This spot was pretty legit. I spent a few months in Oklahoma around some fine BBQ, and this stacks up. Ive also been in areas with some horrible "BBQ" (e.g. Maine) and this is NOT bad BBQ. Overall, I can say youll get some quality food and your moneys worth, I had the beer cheese brisket sandwich with beer cheese grits. In retrospect, I got way too much cheese for this meal. The sandwich was SMOTHERED in cheese. The beer cheese grits was just right though. I wish the sandwich had more meat, but for all I know, it was hidden in the gobs of cheese. The sauces were fun to try. I liked he Kentucky Single Batch and North Carolina Spicy Vinegar the best. They have a sauce for all tastes (5 total + 1 secret sauce you must request) I had Stu as a server. He was awesome, as were the rest of the staff. He checked on my frequently and made good conversation with me and all his tables. The staff here is pretty fun and upbeat. I want to go back and try something different; something not completely doused in cheese. Its worth your time to try this place out too.

Some tasty food options, friendly and inviting staff. Weve been twice on visits to the city. We love barbecue (especially my husband), and have had it in many places across the US. We enjoyed brisket, pulled pork, and half chicken found them tender and of good flavor. Sides we enjoyed were the corn pudding, flavor that reminded me of real homestyle, close to what we grew up with, moist corn bread. Tasty mac and cheese, per my aunt. The greens and the green beans were ok, just not as flavorful. Didnt enjoy the pulled chicken, felt it was a bit dry. Didnt enjoy the flavor of their version of cheese gritts. Enjoyed the range of sauces. Great staff, cheerful, pleasant, attentive at register and within the dining room. Place is very casual, chairs, wood tables, gravel parking lot...seating a bit packed together. Tables were cleaned in timely manner. Nice place to try if youre in the area

Its your typical run down dive, greasy spoon is the foundation of the local flare restaurant. BBQ is good not great, nothing special just good. The sides are the same, great fresh cut fries, good sweet tea and good BBQ sauce. Only real issue is portion sizes are smaller than others ( I wont promote others names to be fair). Typically, I expect portions in the dives to be better than the places that have upgraded buildings, staff, locations! If the business isnt spending on higher rents, higher location costs and higher costs for staff, uniforms or table service than they typically give you more product. You usually pay for better digs or more food but here you get run down digs and smaller portion sizes. Just my opinion. I was in the restaurant business owner and manager for 17 years. Not your average customer.

This place is dirrrrrty the floor was filthy. The chairs were dirty. The tables were dirty.a the walls were painted with dry erase paint, and people have written on the walls and ceiling. The bathroom is a one hole deal, no fan, Torn screen with a note that said fix the screen and no flies. My issue is not their food. Its cleanliness and pride of ownership. It doesnt have to be that dirty in there. The food was good. Probably as good as most people rant and rave. Couple your meal with an Ale8 , it will settle your stomach nicely before you eat. All in all would aingo here again? I dont know. Take out is fine. But for a place to drop a brown dookie and relax for an hour? Nah Ill look for someplace cleaner, this place is about as clean as a tool rental or hardware store.

The choices of sauces were awesome. Service was great, very very attentive. Love the choice of sides. I got the pulled chicken and brisket, beer cheese grits and greens. My meats were cold, however and really, I couldnt taste any smoke flavor. Im not sure if they were supposed to be or not. My husbands ribs were hot. Beer cheese grits were just ok. Not alot of flavor. Greens were awesome but salty. Also, the menu said sliced brisket but it was left stringy so when trying to cut it to eat it, I got lots of the paper liner used in the bottom of the plastic basket serving container in each bite. Prices were very reasonable but all in all I was disappointed.

READ THIS BEFORE EATING HERE. Loved Red State the first couple of times. Stopped there last week on a motorcycle ride( 85 miles) and was disappointed. Busy...but not swamped. Good SERVICE. Food,?? Pulled pork was cold.... Fries were hard, burnt and aged. Slaw was old tasting. All our table....6. Were not happy with the food. Gonna cost them in the long run . Give them one more try. WOW....POSTED THIS REVIEW ON ONE OF THEIR POST....AND INSTEAD OF RESPONDING POSITIVELY....THEY DELETED MY REVIEW, DEFRIENDED ME AND BLOCKED ME. Couldnt care less....but what an UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS RESPONSE!!

The owner, a sweet old lady, was working the register and being my first time there i asked for recommendations. She could not have been more right! I got what she recommended, that being a two meat plate, the brisket and pulled pork with greens amd baked beans. Everything was proportionate to the price and worth the money, delicious. The brisket was so tender it almost falls apart on the fork, try it with the Carolina Mustard, sounds strange but i highly recommend it, you wont be disappointed! Wait staff very attentive and the food arrived so fast I barely had time to sit down.

One of the best BBQ spots in the Bluegrass. All of the food is good but the ribs are their shining star. Great sides to go along with it. The mac and cheese have just the right amount of pepper in them to have a little bite. They have several BBQ sauces that cover different regional styles. Memphis Sweet, Texas Spicy, South Carolina Mustard, North Carolina Spicy Vinegar, Alabama Show Horse, and their own special Kentucky Small Batch (my personal favorite). Whether you try the food at their restaurant or when they have a food-truck somewhere out you cant go wrong.

This is the kind of authentic home style Kentucky BBQ shack we wanted. Prices are great. They have nice craft beers. Pulled chicken and brisket were awesome. The sides like beer cheese were disgusting but we didnt care. They just werent for us and where else can you try that stuff anyway. The peach bread pie was apparently home made and great and came with bourbon balls ice cream which was great. The location is in front of a pretty gross dumpy motel surrounded by beautiful farmland. The motel just added to the Kentucky back roads ambience so we loved it all.

Awesome out-of-the-way place with exceptional service. We were traveling through town late looking for somewhere to have dinner and somehow bumped into this place. They were ready to close But they accommodated us beautifully with lots of recommendations and refreshingly pleasant young man as our waiter. Six choices of awesome barbecue sauce and the brisket and pulled pork were amazing. My husband kept ordering more food and we were sad we were only there for one day or we wouldve come back the next day. You cant go wrong at this place

Use to be great. After today I will never return. To start the flys were so bad I spent half my time trying to keep them off me and my food. I get the 2 meat plate. My ribs are cold. Not room temperature cold. Cold like they came out of the fridge and brought them to me. My pulled pork was more like pork fat. Basically a big piece of fat hidden by a little bit of pulled pork. Never had a problem before but them sending a plate out looking like this is a joke. I will be finding a new BBQ place.
