Either I went on a bad day, or all these reviewers have never had good bbq. I had some high hopes for this place. I traditionally love crate bbq, some of my favorite food to eat. I used to live in the south and eat a lot of Rudys for example, but this place just misses the mark. The brisket had good flavor but was incredibly chewy, its supposed to melt in your mouth, but instead it was tough. The pulled pork was incredibly dry, however the hot links were rather good. As for the sides, they were pretty average. The mac and cheese and greens were alright, but the beans were TERRIBLE. I love smokey beans, but these werent right, they were pure smoke with some beans dropped in. It tasted like i was sucking on charcoals, incredibly bitter. Youd get the same experience from drinking a shot of liquid smoke. The only redeeming thing I can say about this place is that the sauce and their homemade juices/sodas are good. They definitely need to step it up in the BBQ pit, the meat should have been way more tender than it was. Ill probably try this place one more time and give the ribs a fair shot, but my first opinion of this place is that its nothing special. Who knows, maybe i just went at a bad time and the meat had been sitting out.

Im not sure who is giving 5 star reviews for this average, salty greasy food!? We ordered the 3 meat 3 side for 2 people for a whopping $32.00...Salty!!! For the meats we got pork, ribs and brisket....the pork was dry yet dripping in grease and so salty it was hardly eatable . We got 1 rib with barely enough meat for one person and it had bloody veins in it! The brisket was good but half of it was fat. For the sides we had baked beans, coleslaw and mac n cheese. The beans were again so salty and had way to much smoke flavor ( not eatable), coleslaw was good but nothing special and the mac n cheese was ok but the melted cheese on top was again super salty! We had the mango ice tea that had a bug and a bunch of grit in the bottom and one other oh their juices that had a metal shaving in it! All totaled it was $41 for very mediocre food with two thick slices of nasty white bread from Piggly Wiggly. Smoke Shack is way better with great atmosphere but very expensive as well! Way over priced IMO... way too salty and portions are on the small side... who shares one rib??

I was there for a late lunch / early dinner the other day. I had been looking forward to it all week and all I can say was that I was pretty disappointed. The bad: The meat(s) we got were rather dry and to us tasted like they were fresh out of...the microwave. Half of the pork we had ordered was hard as a rock, the ribs were 75% fat (ok for me, not for my girlfriend) and the brisket was extra tough. The mac n cheese was ok (to me it was not cooked fully) and the greens were super bitter but I enjoyed them for the most part. The good: the coffee was AWESOME. The two people we delt with were very friendly and welcoming (the owners, I think). The environment is excellent, very clean and very welcoming. I want to go there all the time now for the coffee. Overall I think I may have caught them on an off day. I am not done giving this place a chance but I still feel like I needed to leave a review.

This place is, hands down, the best BBQ Ive had in the state. Now, just to clarify, I love Texas style BBQ, especially brisket. Ive tried a ton of restaurants looking for something to compare to that moist, delicious, melting, smoky, glistening beef without having to drive across the country to get it. I finally found it. The pulled pork is also out of this world. Before this place, I was always in the mindset of "pulled pork is pulled pork, it all tastes the same." This place changed my mind. And the Milwaukee rib? Fatty, chewy, smokey meat heaven. If youre a sauce person, they make their own and its pretty good, but I never use it. The food here shines by itself. Come on down, meet Edna (the giant smoker right outside), chat with the awesome friendly staff and eat some delicious meat.

First of all - The food was amazing. The sides were especially well done. All of the meat dishes were hot juicy and flavorful. Right down to the pickles , Mac & cheese, and grits-the sides were amazing. Oh, and I cant forget the greens mustard greens. Second of all, the staff was extremely friendly, happy to give you the best, and helpful with your menu and drink choices. Last but not least, the value was there. Great food great service and plentiful portions all added up to a fabulous meal.

During a lunch date with my wifey we decided to get the 3 meat/3 sides meal. Brisket, Pulled Pork and Ribs along with greens, mac n cheese and baked beans. Hot DAMN!! Good stuff!! Well worth the price of admission even if I cant do it all the time. Interested in seeing the smoker? just ask! I love that they give us the mini tour around Edna and what she has to offer. I typically say I wish places were closer to home but not this time, because I would be broke.

I had the traditional brisket and three sides. The brisket was plentiful, beautiful color, and amazing taste. The bbq sauce on the side is a great addition but honestly not required as this was one of the tastiest meats I have had in a while! For sides I had beans, mac n cheese, and the greens. I am usually not a bean guy, but these hit the spot. Side of texas toast and pickles, this is some great bbq!

Im from the South, Texas to be exact and live in Tennessee, so I know a thing or two about good eating, especially barbecue. When I come to the area I always make a point to eat here every day. The service is great, the food is always delicious and the prices are excellent for the amount of food you get. I highly recommend this place. Bring all your friends and family or call in an order for takeout.

Easily some of the best BBQ in the state if not the upper mid west, yeah seriously. Insanely good. Do yourself a favor and get the grits as one of your 3 sides! Chances are you havent had properly cooked freshly ground grits before. Cant recomend enough, oh and come hungry, the helpings are generous.

The pulled pork was dry, but good flavor. I really wanted Brisket, but when I saw the blood in the center, and the cook having a hard time cutting. I knew it was under cooked , and tough. Rib lets were chewy. For $ 45 , I dont think I will be going back. Miss Beverlys is a little better.

Grateness! Could the staff be any nicer than at Iron Grate/Hawthorne coffee? Could the coffee roasting and meat smoking be tastier? Not on this planet. But taste is arbitrary. Intent and thought, and effort are not. They go for it all at this place, and they get it right.
