Looks very nice from the outside. Filled with Indian objets darts inside. Neat, clean, and strong spices not permeating the place. My table was the third from the front along the side where the buffet is. Actual cloth table covering and napkins. Small light(s) on every table. Flickering hanging lamps over each table on this side were annoying. The first person to take my order didnt seem to understand that I wanted one order to eat in and a different order to take out. The second person took my order and it all turned out fine. However, the food was disappointing. Very oily rice pea pilau with large chunks of green pepper. Chicken makhni pieces had gristle and cartilage in several bites. Waitress told me that this "meat is dark meat and the kitchen people cant feel the gristle through their gloves". The pastry for the vegetable samosa was actually tough in the corners, not flaky anywhere, and the pea and potato filling was smushy. The salty lassi was excellent. With the take-out order, they didnt include a naan that I ordered, which I didnt discover until I was already home. But they took10% off the bill because I mentioned the gristle in the chicken makhni - I didnt ask them to do it so I appreciate that gesture. My first time eating here, and I will try once more because the atmosphere is pleasant, and the staff are very friendly and courteous. By 6:15, the phone for carry-out was ringing about every 5 minutes, so there are many who like the food. If youre used to Indian food in Sterling Hts MI (huge Indian and Pakistani population) or D.C. or NYC, the meal tonight was truly no more than 3 stars at best. Worth a try and see what you think. p.s. the entree does not include rice. Jasmine rice is not on the menu. They had never heard of cilantro chutney ! ?

Food was great. I had the Chicken Korma - very flavorful and cooked well. The service was a little questionable. As we had never been there before, we took our time with the menu and ordered a couple appetizers. When we asked the server for a few more minutes to decide on entrees, she never came back. Another server brought our appetizers and left without asking for our order (we were ready by then). Finished our appetizers and finally ordered our meals when the last server came to clear our table. We werent too bothered by it at the time because we had good company and the appetizers were hot and delicious. When we were done with our meal and the server came to collect a few plates, we asked for the check as wed been there for over an hour and had other plans to attend to. When the server came back for the rest of the plates, he had no check and then tried to sell us on dessert and more drinks. Not really a big deal, but there were a lot of minor negatives throughout the evening. One or two problems would have been fine, but I really hit my limit when I reached for my purse and saw a giant blob of korma gravy on it. Then I realized it was in my hair. The server had bumped into me when he delivered the food and had said "oops" but never mentioned pouring sauce down my back. Ill come back, but probably for takeout.

I used to have more of an affinity for Star of India, but apparently my tastes have changed since becoming vegetarian. I recently went there for the buffet and was a little disappointed with the food. The service is always great and very personal, but sometimes the buffet can be lacking. Its not that the food is bad per se, but the same variety of dishes are always served. Of the six main dishes, four are vegetarian. I know at least two of those have paneer cheese, so vegans might want to call ahead first and check. I do not believe that the naan is vegan either. At any rate, last time I went, the saag was somewhat flavorless and the gulab jamun were dry, even though we arrived when the buffet first opened. This is still a restaurant I will go to whenever I am in Ahwatukee and want a comfortable, enjoyable experience. Warning to vegetarians: the server will bring tandoori chicken to your table at the start of your meal unless you ask that it not be brought.

I have have been here several times and always had a wonderful experience. Yesterday I stopped in for there lunch buffet and was served by one of the sweetest servers I have ever known. He was new, to this establishment, but i kniw he has much experience. I feel awful I can not remember his name. I believe it was Mahi, but I am probably wrong. Regardless you will know him by his bright smile and endearing personality. He also has a constant need to recommend you try more of this or more of that, before I knew it I had consumed 6 of the brown dessert balls. I am not Indian but but I can tell you that the flavors here are FULL of wonder. I have tried them all and enjoyed everything. Paneer, is wonderful. Tandoori chicken juicy. The nan bread is delicious and huge! I can not give enough praise.

Very Amazing! After living in India for 8 months and only recently returning back in August I was dying to get my hands on some Indian food again but I was skeptical of all Indian restaurants I saw because I thought none of them could measure up to the real deal. But Star of India is the real deal! They dialed the spice down a bit for us Americans, but the taste is spot on! And they are real Indians from India! Knowing some of their language I was able to speak to them and learn where they are from. Truly a great Indian experience and atmosphere! Very clean and the food was amazing! My favorite Indian food since coming home! I will go again and again! My stomach has never been so happy! Great Indian music, Shows. Atmosphere and most importantly Amazing authentic Indian Food!

I come here often and invite family and friends for a reason. Their buffet is fantastic. Every dish is a great choice, full of flavor. Wonderful family or private atmosphere. Very romantic decor and lighting. Tables are always clean and setup very fanciful. With a buffet with so many choices for only ten dollars all you can eat and drink you really cant go wrong. I have noticed that the servers have been changed up recently and I love them like family. Very large selection of alcohols and wines for very decent prices as well. very traditional music you can dance to and stunning artwork abound here. I recommend this fine dining to my friends and family and once you visit im sure you will see why!

As someone who loves Indian food, Im sorry it took me so long to find this place and give it a try! The food is great, the pricing is just right, and the service is stellar. The dine-in restaurant is not very large, and it is tucked back in a corner of the same area where you can find Trader Joes & Pomegranate Cafe. Although small, they nonetheless have a full bar and a nice wine selection. You can also quite easily order for take-away. The menu has a great selection of yummy Indian fare, including a wide array of breads. Unlike certain other Indian restaurants in the Phoenix area, they do also include a portion of rice with your curry order (although extra rice will cost you).
