Cash only and order at the bar, but it keeps the prices down. The pizza is really good, bit Ive only had it a couple times because their walnut burgers are arguably the best burgers in town. I recommend adding cheese to help bind it together. Burgers are big portions, bit youll have to order sides separately. Sides are too much for one person so be prepared to split a basket. I recommend the house cut chips with blue cheese dipping sauce. Sometimes the chips can come out a bit over done, but usually they are a reason in themselves to visit. The bar and seating area show their age; worn and basic. The back room reminds me of a bingo Parlor. The staff are friendly if your patient and friendly back. They run a light crew for how many people the place can hold and are always running to take care of everyone at the bar. Folks on the Eastside of Madison know this as an established legendary bar.

I went here to see a performance and it was decent. The drink prices are fair and the selection is diverse. There is ample space for standing or dancing near the stage and the staff seemed nice. The man running the sound board was... not too good at his job, to put it nicely. Sound check took way too long and really screwed with the bands and their start times. Also, the way they charge a cover for people seeing the band was odd. The stage is in a different area from the bar and everyone hanging near the stage paid the cover. A gentleman asked, are you staying for the band? And then took the money. He ended up having is back turned most of the time and people would trickle in and stay or watch for 15 minutes... so why did I pay if other people didnt have to? (I am all for paying the cover. Bands need to make their money. But police it better.) It left me with a bitter taste.

One of the best neighborhood bars Ive ever been too. Great food and beer selection and some of the best music in Madison, especially if youre into rhythm and blues or alt country. How many neighborhood bars have acts like Marsha Ball and Junior Wells appearing? I have to laugh at some of the reviews that talk about how surly the owner and staff are. This is one of the friendliest bars in town and Ive been going there for over a dozen years, but dont come in ready to be coddled, because that aint happening. The upside is that you rarely have to wait longer than a minute or two to order a drink, no matter how busy it is. And you better not order too many, because they serve serious drinks here. Also, a great place to watch the Packers or Badgers.

The Harmony serves my favorite meal in all of Madison - maybe all of the world - the walnut burger. This is not a hamburger with walnuts as a topping, no. This is a burger MADE of walnuts. I know it sounds weird, but I URGE you: give it a chance. Its nutty and rich and flavorful and I could easily eat one every week. Pairs perfectly with an order of "Hot Chips" aka potato chips made fresh so they come out of the frier still hot and soft. YUM! Pro tip: get the blue cheese spread on top of the burger (swiss if youre not a fan of blue) with fried onions, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Welcome to heaven! PS: If youre not feeling a walnut burger (which youre crazy if not), Harmonys pizza, sandwiches, and regular hamburgers are also all top notch.

This is my all time favorite bar/grill in Madison. The atmosphere is very small town and has a great local feel and you can almost hear "Norm!" when you walk in. The food is always delicious! Walnut burgers are what they are known for (for good reason) however on week days their pizzas are a great treat. The Jukebox has a great mix of jazz, blues, classic rock and classic country, and it is all by CD which is a nice change from the internet jukeboxes. Also as haha JK stated, Allison can be considered abrasive, but honestly they are only watching out for their establishment, and once she gets that you arent a jerk looking to mess their place up, she warms up to you and is overall pretty great to you.

I came here once with a group of friends with the intention of getting dinner before a show at the Majestic Theatre. We didnt realize that you had to be 21 to be in the dining area. The owner, who was very rude from the second we walked in, had many opportunities to check our ids, if that was his policy. He waited until we were seated and had ordered food. We didnt see any "21 to enter signs". If we had, we would have left. But instead, the owner swore at us, called us stupid for not knowing we couldnt be there and followed us out the door. For someone who claimed to be very serious about doing things legally, he sure could have been more up front about his dining room policy

Horrible horrible service. Bar tender (tall with blonde hair she wouldnt give her name). Went for my boyfriends birthday which happened to be doing the Atwood pub beer crawl. She said after we picked our beers, that we cant use those for the pub crawl and that we need to pick only one beer. She said we should know that already, even though its not on the menu or on the punch card, and then mumbled under her breath, " well I guess I am supposed to be the one to tell everyone since they dont get it". It wasnt advertised anywhere. See was so rude and it was disgusting to see a human being let alone a worker talk and behave like that. I will never go here again.

FYI the show with Michelle Shocked was promptly cancelled when the owners returned from vacation. They would never support a homophobic or bigoted artist [though she still may show up and play outside the venues doors.] The owners were indeed on vacation, same time they take it every year, same place they usually go - Mexico - and as always, they go off the grid totally and leave computers and cell phones behind. Why is that so hard to believe? I do it myself sometimes. Also of note, the bar is about to change hands and be sold to a former bartender, Brad. So we may see some other changes there soon.

The food accommodates most people (they have a variety of vegetarian offerings), the atmosphere is laid back, and the beer is good. l would be cautious with Allison at the bar because she can be a bit abrasive at times but she is generally not as bad as some of the former staff that angrily posted poor reviews on here are describing. I would recommend the whitehouse turkey sandwich, the walnut burger, and their pizzas (only served certain hours), but the majority of their food is good. Almost forgot to mention that they are cash only. They have an atm onsite but it runs out of money some times.

The Harmony Bar & Grill is best summed up as a local dive with amazing food. You would never guess from their exterior, but the fare is some of the best in the city. As for the entertainment- I cant say the same. Theyre one of only two venues left in the United States due to bring in the ever-so-homophobic Michelle Shocked- which is a great disappointment to Madisons LGBT/Ally community. For a place that calls itself "harmony," the owner/manager/booking agent sure is inviting a lot of negativity by not kicking a hate-monger off the bill. Too bad hes "away for the next two weeks." Sad.
