After hearing about the selection of craft beers on tap here, I was stoked to say the least. I’m a sucker for little out of the way places with a neighborhood feel and there’s a dire need for a place like the Handlebar in the East Valley. I stopped by on an early Thursday evening to a very light crowd. Live music in the background, the smell of BBQ and a great beer list on the wall was exactly what I had in mind. I took a seat at the bar and waited for a friendly voice to attend to my beer drinking needs but I could only spy a young girl and man in a baseball cap working. Two more patrons came in and sat at the bar to my left. It’s ok I thought.. good things come to those who wait. The man in the baseball cap came behind the bar with a bottle of wine in his hand and proceeded to open it right in front of me. The young girl tried to get his attention to serve me and the other bar guests but he was on a wine mission and ignored her, moving to the tables behind me. She approached the guests next to the far left of me and took their order. “Finally” I thought to myself.. At least she has acknowledged our existence. Another group of 4 came in and took a table behind me and low and behold the man in the baseball cap greeting them, laughed and took their drink order. I had already been sitting at the bar nearly 15 minutes by this time and had yet to have anyone acknowledge me. The young girl still had yet to even make her way to my spot at the bar. Trying to get her attention the ball cap man makes his way back around the bar to tell me that my beer is coming. Then he looks at me and says “you did order a whatever” and I said “No, I haven’t had anyone take my order yet” and with that he looks at the guy next to me at the bar and says “Hey buddy, good to see you.. let me get you your beer.” Are you kidding me?! Let’s add insult to injury. No apologies, no “can I take your order”.. NOTHING. After a 10 mile drive and 25 minutes of ZERO service I walked out. A shame really. I could have easily seen myself as a regular at a place like this. Three stars for great beer selection if you can get served.

Every time I go to Handlebar, I am amazed at the food, and selection of beers. I went tonight for their Friday night special of ribs, and I had doubts as I parked, the place was packed. But my friends and I found a table quickly, and were attended to immediately. The drinks were served promptly, and our orders taken just as promptly. They had grilled acorn squash as a side, what restaurant has that variety? I ordered a salad to go with my ribs and squash, and noted that they didnt ask what kind of dressing I wanted. That intrigued me. Long story short, the ribs were incredible, the squash was delicious, and the salad was perfect. I especially was pleased that they didnt use nutrition poor iceberg lettuce in the salad, but romaine and red lettuce, and spinach leaves as well. A delightful vinaigrette properly applied, and some gouda cheese and cherry tomatoes to complete the experience. A surprisingly intimate, personal restaurant in a world that seems filled with bland food chains. All I saw were happy people in the joint, obviously having a good time. No matter where you live, this restaurant is worth the drive. I cant express how nice and accommodating the staff is! Tony

I am a regular at the Handlebar every Tuesday, for Brewsday Tuesday. Dollar off any of their 30 micro and craft beers on draught. They also carry small batch local wines, and have a large selection of craft beers in the bottle to go. Excellent menu - no fired food, everything is grilled. Their burgers are made from grass-fed beef. The mahi-mahi is grilled to perfection. All entrees come with a side, (my fave are the Handlebar potatoes) and it is obvious that as much effort was put into the sides as into the main dishes. The staff is superb, friendly. A very large patio area with misters, very important with our 100+ degree heat in the summer. The Handlebar is not a dive, the prices reflect that, but it is still very affordable. If you are looking to chug down Coors Light, go to Captains. The Handlebar is a place you would not be ashamed to bring your boss.

Im sure the positive ratings here on Google may be spot - on, but in my experience, it wouldve been nice to get to the point of at least an item on the menu. After 10min of waiting at a table out back on a fairly non-business Tuesday afternoon, a waitress finally approached to ask what wed like to drink, but since they dont serve a common staple of iced tea, she brought us waters instead, then instead of taking our food order, ditched out to take orders from another table of seniors whod appeared after wed arrived, then had the audacity to walk by us AGAIN to serve yet another table of seniors whos also arrived after us. So, after more than 15min of hungrily waiting to just make our order, forget it. I wont be back.

I have been living in this area for approximately 12 years and yesterday was my first time at the Handlebar. The first thing I noticed was beautifully designed ceiling with all the beer taps, a true work of art. The bar, what a great accent piece! The main thing I look for in any establishment is cleanliness, I would give the Handlebar SIX stars on this one! The food was Great! I wanted a good burger, I got a GREAT BURGER, prepared exactly the way I like it. The star of the dish had to be the Handlebar potatoes (a plate of those, I would have been totally satisfied!). The only thing better than the food and the cool atmosphere was the OUTSTANDING customer service. This place is a "must go to...NOW"!

I have been here a few times and appreciate the variety of beer and the food, and the beer. I agree about the service. It appears to be kind of a locals hangout and the owners seem fine with that. We went there one time and it was closed because the husband and wife were unloading a vehicle full of stuff while they bickered with one another. We didnt have to pay for the entertainment, but didnt wait until they opened either. Did I mention the beer? Service usually treats you like they are doing you a favor, but I still like it and hope to go there tonight in fact. Too bad they dont have an outdoor patio. Badly needed.

The best place in Apache Junction, bar NONE. The owners are genuine sweethearts, and the staff mirror their philosophy of hospitality and service. The food is of the highest quality, and prepared to order. A rotating selection of craft beverages and year round favorites will slake your thirst. With live music (bluesy, jazzy, acoustic) 4-5 nights a week, no hard liquor, and the friendliest (CUTEST!) backyard in the East valley, the Handlebar is the PERFECT spot for friends, family, business, or a date. I LOVE to introduce out of towners to the atmosphere, and winter weekends can be a wait!
