Solid three stars. When it was good, it was good. When it wasnt, it wasnt. Bonus: BBQ sauce kept in a hot pot so you get as much as you want and its always warm. Good: the chicken breasts are great. Crispy skin, good flavor, still moist. We all agreed that the sides were outstanding. Coleslaw, potatoes salad, macaroni salad. Also the people working there were great. The woman behind the counter offered to let us taste the chili when we werent sure if it would be too hot for my wife, and she came by to make sure everything was good with out meal even through its mostly a self service place. The OK: the try tip was really fatty and it arrived with cold spots. That said where it was warm and not super fatty has a good flavor. The pork ribs were also good on flavor but were more like rib tips and cross cut bones then a traditional straight bone cut and also very fatty. The garlic bread would have fallen under the good section but every piece we got was burned a bit. The bad: We didnt like the pulled pork. Instead of a sweet sauce it came soaked in a savory sauce that completely covered up any meat flavor. I like savory sauces, but this one just didnt do it for me and the fact that it completely covered up any flavor of the pork just make it stringy chewy sauce.

I was living up in Hoopa which is quite a ways from Eureka and was craving beef ribs. So someone told me about this place and I went to it and ordered beef ribs. I was very specific with them that I had a pork allergy and not to mix my food with any utensils that was used with pork. They definitely seem to get an attitude about me asking this request. Right there I should have walked out, but I didnt. When I got the ribs home and started to eat them they were about the driest ribs I have ever eaten. They had almost no meat on them whatsoever and what meat was on there was completely dry and I am positive it was done on purpose since I asked them to be careful about the pork thing. And they werent exactly cheap either. I can not recommend this place to anyone. Poor attitudes and poor food with high prices. They do not deserve your business.

I just had to leave a review since this ui doesnt allow a direct response to the person who most recently reviewed this place... You got it wrong on both counts. The meat is grilled. on the big bbq pit/grill thing. outside. behind the restaurant. How did you not see that? Or did you only look at the indoor grill where they finish the food to order? The bbq sauce is not from a bottle. It is some sort of "secret family recipe" thing. I dont have proof (sources from marketing), but I think, unless some disgruntled employee comes forward with a shocking expose, you would need to present proof to the contrary. If you didnt like the food, just say so. Dont make up bullshit. Also, I like the food here. Yes, the sandwiches get soggy if you dont eat them right away... I eat them right away.

to the people that disrespect porter street, i am sorry. I would do anything to eat the food given. Home made BBQ sauce, home made chili from all the drippings. Great flavor. Great bread, Great sandwiches, great meat. I am not a rich person, but i save up so i can experience this once in a while and every time it is worth every penny. I love the "heart attack" sandwich. extra bbq sauce and a bread bowl with their chili. I have also had their chicken, ribs, tri-tip clam chowder and cole slaw, not one complaint from me a true user and reviewer from the restaurant. the people giving bad reviews have fake names and are obviously mad at someone not the food.

Had the worst customer experience all time here. I think the staff was to stoned to actually cook my food. Ordered my food and watched 3 employees chat for 30 minutes and not do anywork. I went up to ask if my order was done and the lady tried to take my order again. I walked out cause it made me so grumpy. Wasted money and time. They should give me a free meal with that terrible of an experience.

The food was not BBQ. It was bland at best, cooked indoors not on any grill at all. BBQ sauce was from a bottle, I guess thats the "BBQ" All these years and I thought they served BBQ. Served on a piece of paper with plastic utensils, paper cups for drinks, chili and salad in styrofoam containers, all in all, really bad, all of it. How do they stay in business? The bill? Over $50. Just horrible.

BBQ? Really? Its mainly just plain jane cooked meat with a side of sauce... DO NOT order form here if you are short on time. I placed an order at 11:40 to be picked up, not anything special, just 3 sandwiches, and they didnt have it ready until 12:40!!! I got an entire 5 minutes to eat before I had to be back to work! If you really want Porter Street just go to Arcata...

Probably the best Barbecue around. A relaxed staff gives the eatery a homely feeling with delicious ribs, sandwiches and barbecue sauce. Some of the meat is a little too cooked for my liking (I like my tritip rare or near rare) as well as maybe a little too salty but all-in-all, definitely worth the price and the trip to get some southern comfort food.

The chick at the counter was giving us attitude. I asked if we could have a taste of potato salad and she said no but it is homemade. I said, "that doesnt mean it doesnt taste like s**t." We left, attitude from the chick was like we were wasting her time because we had never been in there before and we were trying to decide. Will find another place.

Without a doubt the worst pork ribs I have ever had. Boiled or something. No flavor, spice, char. I ordered a rack to take home. Did not eat but one half a rib. Wasted 20 plus bucks. They obviously dont care about what they put out. I will never go back. Plus the place is dirty all over. Check out the grease in the kitchen. Wish I had a picture.

I have literally seen a guy take crap in the pit BBQ grill out front while sitting at the light, they must have pissed of a homeless zombie for not letting him go indoors. Not good BBQ at all either way, but watching the dude pooping on the unprotected grill really ruined it for me.

I had the small Tri-Tip sandwich and it was packed with delicious meat! They have a bar where you and add all the toppings you want plus a warm pot with great BBQ sauce. Friendly staff and clean seating. You can sit and watch the traffic on 101 and enjoy your food and good music.

Food was awful. Possible food poisoning for both myself and my wife. I had gone here a year ago and the food was amazing. This time it was horrible and dirty. Ribs were so dry get were almost jerky. Tri tip was disgusting. Pulled pork was watery and flavorless. Never going back

This place is awesome. I love Porter St. BBQ. The food is great they have warm bbq sauce. The Tri tip sandwich is cooked to order and served on garlic bread roll, very very good. The folks working there were polite, professional and friendly too. All in all a great place.
