Ive met some of my closest friends here. Ive written some of my best papers here. Great place to get work/schoolwork done here during the day. In the eve , its still good to get work done, but is busier for socialization reasons and special events like open Mic nights on Monday. Its like my 2nd home really... I feel like Melo Melo embodies what coffeehouses were originally intended for... a place for community to come together to discuss ideas. They dont have coffee(sometimes coffee kombucha!), but some delicious yerba mate. Kava is something to try if youve never had it. Its naturally relaxing and alcohol free. They rotate the kombucha on tap. There are an assortment of drinks to try out. If you want to meet genuine people or get work done (free wifi) in a chill environment, come through!

Staff are pleasant and informative. They offer a wide range of teas and kava drinks and are helpful in picking a good selection. For those who havent had kava, keep in mind you might not feel it the first few times. Also the stronger the drink the more it tastes earthy, sort of like wood pulp and dirt. You do get somewhat used to it though and theres plenty of sweet versions if you dont like the taste. The stronger versions do numb your tongue somewhat which is why this can be a fun place to bring people to try something new. Overall a great atmosphere and really chill setting.

Legit kava on the mainland. For the kava fan, they have different kinds in from time to time and it is served in the familiar half-coconut shell. For those who are new, there are different and sweeter flavors of kava and sides of pineapple bites to temper the flavor. The inside of the shop is beautiful and comfortable, the staff knowledgeable and friendly.. they even get live entertainment in and have movie nights (projected on the wall) sometimes! Lastly, they have yerba mate and locally grown/brewed kombucha... but they had me at "kava"^^

Amazing kava! I worked on an organic kava farm in Hawaii, and the fresh kava from here really took me back to those days. Really friendly kavatenders, very willing to chat with me Liam and Niko (and one other whos name escapes me) provided excellent service. Great atmosphere and nice location as well, I cant say enough good things about this place.... Kombucha on draught in 4 different and delicious flavors, highly recommended if you like that. Even kava chocolates! Pretty much my favorite place in Berkeley now. Go check it out!

One of my favorite places to chill. Wonderful late night atmosphere, for socialization or work. Kava itself is wonderfully weird, and something you only find in places like Berkeley. Tastes slightly strange, makes your mouth numb, increases awareness. Unlike alcohol, doesnt make you stupid. And as such its not so bad to use to work. Currently using it to write my thesis, when I want another space to work to feel invigorated. And nice hours for night people, open until midnight!

Atmosphere is great, and the staff was very friendly. Someone initiated a kava toast and I had no idea what was happening, but apparently everyone drinks and shouts "bula". I really enjoyed kombucha flight, which when I went had pomegranate, coffee, cola and a very mellow fruit which I forget the name now (from right o left in the picture). Would definitely recommend especially if youve never been to a kava bar before, as its a very unique experience

Such a great place. Chilled out vibes , cozy atmosphere. Unique offerings. I would recommend to kava veterans and newbies alike. The kava "cocktails" are so good. I cant make it taste this good when I make it at home. Also they serve flights of the local kombucha. Blood orange was the bomb. The bar does good drink specials and events too. Wish I lived closer to this spot- theres nothing similar where I am from.

Kava is an acquired taste, but like coffee, wine or beer you get used to it. I now prefer the Purist. Its so refreshing! Their kombucha rocks too! Cucumber lemon mint is my all time favorite! The environment is pretty chill, comfortable and most importantly clean. They have a library of games and books to keep you occupied or you can just bring your own form of entertainment.

First time trying Kava. The purist was a little earthy for my taste but the pineapple version helped cover the taste a bit. I felt my tongue get a little numb. The atmosphere here is super relaxing. The couches are great. They even put on some nature videos later in the day.

Good alternative to coffee as they serve drinks in coconut shells. They also have kombucha on tap. Some night they have a projector showing natural rainforest scenes. Parking is easy in this part of town.
