Nice place to come for Happy Hour and normally one of our favorite places. Food selection is nice and good selection of draft beers as well. They also have several unique mixed drinks as well. Favorite items on the menu are the Truffle fries and the Caprese sticks. This evening was very interesting. We came in for happy hour and requested to sit in a booth. We were told by the hostess, Serenity, that we could not sit in a booth because we only had two people in our party. And according to her, we needed a larger party in order to sit in a booth. She tried to sit us at at a small table with two chairs. She also suggested the tables with two chairs in the bar, that you have to climb out of, just to get down from the high chair. Once seated at the small table, we looked around and noticed there were two couples in 2 different booths and nobody else in their party?? So I asked each one of them if they were waiting for someone and they said no. I even took pictures to attach to this review. When our server, Nammon, came over to greet us, we told him about what had occurred. And that we were denied a booth because there were only two of us instead of a party of 4. We also told him that we had asked the other couples if they were waiting for other people and they both said no. So he went over and spoke with Serenity and told her to move us to the booth that was available. As she was moving us, she told us that in order to get a booth we need to request one???? I asked her did she not hear us when we requested one because shes the one that told us we couldnt have one!!? She was trying to back out of something she did, and not admit to it. We found out from one of the servers that she is Mikeys daughter, the owner. So I guess if youre the owners daughter you could do whatever the hell you want around the restaurant?? Well we will tell this to our friends who also dine at this restaurant frequently, and let them know if Serenity is the hostess, watch out for her attitude. She didnt even apologize once. Very unprofessional and I really dont care who shes related to! She should also wear clothes that actually fit her instead of dresses that are two sizes too small. Shes dressed more appropriate to work at a strip club than at a restaurant like this. If this review was based upon Serenity I would NOT even give it one star!! I think Daddy should have a talk with the little girl and tell her how to treat customers, if they want to maintain regular clientele. If you get the chance to stop in and dine or enjoy happy hour, see if you can get James as your server :-) He is awesome!! We have had him several times and weve been here with friends several times.... and he is our favorite server!!---- always top notch!! :-) I would give James 5 stars by himself :-) But please, train the hostess & help her practice MANNERS before she drives your regular customers away!

I have enjoyed Main Event Sports Bar since it opened and my favorite items are the truffle fries, hummus, fish tacos and the lunch specials. The tomato bisque soup is always a treat too! As far as the bar and drinks, I have to say my go to drink is Stella beer, followed by Hefeweizen by Widmer and if in a martini mood, they do make killer martinis. All in all, the atmosphere, people that work there and the drinks/food are great in my book. Its a welcome addition to downtown Vancouver and is a great option among all the other bars/restaurants in the area. Mondays, kids eat for free (with any adult purchase.) and Sundays they serve breakfast, so you can watch the football games. And now theyve opened up (well its been many months now) a Vancouver Eastside location, over on 164th Avenue. This location features the same quality food, service and atmosphere, and I think the setting is not your typical Sports Grill. Youll be pleasantly surprised after coming in and checking out the new "digs" at Main Event Sports Grill Eastside.

Pretty good food for a sports bar! I didnt have high expectations but the food and service was good. I had French dip sliders, side salad with blue cheese dressing, and a fruity martini. The roast beef was tender and seasoned well and bun was toasted perfectly. The salad was mixed greens, fresh vegetables, toasted bread and homemade blue cheese dressing. The size was large for a side salad. They have speciality drinks and the fruity martini was quite nice with their own strawberry infused vodka, other juices, and champagne. Very tasty! Service was good and attentive. It was a slow night though. Only con was air conditioning was on high and right over me...and it was cool outside. Food redeems it. Plenty of big screens placed well around the bar. Good overall menu including beer, wine, and drinks.

Was a little disappointed. Heard raves about the truffle fries.....I thought they were pretty bland. Had the garlic burger... didnt think it was spectacular for a $13 burger....it was good though. The steak bites with the horseradish creme fraiche...were DELICIOUS!! The Blt looked yummy & had lots of bacon on it. The beer selection idnt anything to get excited about..... no amber selections on tap....quite a few IPA selections for hops lovers. The service was terrible. ...my mom never got her 2nd beer she ordered...there were tons of staff members hanging out at the bar....but not a lot of serving was getting done...the bus boy came & took plates/cleared our table without even asking if we were done or even saying a word to us actually. Probably wont be returning :-(

I had been going to the main event on 164th for years before coming to this one. Having that, to compare this one to, I think does this place a disservice. The layout here isnt great. Trying to get though the tables in some places is impossible. Several times Ive sat at a table that was reset but not wiped down. The service is ok during the day, but the late night service is lacking. Im told sitting at the bar here is best, which explains why its always full and the rest is empty. Luckily the food is the same recipes as the other place, but even then, its not quite the same quality. I have to say, Im kind of disappointed this location isnt as good, but its not so bad that we wont come back. Over all, really not a bad place, mostly because of the good food.

Im not sure what it is, but I just cant bring myself to give 4 stars. The decor and layout is odd, the food doesnt seem to match the place - they try to make it more upscale on the menu, but the execution is just not there. Meat is almost always overcooked and the soup definitely tastes re-warmed, etc. They would be better off to stick with staples and flourish a little on those than try for fancier fare that doesnt quite deliver. The kitchen hasnt ever been that fast either. The service staff are usually pretty good and the drinks are usually well-made if youre into that. This place is busy on the weekends (usually) and when certain games are on TV - but other than that, theres not a lot bringing folks back in on a regular basis.
