Fresh, creative seafood dishes and the best sushi in SGV. Easily stands up to Downtown and westside restaurants with a Japanese chef with more than 50 years of experience at the helm. You can taste the different influences of Chef Hayakawas long career in every bite- from the most superb rice surely from his days working in Japan, to the buttery sauces used in sophisticated dishes like Red Snapper in Saffron Sauce from his days at Matsuhisa. This restaurant is unique with a relaxed, intimate setting, and a large, yet high-quality menu thats good for dates and dinner out with the family alike. (Seafood for the adults, chicken teriyaki for the kids!) I particularly love the fact that there are no televisions in the restaurant- a truly unique quality these days. You cant miss with a trip to Hayakawa. Try the Fresh Salmon Kelp Roll, Shrimp Tempura Handroll, and the Peppered Salmon Sushi.

Tonight was my first visit here. What a pleasant experience! A very friendly woman greeted me. I told her that I found their restaurant by googling "popular restaurants in Covina, Ca." She was interested and so I showed her the search and ratings. The atmosphere is very relaxing with beautiful Japanese decor. The salmon with teriyaki was delicious and tender. It was a generous serving. It came with a salad, miso soup, rice, and a small appetizer, noodles in broth. Since I was there on a Sunday night about 45 min before closing, it wasnt busy. There was just a quiet couple and me. So, if you go on a Friday or Saturday night, it might be busier. The quality is worth the price. Personally, I recommend it for singles, couples or small groups; probably not for a typical family with young kids on a budget. I will definitely visit again. Its highly recommended!

Bad Food with Bad Service , the Place smells musty and old, the fish is never fresh i have no clue how that have an A rating , Service is very Poor, the Old man " Kazu " at the sushi bar is very rude and obnoctious, he is always mad and worst of all he doesnt know how to make a Hand Roll .i orderd Yellow Tail Belly Sashimi , i got left overs Yellow Tail , i ordered a cold Bottled ( light blue color ) of sake ,the Host ( Kazus wife ) Keeps empty Bottles in the kitchen and she filles em out of the cheap draft cold sake to save money, she got mad when i told her to open the 2nd bottle of sake in front of me . Bottom line Fake Korean wana be Semi-japanese not Even close to Sushi Place .....

OMG! The chirashi sushi is the best I have ever had. Real authentic Japanese food. The waitress and hostess are very friendly and the food is to die for. This is the place to come if you want REAL Japanese food. The chirashi sushi has TWO layers of variety of fish! Everyone else only puts one but this place just piles it high! Beautiful, flavorful fish...not just tuna and salmon but everything.. halibut, yellow tail, shrimp, marinated mackerel, and more. I always go for the lunch special which includes miso soup and amuze-buche.

Traditional Japanese restaurant in every sense (with a hint of , from the decor and attire of the staff, to the way sushi dishes are prepared. Quality is superior (at least for sushi), and the prices reflect accordingly. Therefore, I wouldnt recommend this restaurant as a quick fix when youre simply craving your California Rolls and Teriyaki Chicken- that would almost be doing the chef and your wallet a disservice. Service is excellent, the seafood is top-notch, and the dishes are artfully presented.

I am here a couple times a month and there is no comparison locally! Service is good and Fish/Sushi is outstanding. Its not a 2.99 sushi on a boat place so dont come expecting that. Quality is key with sushi and they are A+. I base all sushi places on the easiest thing to get right and thats plain old salmon and theirs melts in your mouth.

Been here for the first time in about 15 years, so my palate has admittedly changed when it comes to sushi. They have a competent itamae and a good selection of both specialty rolls, and sashimi grade sushi. Uni was very fresh, saba and engawa were also good. But it is not the best available in the area. Still a great bite to eat!

By far the best quality sushi i have ever had. I have had sushi at some of the best sushi restaurants in the USA and Japan and their quality and service ranks up there. NO gimiki, diced, roles here, just awsome fish.

The sushi is always superb and the wide style of other dishes is incredible. The staff is lively and warm and make every trip to the restaurant special. Kazu Hayakawa is truly a master at his craft.

Sushi here is absolutely the best as they are Zagat rated. The chef is very friendly and trained at Matsuhisa restaurant in Beverly Hills. Try their Seared Toro(Tuna Belly). It is exceptionally good.

You have to try the off-menu peppered salmon. Its seared perfectly and my absolute favorite! Ive had at one other restaurant and it was no where as good as Restaurant Hayakawas!

This restaurant is a hidden gem located in a nondescript strip mall. Service is always friendly, and I always enjoy the food.

The fish was fresh, but not enough of a variety and a bit expensive. The restaurant seems cosy but overall not happy.
