I went to the restaurant for the first time on my birthday. The people were very nice and even sang Happy Birthday to me. I ordered the fried chicken dinner, macaroni and cheese. When I received my chicken, I have a habit of going straight to the bone to check to see if its done. Well, need I say how I nearly threw up because there was dripping BLOOD all alongside the bone, not just a little red and it looked like it was cooked in old oil!! I immediately alerted the waitress, and expressed my disappointment with the bloody chicken. The macaroni and cheese came in this little white cup and the texture was something Id never seen before! It was HARD AND DARK, NOT CREAMY AND YELLOW like it should be, tasted old and awful! The waitress came back and told me the cook said the chicken just needed to rest and it was done, my response was, THIS WAS NOT MY FIRST RODEO WITH A CHICKEN and the chicken should not have to rest on my PLATE! I will never go back there, could have been a nice place to go listen to jazz on Sundays, but they ruined it for me!

My first visit was Mothers Day and my cousin and I arrived around 12:30am and were seated within 15 minutes, I was impressed! There were plenty of wait staff who were attentive. I ordered the turkey wing dinner with dresssing, cabbage and yams, my cousin ordered fired chicken with rice & gravy, collards and yams. The wings were tender and seasoned perfectly, however my cousins chicken was cooked perfectly but had no seasoning, salt to be exact. The veggies were prepared and seasoned well. The gravy on my dressing and my cousins rice was tasteless - no salt, no color and just unappealing. Chicken gravy is so easy to make from scratch and there are even some pretty tasty canned ones. More attention should be paid to making sure each dish is seasoned (salt & pepper) properly.

My friend and I went there last Sunday. We arrived right b4 thd Church crowd. Needless to say I had a cocktail and so did my friend. Pina Colada 2b exact, perfect! For food we each ordered the smothered pork chops with yams and greens. Boy o boy! This food was amazing... !! We only had to wait about 15 minutes. They served cornbread with this and it was like I make mine (some what sweet). Our food was so good I asked to speak with the chef to give our compliments. She came out from the back, very nice and humble. Im giving Southern Cafe 5 stars but they truly deserve 100 of them. Going back this weekend!......

Average. We went on a Wednesday eve. They were out of many core dishes. What is with that? Service wasnt that great. We waited forever to get drinks, forever for them to take our order and forever to get our food. Food wasnt all that great! Ive had much better soul food at smaller establishments. Then the waitress puts our check down and walks away. I wanted dessert. Had try try to flag her down for that too... then was so disappointed. They didnt have the dessert I wanted so I ordered the peach cobbler but it was served cold and they didnt even offer to warm it and didnt have any ice cream? Wow.

The one star is far the staff who were gracious and friendly. Aside from that we had a poor experience. The food is eye-wateringly expensive. ($12 for a plate of lettuce and 5 slices of chicken on top, cmon!). We ordered 2 salads which took half an hour to arrive. My chicken was raw in the middle wich should have been spotted in the kitchen because it is served sliced. The acoustics in the restaurant are awful, it was extremely noisy even though there was hardly anyone in there. We eventually left with a stomach full of salmonella and a headache. Best to avoid this place

I went there today with a co-worker for lunch, were wasnt a lunch menu for one. They charged him $13.00 for 2 pieces of red snapper and fries and charged me $9.99 for the chicken wing basket and it came with 2 wings and some frozen fries, this wasnt cool at all. I couldve just went to Olivers fish house. The girl at the bar her service was great and thats about it, wont be going back there. If you want to know go to Oaklands Southern Cafe because this place is highway robbery. Most of the reveiw has to be friends and family members boosting their reveiws.

This business is very irresponsible. They serve alcohol with no regard to the drinker’s safety. The let you get severely drunk and let you walk out the door not knowing or caring how you are getting home. One day someone will die from this. The bartenders must not be well trained and the same with the management. They don’t care and don’t respond when you try to talk to them about the issue. I will never recommend this business to anyone.

I cant express in words how good this place is!!! Went on a Sunday for lunch.. it was crowded, however, the staff was amazingly friendly, attentive and quick. I had the southern fried chicken with collard greens and red beans and rice. Probably the best, most tender and well seasoned fried chicken meals Ive ever had. My mom had the oxtails and loved her. We will definitely be back its nice to have a good place to go in downtown Antioch!

This place had me upset. First it took almost an hour to get our food. I have a toddler so I decided to make it to go. I asked for a side of corn, it was not with our food (I paid for it), they say they have a special seasoning for the fish but I tasted nothing. The cabbage was mushy, chicken hard as a rock. Food was terrible. I dont like giving bad reviews but the food was horrible I dont recommend at all. 69.00 down the drain.

The turkey meatloaf was good, tender a l little too spicey but delicious. I like mild spicey and this was not overwhelming, so I give it on a scale of 1-10 an 8 for originality. I have never heard of adding a jalapeno like pepper flavor to a meatloaf. I did not get sides which is usually included. I may come back if I know I will get sides included in the price of a typical restaurant meal.

I love this place. I came here two months ago when I first arrived jet lagged, frustrated and the staff was overwhelming as nice as the atmosphere. I just made it back today and I am so excited the taste has been in my mouth since I first came here. I wish I could make it here more often.

We came Easter Sunday 3/27/16. Service was amazing ask for Kellie she was our server/bartender and make sure you ask her for secret sauce..Thank you Kellie for making our first time here amazing!! The food is to die for!!!

Fried chicken was delicious. And the short ribs were tender. Collard greens were a bit salty for my liking. The menu is pricey. I didnt feel completely full but comfortably satisfied when I left. 4 stars for the prices.
