The past few weeks myself along with a group of friends frequently have met at Mad Oak to watch the Warriors basketball playoff games for food and drinks which are all good along with a great sporting event atmosphere. The only thing thats questionable is that they sometimes charge $20+ or either require an equivalency of a two drink minimum is charged for entry in which i feel is unfair because everyone do not drink alcoholic beverages even though myself and my group always patronize their food/bar services but are still subject to an entry fee to come in and eat/drink and watch the games..Which has made myself and others question if its even legal or admissible for a bar/restaurants to charge its patrons to watch NBA/NFL games, etc without there being some type of entertainment or private event taking place at the establishment. But in all fairness i plan to look into the legality of this matter. But until further investigation or either these type of practices are no longer exercised i WILL NOT be patronizing nor attending any sporting events held at Mad Oak Bar..

A super wonderful spot, located in the heart of Oakland, but the ambiance, the staff....the customer experience is lacking in a big way. Some examples: * the bartenders have no personality/warmth. i felt served but not welcomed. big difference. * there is no connection between the "pop up" restaurant that serves food and the bar, so you have to stand in two lines to get both. not fun. * regarding the pop up restaurant, there is no way to hear or see or be notified that your food is ready, so you have to time it yourself and go to get it...yet another hassle. * the bar is big and beautiful, but there are only 2 bts to a thirsty crowd..meaning you have to wait awhile for a drink. * there is no table service, which is really odd not to mention, stupid, since there are a lot of tables....(can you say, "lost revenue?") * but mostly, this is the kind of place that you walk into feeling great and leave, feeling just ok...because there is no love.

A decent happy hour. Nice roof top bar, A big glass of malbec for $6 cocktails for around $10. Went on a Sunday evening and it was very busy with lots of seating arrangements for different sized groups. The food was great and very reasonable priced. They serve smoked pork and beef. The beef ends were yummy as was the macaroni. The only thing is you cant buy drinks or food at the upstairs bar so going up and down the stairs is a bit annoying, oh added to that I tried to pay for a drink with notes and coins and was told by the bar tender that it was a "notes only policy" I didnt see any signs anywhere that said that so thought it totally pathetic that the bartender wouldnt take 8 quarters with ten dollars to make 12 dollars. Money is money as far as Im concerned and this is the first time Ive heard something so ridiculous. I was hardly paying for the whole bill in dimes!

How have I not written a review for one of my most favoritest bars?! I seriously love this place; its one of my go-tos. In the warmer months, the rooftop patio is definitely the spot to be. Nothing like sippin on your favorite drink in the open air, with nice ambient lighting from the christmas lights. This bar sure does gets packed on the weekends though. It might take a little longer to get a drink, but Ive experienced worse. All the bartenders Ive had serve me were awesome. No complaints there! If you havent checked out Mad Oak, what are you waiting for?!

Great place to watch your favorite team play. Great selection of craft beers and they a unique list of speciality drinks that are surprisingly good. Prices are reasonable. They also have an upstairs open deck that I would only suggest checking out if its a mild summer day. The reason for the four stars is because the food vendor located inside the bar operates on a different schedule than the sports bar which sucks because I like to munch while I drink.

Waited at the bar over half an hour for a drink before giving up and leaving. Bartender was avoiding us for sure and other people got served within 3 minutes. It wasnt even prime hours, I got there at 5:40pm on a Wednesday. My friend had a similar experience when she went. Everything else about the bar was great but I would have liked a drink. Would not recommend.

This place is cool and different. Definitely worth trying out. I would want to go here with a big group of friends and enjoy the ambiance. The music situation was a little weird. There was music playing when we got there but then all the sudden it was real low and we couldnt figure out where it was coming from. But other than that it was pretty cool.

Fun place! Good beer selection and the tacos served up fast make this a great evening starter spot on Friday/Saturday night. Ill be back for sure. Note: cell signal is bad here as its a 2 story structure sandwiched between giant 20 story concrete buildngs, so get on wifi or you will miss your txts with no data signal!

Mad Oak is a great addition to Oakland. Its a large space with two patios. Their cocktails are okay, but that have a large beer selection. The bar area can get really crowded and can take awhile to order drinks. They did add another bar on the upstairs deck, but its only open when its really busy.

Yummy pop-up LA street food outfit tucked into the corner by the bathrooms on the left of the bar (bacon jam fries!). Cool rooftop bar area too with tvs tuned to sports (just bring a jacket), cornhole, etc. Brought to you by the fellows that did Berkeleys Shattuck Down Low I believe.

Mad Oak is located in a previous underserved corner of downtown and is popular with the after work crowd. The place itself is great and the upper patio is awesome on a sunny day. I wish they rotated their beer taps more often but the bar is extensive and the bartenders knowledgeable

Met friends here for happy hour, and this place was happy! Packed with people. Awesome layout, indoor/outdoor. The bartender made my drink with care. I wasnt there to nosh, but it was absolutely distracting how wonderful the basic bar food smelled! Gotta go back to try it for real!

This a great bar, with friendly staff. There is enough space for large groups, and single tables for cute dates... I love that they break up the monotony with dart boards in the additional space. Mostly, because I won one of two games ;)

Drinks are great, draws a good crowd of fun people without attracting too much trouble (or maybe the bouncers are just good at filtering it out...). Food is good quality if a tiny bit pricy, but what good food isnt pricy late at night.

This is one of Oakland newer and larger bars. It features an outdoor area with an upstairs deck. There lots of TVs great for sporting events and just meeting your friends there. Its a cool and Casual crowd and everybodys pretty chill.

Great place to hang out with large parties. Lots of outdoor space. Great selection of beers, and craft cocktails. Their BBQ is really good, but their spicy sauce could use some more spice. The ID EVERYONE so make sure you have it.
