speaks for itself, but the employees make this place get 5 stars by me.

Wasnt very impressed with the food and prices are a bit steep for what you get. $12 gets you a sandwich with no sides or drink. The salads were pretty disappointing, the asian salad tasted like something that came out of a grocery store salad kit and also looked liked it too, no presentation. Most tables were dirty when I was there. The staff and service are great.
