29.99$ for dinner ( drinks are not included )is a little pricey for buffet style sushi as well as many other Asian faire options at relatively mediocre quality . It s tough crowd for a restaurant located in Irvine when there are plenty of other restaurants serving similar cusine This latest time we went there our party made a big mistake. We forgot to make a reservation for around 6pm on a Saturday night for a group of 8. That led to a wait of over 45 minutes. Makino has pretty limited seating which does serve them well as the lines for the buffets stay short and they always have lots of food at the buffet . Overall I recommend makino for large parties (with a reservation) and if you are actually starving

just had diner there last night. The restaurant is no longer as good as they initially started. The snow crab legs smelled bad on the outside. The variety of sushi all tasted the same, all had similar ingredients, just decorated differently. Each of them had a large chunk of cucumber in it, no avocado anywhere. Many of the dishes were too dry. All cake desserts tasted the same, just different colors, all same ingredients. The place is too small, only four islands of food including dessert. It is not worth the $30+ we had to spend there including the tips. I would have had all and better sushi I can eat at Taiko for this price. Our family will never go to this buffet anymore.

Great seafood, hot dishes, dessert, and salad. Watch the open hours! They are closed between lunch and dinner. I see others rate this differently but this place is a favorite for my wife and me, especially since its around the corner from the airport and very welcome after a flight. Staff is very cordial from welcome through plate pickup and departure. Place is clean, food well prepared, huge diversity. Yes, at $25 per person this is more than other places but its All You Can Eat seafood, of course it costs more than common Asian buffets.

Just a slight bump up in quality from most all you can eat sushi buffet. They did a pretty good job at sticking to Japanese themed food with a decent variety of things people would be happy with. They had a whole section with a good variety of rolls and even had a hand roll station where you could have a hand roll made to order. They had a noodle station where you could have either pork or soy based ramen as well as udon. Their desert section was a lot better than most places with a very well cared for chocolate fountain.

Me and my son were very excited to eat here, it was 8:30pm and we called to ask when they stopped seating just to make sure. They are supposed to be open until 9:30pm. Were arrived shortly before 9pm after driving for 25 minutes only to be turned away. They said it was slow, and that they were closing early. We told them that we had just called them, only to be given a poor excuse. "Oh I thought you meant tomorrow night". Really? I am dissapointed with this establishment, and will be taking my business elsewhere.

I was excited to try this place with my wife . Online stated , special holiday menu includes, Alaskan or Canadian Lobster, Prim Rib,Snow Crab , shrimp cocktail and more. This place had NONE of these items. It was a standard asain seafood buffet with average sushi. At $25 per person its DEFINITELY not worth it. Our waiteress was extremely nice and apologized for the misrepresentation and gave us $10 off the price, because of their service I gave them a 3 Star.

I really wish there were more seafood buffet places in OC. But for unknown reasons the others all got closed in the past couple of years. It seems that this is the only place I can go for seafood buffet in OC now. Anyway, the food is generally OK. But there are not so many varieties of different dishes. Sushi quality is just so so. If you go there for dinner, the crab legs are good. This is probably the only reason I would go there.

I came here at least 4 times over the past year and a half. Food quality has gone from good to mediocre. Today was the tipping point. Crab legs was extremely salty with barely any meat in it. Oysters were not fresh. Sushi was the only thing palatable but nowhere decent. Dont even get me started on the hot items and the 5-10min wait for ramen. Hope you guys can change up the menu or source better ingredients.

I found a dead COCKROACH in my coke, AFTER I drank it all AND asked for a refill and drank that one too. As I sat there freaking out, all the waitress could do is try and hug me and tell me how sorry she was and offer us closed water bottles and to comp. our meal. SMFH. I was really bummed because the food was good but I will never eat there or advise ANYONE to eat there either. Im so traumatized now..

Buena atencion y buen lugar, sin embargo la comida no es muy buena tienen mucha variedad sin embargo al tener tanta comida pierden la esencia de ella, el sushi es baboso.

The food was not worth the price. Not even close. My friend and I went there hoping for a reasonably good meal based on some of the reviews and were disappointed. In fact, there was a bug crawling on the counter by the sushi bar when I went over there. Would be more appropriate if the price was ~$15/each for the quality of food that was served.

My favorite Japanese food place at all times. This is the only place I like to eat sushi and warm Japanese food at. Good value. Staff can be rude at times, especially, when they do not like that you leave too much on your plate, which I do, as I like sushi, but I dont like to eat too much rice.

The sushi is always disappointing because it never tastes very fresh. The Ramen is okay, but the other hot food items are excessively greasy. Maybe my expectations are too high for an all-you-can-eat buffet, but I always dread it when friends or family members want to come to this restaurant.

To give anyone a solid review you need to try more than one dish, but also compare price with: service, range of food, quality and taste of offered cooked items. Thats why I gave them 5 Star rating! Great service, good quality and tasty food, great range of food for less money!

We came there on ThanksGiving night. Their closing time is 9:30pm but they started cleaning up kitchen around 8pm and refused to make fresh sushi. We had to eat whatever left over. Only a ramen chef was doing his fantastic duty. Very disappointed!!!!! Wont come again.

Sub par food. All the deep fried options where disgusting. Maybe due to old oil? I dont know but I would stay away. Their sushi was palatable, probably the best food option. Ayce for $25.... nah save your money and go to Ayce Korean BBQ. Service wasnt bad though.

A somewhat limited selection of Japanese foods. For the price, it was okay. I enjoyed the sushi section and the salads. Their desserts were nice as well with a lot of fresh fruits. I wouldnt come back though, as it wasnt anything special.
