Ive been here before, and it was decent, but my last experience was, well, the worst dining experience in quite a while. We sat down, we were greeted and given menus, our order was taken in a timely manner. Then it goes downhill... 1-The waiter had forgotten our order, and had not given it to the kitchen. He apologized. Thats good. 2-The order finally came-40 minutes after the second order was taken, and although my dining partners order was correct, mine was not. 3-Fish over cooked, fires cold, for my partner. My order, I cant comment on the burger, but my fries were seriously overcooked, and cold. I spoke with another of the wait staff, and she went to speak with a manager, who I never saw. My partner asked the waiter to keep her water glass filled. She needs water. She ended up drinking my water because her glass went empty and was never filled. As I said, Ive been there before, but I wont bother going back. Between the poor service, the attitude of the waiter, and the poor quality of the food, I think that Id be better off going to the grocery store across the street and finding the deli. I give only one star because the site wont allow no stars or a negative star rating.

Got to reunite with an old friend today that happened to be on the island and we decided to have lunch here. Great atmosphere and service! We ate at the bar. I cant speak for my friends meal but mine was excellent! I had their whiskey sour which is made with Woodford Reserve whiskey, lemon, lime, cherry juice, and maple syrup. Really tasty! I also ordered the Red Flannel Benedict. Its done with house made corned beef with beets, poached eggs, house made hollandaise, and a side of potatoes. I was really surprised at how tasty their corned beef was with the beets! Super tasty. The only drawback to this dish was the chef over cooked the eggs slightly. So no runny yolk for me sadly. Our server was Great! She kept our drinks filled and was amazingly patient with us as we kept our seats for near 3 hours with all our catching up. 4 stars for me on this one. The only reason its not 5 is the over cooked eggs. Had it been any other dish I probably would have not cared. But being an eggs Benedict, runny yolk is paramount to the dish. Its an honest mistake that can be easily fixed tho which is why I plan on coming back every time I go to Vashon Island! Highly recommend!!!

I came here with my family hungry, and looking for a good place to eat. My parents used to live here and remembered this place when it was an actual hardware store. So we decided to come here. The staff were very friendly and it showed the place was night and it had alot of selections. the food was slightly high priced as we looked through our menus. our waitress was kind and friendly she took our drink orders and was off. our beverages came and she took our food orders. we waited, and waited, and waited it took forever for our food to come, the people next to us got free soup, then their food came a little while after. then once more we were waiting again it felt like hours. then our food finally came, my sisters french fries were burnt tasting, my brothes chicken was burnt and tasted bad, my moms burger order got messed up twice, and the best tasting food on my plate was my toast. it didnt taste good and we wont be comming here again. It wasnt worth the price.

I cant say enough great things about the evening we had at The Hardware Store. They were so accommodating as to open the back patio for us. It was one of those hot, smokey, and humid nights this August, and i couldnt face being inside (although the restaurant is lovely inside.) The patio was cool, private, and lovely. The service was brisk and friendly. The food was delicious, and everyone in our party of five was happy with their choices. I was a little jealous of my sisters choice of appetizer...yummy brussel sprouts with caramelized onions. I was delighted to see so many choices for those of us that must eat gluten free, including clam chowder! Who has that? And my husband, who can eat anything, said it was great. And if great food and service werent enough, they have a large space dedicated to gallery space. What a treat. If youre on Vashon, this is a lovely way to spend an evening. Thank you Hardware Store staff.

Im all about the food...Through charming in Presentation and a Cozy Old Hardware Store converted...The Food is Awful I have tried Lunch and Dinner here....Breakfast potatoes the worst...the rest is Unimaginative and Dry Overcooked or Disappointing... With so much money into the Kitchens (yes two) and Large Opulent Bar I can only assume the Bar is their Money Maker, Im shaken my Head that theyve given up on the Food...Their Staff perform as if this is a Fine Dining Establishment, sadly it is not...A better Breakfast can be had just a few steps south of this culinary disaster...At a local Pub. We were there a couple of years ago and the food was fine. Atmosphere was great and the employees were friendly. When we got home we found out someone charged a video player (Sony Play Station) on our card that we used there. Being the only place we used our card was this establishment on Vashon Island, we deduced that they were responsible (or an employee was responsible). Regardless, my wife is a real stickler about watching over our finances, and thankfully so, we had the charges reversed. No harm no foul but it was worth noting that our card (again only used at this restaurant) had a suspect charge on it. But if you want a good meal and a nice atmosphere this place cant be beat. Just pay in cash...

Food was so tasty. Had the fish with truffle french fries. We were a bit put off by the wait situation. We arrived at 5:25 and were told 15 to 20 minutes and the gal told us she would call my husbands cell, so we offered our number. We went back at 6:00 since we hadnt heard and checked with her and she told us it would be 25 minutes. A bit disappointing since we were trying to keep a tired and hungry toddler occupied. But she luckily got us seated after a while outside and we sat down at about 6:20. Our meals were great. We loved the pulled pork, fish and grilled chicken from the kids menu.

As with some of the other reviews I am a little disappointed in this place. The food was expensive and not really THAT good. The chowder was tasty, although not really a chowder... it was much too thin. I got fish and chips for $11 and got 2 very small pieces of fish and a pile of fries that were like Dicks drive in only not as good. A lot of people say this place is the best on vashon and that makes me feel sorry for the people who live here. Definitely room for improvement here.

My 5 year old son and I took a Ferry from Tacoma and a short drive into town. We needed some lunch and we stopped here. I got the fish and ships, Logan just wanted fries (once again 5 years old). I also had a coffee. The food was great, the coffee was delicious. And the best part was our waitress. She was amazing, the kind of waitress that gives you juuuuuuuust enough attention. The rest of the visit was good too, the atmosphere is cozy even in a building with so much space.
