So been here twice. First time good, second time horrible experience. We had taken my mom there for mothers day. On the way out to the back patio seating area, my mother tripped and fell on an unmarked step that is not marked or has any kind of safety warning its there. The staff acted like they wanted nothing to do with us. My mother fell and hit her head pretty hard on the brick floor. She had a big lump while we sat there. The waitress just vanished and we sat there for 15 min before anyone came to help us. Please keep in mind it was not even very busy while we were there. It was like they were avoiding us because she had fallen. I counted 9 waiter staff walking around. It took almost 10 min to get something to drink after ordering. Service was very slow and disorganized. Upon leaving my wife asked to speak to the manager or owner regarding the incident of my mom falling. The owner acted like she could careless and said " Oh, I thought you already left". She said I heard someone fell, but I was busy. I will never go to this restaurant again. I believe in supporting local business, but not this awful place. Please avoid eating there. The bathroom was dirty and disgusting as well.

We arrived through the back to a 30% full patio, and we were told the wait would be 45 mins. I said, there are many empty tables on the patio so why is the wait so long? I was told there were "groups" ahead of us. 65 mins later we were seated. 10 mins later, our waiter first appeared. This all started at 4:45 PM on a Saturday. He took the drink orders, and then the food orders at the same time. 15 mins later, no drinks, no silverware. No waiter to be found. We sent someone from our table to the bar to recover the drink order, which was sitting on the bar for the last 15 mins. Now we have not cold beer. Suprisingly, the food shows up right away (20 Mins.) and it looks good, HOWEVER, still no silverware. 3 mins later we finally get silverware and the food is now lukewarm. The food was OK, but they screwed up 2 of the six orders...too hard to get ahold of our server, so we made due and we will not be coming back. The place is spendy for what you get, and very average. The patio is overrated, too. The bar and bartender were very good, though. I wish I would have gone to the San Tan Brewery next door. Ambiance means nothing with poor service.

My wife and I took our out-of-town guests to El Zocalo tonight and what a mistake it was. It started out bad when the waiter took almost 15 minutes to get water on our table. To prolong the agony, the drink order (a whopping 3 margaritas) took another 15 minutes. We placed our food order and it was over an hour before the food came out - and this is after having complained to someone at the front of the restaurant as our waiter was nowhere to be found. We were told that there was a problem in the kitchen and they were understaffed. The manager allegedly was in the kitchen helping make the food. We expressed our displeasure for the wait and the poor service to the waiter who couldnt be bothered. We expected that as we neared the end of the meal, that the manager would have the decency to come out and apologize for a horrible dining experience which we (and surely others) were encountering. Yet - that was not on the managers radar. In fact, most restaurants would have offered to comp drinks or dessert. Not this one however. Needless to say - we will not be back. This place is pathetic and they do not care for their customers whatsoever.

The food was excellent; but over priced. Decor is really nice; but so loud in the dining room, one has to literally shout to hear the person across the table. The worst part is the wait to be served. After our order was taken and over 20 minutes passed we tracked down our waiter and asked him why its taking so long? We told him we had a show to catch at 8PM (order taken at 6PM). He checked his hand held device and said it would be another 15-20 minutes! I asked is it always this slow and he said yes. He said they only have only two cooks in the kitchen. One would think they would have offered more chips, salsa or a complimentary soft drink........Nope, never happened. Another 25 minutes passes before the food finally arrived!! Never again would I go back; there are too many terrific Mexican restaurants in the area that offer great food, decent prices and much better service.

This place is a great. They have an amazing patio for dining and listening to live music. The service staff is nice and the food is authentic. Zocalos has a large selection of Tequila to chose from for those who have a distinguished taste for it. Ive seen the bad reviews for this place and have to disagree. Its a classy place for those who wish to dine with others they are pleased to spend some time with. In a traditional setting, this is how u dine with family & friends. Plus price probably keeps out the rif-raff. It is is in a good place in historic downtown Chandler amongst other great choices to dine. If u want faster paced food and budget prices or just hole in the wall goodness, you can try their bakery El Sol right up Arizona ave. or Mangos on Main st. (downtown Mesa). They will not disappoint!

I brought my Meetup Group here.. there were sixteen of us. They promised us Separate Checks and in the end they would not give us that promise. The bill was over $500 and we had to sit there for an hour and a half trying to figure out all of the payments, the tax and the 20%s tip. Three of us specifically told the waiter that we wanted Separate Checks and he agreed and then he denied it and started being rude and said that they really cant accommodate this many people really seriously? Youre a restaurant and you cannot accommodate 16 people. They need to improve their customer service ..their food is overpriced and then when you get bad service it just makes the experience a bad one. We will not come back here and from what he said, they dont care

Okay, I love Mexican food, but havent found many exceptional places since moving to Arizona. El Zocalo is exceptional! The atmosphere is cute, especially with the melted candle wax under the candles (you have to see it). We sat near the front windows where we could people watch as we ate. Ive been looking for a place that makes great Chili Verde and I finally found it! Yes, Im very excited by this place. The portions are good and the food delicious. Our waiter, Nick, suggested the cheese relleno topped with the Chili Verde, so my wife tried it and it was rich, savory, and spectacular. The service was very good and our dining experience made dinner very special. This is definitely a place we plan to eat at frequently!
