Im from DC/northern VA and we dont have a lot of authentic, good Mexican food around. My favorite place in the DC-VA-MD area to get tacos is this place called La Mexicana Bakery. La Mexicana Bakery offers carne asada, chicken, carnitas, chorizo, and fish taco plates served with cilantro, onions, radishes, lemon, and red or green sauces of your choice. One of the more authentic places in DC-VA-MD area to get Mexican food, especially tacos. Fonda Don Chon blows La Mexicana Bakery away by a long, long shot. Mexican food in VA pales in comparison to Mexican food in California. I ordered a taco plate at Fonda Don Chon, similar to the taco plate I order at La Mexicana Bakery. Fonda Don Chons taco plate included 3 soft tacos, with your choice of carne asada, carnitas, or chicken, topped with guacamole, cilantro, diced onion, along with a side of rice and beans. All for $9.99. As soon as I saw the plate before me, I knew it was going to be delicious. First off, the carnitas were much more tender than the carnitas at La Mexicana. Secondly, guacamole! Guacamole on tacos is so delicious. I wish I could get guacamole on tacos all the time. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The rice and beans were a great addition to the taco plate. Basically, everything about my plate at Fonda Don Chon was so, so good. I cant wait to go back the next time I come to California. A bonus: service was fast and friendly.

Yesterday was my second time eating at this establishment, I was in the area and decided to stop by and grab dinner with my significant other . It took a couple of minutes just to get our names on the list, the hostess (who was very nice) said the wait would be 15-20 minutes, so we took a walk around the shopping area. Im very punctual so I came back well before the 15 minutes only to find out they called our name....a little frustrating but it happens I guess, this is where the hostess (the taller one) was great as she put us back on the list and had us seated in no time, I wish I wouldve caught her name because she was nice and the type of employee that needs to be recognized. Were finally seated, I got the tampiqueña and she got the chicken enchiladas. They food was great and the chips and salsa they provide are GREAT, my food definitely had a home made taste and I loved that, the only thing I can say didnt make my experience amazing was the fact that we waited for 20-30 minutes for a table and felt rushed to finish our meal. I understand that they needed the table because the line started to accumulate again but being rushed is a horrible feeling. Im giving it 4 stars because the food is good and the hostess was nice, if youre still reading this make sure you have time to kill or else youll be solely disappointed.

The place is not that bad, the food is great and for being in a hidden area, its great but the manager kills it. No accountability or customer service skills from this guy. I suggest you keep tabs of the prices when you order as he does, has and continues to change the price on you if you dont pay attention. The place has potential but this guy will scare of loyal customers. The staff is great compared to him. Wouldnt be surprised if it gets shut down by the Better Business Burrow or the city or new management takes over, going for the latter. If you want great Mexican food and dont mind the lines; suggest you call ahead on weekends or holidays, and are willing to deal with a jerk, head over, its worth the trouble. Remember to check your order before you leave if you order by phone, you wouldnt believe how many times you get charged for wrong orders and the guy tries not to fix it or give you back the money... Enjoy!

La Fonda Don Chon is among the very best mexican restuarants in the east ssan Gabriel Valley, with best home made corn tortillas i have ever tasted. The beef soup (cocido)-beef,literally falls off the bone with a fresh tender juice taste that that is surrounded with a full taste of perfectly cooked vegetables. As well, the enchiladas are full with high-grade cheeze, whereby the home made red chile is mild so to enjoy each morsel that leaves the palate begging for the next bite. Not as superbly good my mamas cooking ,but truly a 2nd runner up! they certaining do hold bragging rights . The romantic trio guitars sets the ambiance for friends/family you would like to impress! Its he deal! ask for Rodrigo,or alvaro, their smiles and bienvenidos are infectious! tell them your friend Lalo sent you! Bravo and simply, ole !!!

DO NOT SUPPORT BUSINESS. I brought my family in for sunday brunch just to find out how the owner runs his business. I was charged adult price for my 8 yr old niece for brunch. There was alot of us so the bill was already high. Ask the OWNER i repeat the OWNER to charge her as a child since my niece didnt really eat and i brought a group in. The OWNER made such a big deal about it and said " its not about the money its about ur niece eating". Im sorry but as an OWNER of a restaurant sometimes one time acceptions should be made. The GREEDY AND HEARTLESS owner lost my family and I business since they do not know the meaning of a family restaurant. So if u have a daughter, niece or sister. Think of them being treated this way. DO NOT EAT HERE AND SUPPORT THERE BUSINESS.

(Customer Service Needs To Improve) I took friends to this restaurant for lunch. The over all experience was good. The food was excellent with a variety of entrees to choose from. The hostess were friendly and the severs were promptly attentive. The only negative experience I had is, the resturant managment would not accommodate our group for separate checks. They have a sign posted inside the restaurant by the cashier that explicity says one check per table. So, if you plan to frequent this restaurant with a group of friends, be prepared to pay for everyones meal in one check. Despite my request for separate checks, the resturant would not acquiesce my requested accommodation. It is for this reason I give this restaurant a 3 star rating.

Unfortunately this place doesnt take reservations, so plan on waiting 20-25 minutes for seating. TOTALLY WORTH THE WAIT! Sunday Brunch has a little for everyone...salad bar, fruit, menudo (with all the fixings), chicken fajitas, cheese enchillada, tamales, cheese deep fried mini tacos, sopas, green chili pork, other meat & cheese dishes, sweat bread, filled churros, fried bananas, fried chicken, fried potatoes, shrimp, crab salad, cevichi....and plenty of other goodies. Service was great. Especially the fresh corn and flour tortillas delivered the minute you sit down. Drinks kept coming & regular coffee or mexican coffee is your choice.

We came here because of the ratings on google maps. At first I really thought it was great. Chips and salsa, guacamole and the service. Our cups where refilled very quickly but my second refill had cheese and rice floating in it. When I told the manager he grabbed it and walked away before I could finish my sentence. The waiter which was great brought me a new one and it had dried food inside glass. My son also ordered a burger and fried which came without any fixings just the bread, patty and cheese. The mexican food the rest of us had was ok but Pacos in Arcadia on Foothill Blvd. Is way better.
