I had heard good things about The Buttered Biscuit, especially their breakfasts, but someone recommended them for dinner, so we gave it a try. It was an unusual combination of offerings on the menu. It was intriguing how they have the (week)nightly specials for $5. I dont know the portion size for the $5 specials, but the price sounds great! In looking over the menu and specials, the fish and chips sounded good. My wife ordered the fish and chips dinner and it had about twice as much food as she could eat at one sitting, so we took it home. Then when I was reminded they they also had an all-you-can-eat fish and chips special for $2-3 more, it left me wondering why any normal person would order it as all-you-can-eat. By paying the lower price for a fixed portion is was twice all we could eat, so we were way ahead. My wife and I ordered two different dishes and split them between us. After seeing the portion size we got, we could easily have ordered a single dish to share and still not gone home hungry! On to the dish itself, the fish and chips disappointed me. Im not sure what they put in the batter, but it seemed quite chunky and was reminiscent of what a batter containing oats might be (never tried such a batter, but I can imagine). The coating seemed a bit overcooked or perhaps just more substantial than I would have liked. The fish inside seemed fine, but the whole package didnt have much flavor and didnt feel very good in my mouth. The tartar (spelled "tarter" on their menu) improved the flavor some, but I would not order the dish again. Our second dish was the stroganoff (the Pay Days a Day Away Stroganoff. I was flabbergasted when the dish arrived and I saw the size of the meatballs and the sheer amount of meat in the dish. I might have anticipated 1.5 to 2" diameter meatballs, but these seemed just huge, perhaps 2.5" or more. I dont know what they put in their meatballs, but I was surprised that they didnt seem to have much flavor other than the meat itself (didnt taste any spices). I enjoyed the stroganoff noodles and sauce and set the meatballs aside (since 2 meatballs alone would probably fill me up). The wilted salad that came with the meal was better than it sounded. I dont typically enjoy sweet items in my green salad, so when saw it had candied bacon I was prepared to be disappointed. But it was not overly sweet and had a nice texture the complemented the salad well. This place is not somewhere I am likely to frequent for dinner, but it was a worthwhile experience. I am looking forward to trying their renowned breakfast sometime.

Tried to come eat there today. Walked in and the only words spoken to us the entire time were, "Pick a seat." The four of us sat down. A hostess/waitress plopped three glasses of water down and tossed a few menus on the table without a word. She brought a fourth glass, plopped it down, again, without a word. Then we sat there staring at the three young employees, wondering which one might be our waitress, hoping one might someday stop by and offer coffee, ask if we have questions about the menu, ask how our morning is going, say some sort of words, smile, nod, wink, blink.... Heck, any form of human interaction would have been peachy. Maybe you all were short-handed, but it was 10:15 on a Monday morning. Breakfast crowd was gone, lunch crowd hadnt come yet, the place was maybe half full. Maybe. We waited longer than we should have, but finally got tired of waiting and just got up and left, much to my daughters chagrin. (She was crying by the time we got to the car.) Fortunately for her, you have a delightful competitor about a block away, whose portions are just as bountiful, whose prices are better, and whose service was superior. I hadnt even sat down before our waiter was pouring me a cup of coffee, asking how our day was so far, and introduced my family to a nice older couple sitting near us who were regulars there. (My daughter had a lovely chat with Mrs. Bertha & Mr. John and quickly forgot all about those pesky tears). So I supposed I should be thanking you and Google for helping us discover a new hidden treasure in town.

We have dined at the BB only three times (so far), always at breakfast/brunch time. There is a good reason why theres always a line waiting outside for a table, although the wait rarely exceeds twenty minutes or so, and is very well worth it. We have had a variety of items, including the pancakes (very light, with a hint of vanilla), waffles, omelets, scrambles, chicken-fried steak and our sons standby, chicken strips. The basics-- Think chicken strips are all the same?--not here, theyre not. The owner focuses on providing premium-quality food, and for that reason, she may pay a bit more for it, but it translates into a superior product on your plate. Bacon?-none of that thin stuff here--they serve a premium brand thats only 8-10 strips per pound (close your eyes and imagine a bacon steak). Chicken-fried steak--same thing. While most restaurants are content providing a 6oz or 8oz portion, the BBs take on this classic is a whopping 12oz serving, smothered in a house-made sausage gravy (they call it "SOS", but no matter what they call it, its wonderful), served with Grammas Eggs (scrambled with sausage, bacon, ham n cheese) and potatoes. Youll be taking the leftovers with you when you leave. Order any of the omelets or scrambles (try the Train Wreck) or the Walnut Sweet Cream French Toast. Whatever you do, do NOT leave without tasting the corn bread (the owners personal recipe)--it is to die for. Wow-- Im getting hungry; think well head there for dinner tonight!

Not going to return to a restaurant we used to love. Ordered a lemonade & asked what beer was on tap. Our waiter went to go look for the tap beer-came back & said they were out of lemonade & told me what was on tap. Ordered a Silver City beer & was given a bottle (obviously not on tap), no glass. On our bill @ the end I was billed for a Blue Moon beer. We are vegetarians-I ordered waffles & hash browns, my husband ordered the biscuit salad. Mine arrived with bacon which I asked the waiter to remove. he did not-he left & returned-I again asked him to remove the bacon. Finally I handed it to him in a napkin, however the bacon smell had permeated my food. My waffle was barely warm & tough to cut & eat-hashbrowns were completely dry & unappetizing. My husbands salad was served without dressing & looked like a regular dinner salad-it was missing 4 key ingredients-I told the waiter it wasnt right & he told me it was a biscuit salad & that was what he ordered. Got dressing & started eating. I grabbed a menu & again called the waiter over about the salad-the conversation was overheard by another waitress who very nicely apologized & said she would fix it-brought back a salad that was correct but we were done-took it home. Bill was $35. Seriously, dont bother going there.

I took a friend here on a whim for breakfast. Ive got some mixed feelings. The service was pleasant, the selection was large, the coffee was acceptable, and the food, while tasting a little off, was still palatable and not awful. The one incredible element was the little wedges of fried potatoes - heaven in my mouth, perfect amount of crunch and seasonings! However, I wont be returning. The decor was awful - grandmas basement decorated by a 10-year-old with garage sale items. The table was decorated with.. old napkins, it looked like, trapped under the glass, but stained and wet. The cornbread that was apparently served as an appetizer had more butter on it than bread; we made a pile of butter off to the side so we could even get to the butter-soaked cornbread! It was actually disgusting, despite my love for both. The main course of food was underwhelming. Eggs benny on a stout, solid biscuit was way too much and made the taste unfortunate. The numerous flies buzzing around didnt help my confidence in the establishment, because as soon as Id smack down one, two more would appear. To top it off, the parking was atrocious for late morning on a Tuesday. Overall, mixed feelings with a bad taste left in my mouth.
