We had been to this restaurant 7-8 times over the last 7 years. Each time it had been one of our go to places in Scottsdale to dine until yesterday. Got there when opened up at 5pm. We were the second table seated. Server was somewhat new and a little inexperienced. That was fine with us. She was friendly at first until we asked a question about a dinner item when they arrived. Then she disappeared never to return. Then a large gentlemen came to the table which I assume was the manager and asked if their was a problem. We explained what we thought was a different menu item and he promptly said he had been there 21 years and it had not changed. Then we knew we were in for not so nice experience. Downhill from that point. It was time to push us out and make room for the next group. We were treated with no respect for just asking a simple question. It will be our last time ever to dine there. They won the battle, but lost the war!

As a successful hair stylist, I lived in Scottsdale for 10 years. I cannot even begin to surmount the thousands of dollars I spent @ this establishment. I have since retired and left Arizona. I trully miss AZ 88 and its wonderful staff, great food and beautiful atmosphere. They welcome all...from families, usually early evening, to the later crowd looking for a cool place to have great cocktails and late evening dining. As a regular there, the staff always served my Ski martini within minutes of my arrival...even with my 3 jalapeño olive garnish! Ive not found another comparable spot in any of my travels. Just its longevity speaks volumes. I am planning a visit to Scottsdale soon...And be assured my first dining will be AZ 88!! If youve not visited AZ 88, you are missing the very best Scottsdale/Phoenix has to offer. Philip P.

Awesome food (try the BLT or the AZ88 Chicken for the main course, and the water chestnuts for the appetizer -- you wont be disappointed. Atmosphere is very chic and during the evenings it becomes a very hip, trendy place to grab some grub and have amazing martinis that are filled to the brim (Limeade is my favorite). Theres usually a line, so get there early and grab a great table to watch the action. Finally, the bathrooms. Yes, the bathrooms. If youre looking for them, look against the far wall. The doors are hidden, but you can see windows at the bottom of the floor (strategically placed under the sink ... did your date wash their hands?). Mens is on the right, womens and handicap are on the left. Just plain awesome place to feel hip and trendy, without too much snobbery.

This was a favorite place of mine four or five years ago... Ive spent a lot of time and money here. How things have changed, sadly. The host made us feel like second-class citizens by offering us "the table nobody else wants." No problem, weve been waiting for a seat for 30+ minutes, sure well take "the table nobody else wants." So we sit at this table for another 30 minutes and NOT A SINGLE EMPLOYEE would make eye contact with us. Folks all around us were being seated and served attentively. I finally grabbed a server by the elbow and asked for waters/menus. She was kind enough to send someone our way. Our server did a decent job until halfway through our meal... then disappeared. Completely. The food was good, the drinks were fine but we were utterly ignored. Bummer...

The best thing about AZ88 is the always-changing art wall behind the bar. They often come up with great concepts. They are famous for their martinis, and that the wait staff does not spill them when carrying them on trays to your table. The food is typical bar food - a lot of (delicious) greasy/heavier options that go great after a night of drinking. The design of the space is looking a little tired - the dining area and restrooms have not been updated in about 10 years and it is showing. Especially the restrooms - not very well ventilated and some of the finishes are looking worn. But still one of the places to "be seen" in Old Town.

I had my best glass of whiskey at this place. It was suttle, went down like fuzz, and the after taste went to an instant sweet taste. Ive never experienced so many feelings from a glass of whiskey! The food was great, not much more i can expand on that. The service. Well... dont dress like your a skater or off of the street. You will be ignored if you are. This is why i gave the title of nice place, dress business or better. I suppose it is my own fault for not fitting in. This place is for adults only, this is no place for kids. Why do i say it like this? There are paintings on the windows of people having sex. ;)

Great little bar and restaurant, I have been here plenty of times and fully enjoy the stockings hanging from the ceilings. The bartenders here seem to have a generous pour when it comes to your drinks and their food is amazing aside form one time that I had chicken a couple months back, it was so undercooked that I had to send it back (I can honestly say I have never sent anything back before). That was my one complaint; but out of the 20+ times that I have been here I would rate my experiences as 5 stars.

Fantastic selection at the bar with great prices and food to go with it. Tho this place is a bar first the a restaurant their food is better than a lot of other places Ive been to. After going here multiple times and sitting either on the patio, inside, or at the bar the service has been equally perfect every time. Theyre always attentive but not in your face about checking up on you. It seems they have the perfect balance here. If in Scottsdale Id definitely recommend you check this place out.

Went here to catch up with a friend while in Scottsdale. We wanted to be able to talk without hollering over the din of a crowded bar. This place was perfect. Nice atmosphere, staff was not only great, but fun. I had a Caesar salad with seared ahi. They didnt drown the salad in dressing (yay!) and there was more than I could eat. My friend had a burger which she said was amazing. The margarita was just the perfect cocktail for a hot summer day. I would definitely come back here.

This is my watering hole. I love coming here in the afternoon when it is slow, sit on the patio and look at the trees, enjoy a breeze people watch and drink a caipirinha. The food is solid, my favorite is the St. Petersburg fries. Night time here is crowded. The servers can get backed up. I dont think its worth taking a star, its what you would expect from a nice lounge. I just wanted to warn you so you know to expect to wait a little. Trust me the wait is worth it.
