Board & Brew is a great combination whether your having a beer after surfing or eating off the carving board with a beer. They both make sense here literally. When you think of Del Mar your first instinct is seafood, high end establishments, romantic views. None of that is true here. A Deli unlike most youve seen this is a sandwich deli. Places like Tip Top or true delicatessen do dishes, serve customers for their home and sandwichs. Often times when you open things in California some expect sprouts, avocado, exotic items that sometimes detract from the simply beauty and flavors of a well made artisan style dish. Most all the menu is not the case. Yes they have avo and sprouts and whatever you want on a sandwich, but what makes this places special is the fresh bread and the amazingly flavorful meats. The portions are not lacking and most are good with a half. Salads are big and classic. Fresh with homemade sauces that in fact go good with everything, except maybe the soups and just the beer. The soups arent too creamy, but are hearty. Nothing too chunky or too stew like. Fresh hand chopped veggies and homemade beef, chicken and veggie stocks are used. They have a pretty decent selection of beer, both craft, micro and national macros. Tons of local stuff, but honestly its pretty laid back, but not a place you want to throw a bunch of them back. I drive the 10 miles and take 70 minute lunches to come here because its that damn good.

Everyone raved about how good these sandwiches were and I was excited when I got a job right next to it. I only had it a couple of times the first year I was there and honestly wasnt too impressed. I ordered only the turkey sandwiches on the left side of the menu because they were a bit cheaper. The orange sauce was good, but I wasnt really loving it. I actually started getting sandwiches at the deli across the street for a while because I felt like their sandwiches were better and cheaper. Finally one day, I overheard the cashier recommending a first time customer to try the hot sandwiches. Curious, I ordered one of the hot beef sandwiches, I think it was the Beef Dip? It was amazing! I then tried the other hot sandwiches and finally see what everyone was raving about. Honestly, the cold turkey sandwiches are good once in a while on a hot day if you want something fresh, but if you want a delicious sandwich, get the hot sandwiches on the right side of the menu!

Ive been to Board and Brew a few times and have not been disappointed. They have great sandwiches. And they dont skimp on the ingredients. It takes effort to finish one of their sandwiches. Ive had the baja beef (those jalapenos creep up on you), the tub o tuna (freakin huge tuna sandwich), and the boardmaster (gotta get the sauce on the side). They all are good. I have to knock a star off for the size. The place is always packed during lunch and there are not too many tables. You can always call ahead and get it to go, take it to the beach and have your lunch there. One of the perks of being in Del Mar. Most of the time, lunch is packed with Torrey Pines high school kids. So if they annoy you, try not to go there during that time. But if youre craving it, you can always call ahead, pick up your order, and take it to the beach.

Bold move, putting Brew right there in the name, especially in San Diego of all cities. When I think brew, San Diego has me conditioned to expect style-appropriate glassware, a chalkboard of variety... at the very least a few locals on tap, right? Last I was there, Board and Brew had a fridge tucked in the corner with a few brand name Mexican beers and one IPA. Disappointing. Thats alright, whatever enjoyment I lost from having to drink a staling IPA out of the bottle was replenished by simple post-surf satisfaction. In the end there is nothing better than walking straight out of the water on 11th, then ordering a sandwich and a thirst quencher before my hair even has time to dry. No better way to end the afternoon. You should try it yourself next time youre in the area.

One of the best sandwich places in San Diego. Their secret sauce is to die for. The line and wait during lunch time can get mega long. So, if youre short on time, call in ahead of time to order by phone. My personal favorite sandwich is the "Chicken Club." But I can get down with the "Turkato." Order and pay at the counter. Seat yourself. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Limited parking on street, because Del Mar is a busy and popular tourist attraction. Parking also available in a small parking lot behind Board & Brewing as well. The orange secret sauce is worth the hype. I recommend getting extra. Chips and drinks available upon request for a cost. Great location, only a few blocks from the beach and from Del Mars famous 15th Street.

Food is very good. Never had good service tho. First couple of times the cashier would always tell me they were out of the sauce i wanted on my sand which, then i asked the cook and he said he had it. In addition, I usually have to repeat my order several times to the innatentive cashier. Thats all fine except the last time i accidently left a couple of bucks by the register as i was fumbling for exact change. I then went outside and throught the window saw the guy walk off with it. I went in after putting my food down and asked if i left two small bills by the register and he said that i didnt. So despite the good food im not going back

I always see a line at this place, so people around here seem to love it. I had the Italian with bacon and avo and it was pretty good. The special sauce was very special indeed... Not sure what they put in it, but I could use some more. I originally gave this place a 4 star, but after trying the tub o tuna, I had to give it 5 stars. The sandwich is huge and adding the special sauce to it made it just that much better! I also recommend dipping the bbq chips in the sauce.

The sandwiches were very standard to me. They do give a large portion of meats, but the sandwich itself did not stand out. The sauce that comes with the sandwiches does add a lot to it, but it does feel very heavy. There is quite a long line during the lunch hour on weekdays, but you can call to place your order beforehand and just pick it up when you arrive. Seating is also difficult to find sometimes.

This place has simple sandwiches done right with the most amazing sauce. I could eat here any day of the week. However, this original location looks a lot more run down than the other half dozen locations around San Diego county. If you need to visit the original and get the hole in the wall experience, go for it. Otherwise, get your Tub O Tuna with some secret sauce at one of their other shops nearby.

I got the Turkado, which my cousin recommended. Great sandwich, generous with their sandwich filling. Avocado was mashed rather than sliced which surprised me, but was still tasty (perhaps moreso?). Filling but not heavy, reasonably priced. A little sad I didnt know about this place earlier, but it is a tiny bit of a drive out of La Jolla so even if I had known about it I may not have been a regular.
