I have been vegan for 3 years, have been to MANY strictly vegan restaurants but never have I been to one where I literally could not finish the food because it was so repulsive. My husband and I ordered 4 entrees because we like to try different dishes and then save the rest for leftovers but unfortunaly the "left overs" ended up in the trash. I should mention that we ordered take out and were a ways away when we finally started eating. If we were in the restaurant everything would have been returned. The waffles (from the chicken and waffles) were dense and tasteless while the "chicken" was dripping in grease. The Country Fried Burrito was dry, with many burnt fillings. The side of potato wedges was just that...potato wedges. Dry, unseasoned and slightly burnt. The Sante Fe Hash had a horrible smelling and tasting spice added to it (which was also added to the Country Fried Burrito) which made the dish almost sour and inedible. The only good thing in this dish was the toast. I bought my 2 year old the short stack of pancakes. Whoever packed this take out box, did it strategically so that the very burnt bottom pancake was hidden underneith the only slightly burned pancake. The pancakes were doughy and taste of flour. My baby wouldnt eat them. After eating, both my husband and I feel very nauseous. It tastes as though everything was cooked on a dirty grill with old stale ingredients. This is the only review Ive ever left for a business, good or bad. I have no idea how this restaurant has such good reviews. Im assuming that people are just happy that this is an all vegan restaurant, even if the food is awful.

Im a vegan, but a long time ago I loved a good steak, this place makes a great cruelty free steak. Right out of Star Trek Bonus points for star trek fans. T.V. Legend Gene Roddenberry interview: Alexander: I remember the character of Commander Riker on the current series commenting on how it was no longer necessary for animals to be raised for food. Twenty-fourth century technology could create an analog of meat so that all the things associated with bringing meat to the table were no longer necessary. Roddenberry: I look forward to that day coming. We would have our juicy T-bone steak without having to kill the animal. I feel different way about domestic animals now. I am a bit queasy about the way we raise our chickens and beef cattle and so on. It’s really ugly. Alexander: You’re talking about factory farms? Roddenberry: Yes, it is just not a good thing. I also look forward to when we will contact other races and other life forms. What will our attitude be toward them? If we are not careful, we may see sentient life that is so different we won’t realize it is sentient. Because the creatures we meet don’t act and interact as we do, we might consider them valuable — much as many people disdain dolphins and whales today.

Wayward is one of my favorite places to eat in Seattle. It is 100% vegan and theres no need to worry about accidental animal products ending up in your food. Ive had several entrees: fettuccine Alfredo, the spirit burger, the smokey provoloney, the crunchwrap chickn tostada thing, their chiggen wraps, fries, deep-fried artichoke, deep-fried pickles... and I know Im forgetting several things! The only thing we havent been here for is breakfast, but I have no doubt it is just as good as the lunch and dinner fare. There are lots of places in Seattle to get good vegan food, but Wayward is hands-down my favorite, and the spirit burger with its fried pickles is one of my favorite things to get, next to the alfredo! They serve lemonades, teas, even booze. The wait staff are always friendly and courteous, the service isnt the fastest but Im not usually in a rush when I go out to eat so its no big deal. The prices are great, too, my husband and I can have lunch there during the week for about $24 - including 2 entrees and beverages. I highly recommend this place to all vegans and non-vegans alike, the food is amazing!

Ive had food here a few times, and its usually been good. The last time, however, I got a faux chicken sandwich that had been overcooked and had a burnt bitter taste, hard burnt bits. I sent it back and got a veggie burger as replacement (and lots of coffee) without any hassle. Ive worked at a few restaurants, including a vegan cafe, and I would describe Wayward Vegan as going for middle-of-the-road greasy spoon and not too intense about the quality of presentation. Some people may like the laissez-faire and homespun style. As a comparison in lowbrow vegan spots, the High Line serves some great vegan guilt food but has a smaller menu, plus it helps if you enjoy loud music. In summary, Id say definitely go to the Wayward Vegan and enjoy their unfancy, reasonably-priced food, but be very watchful of the quality, especially things that need to cook evenly. You might just be there on a bad day with an inexperienced cook (and lets face it, most cooks dont know how to cook things). So dont worry about sending things back if theyre at all nasty, thats how we grow together in vegan love.

We come to Wayward often on Sunday for brunch. Its always busy if we wait too long(try to get there before noon if you dont want to wait on Sunday - its a popular spot!), but we always decide its worth the wait. The staff is always friendly and weve always experienced great service. On to the food: does it get better than a heaping plate of pancakes and hash browns? Its enough to put a smile on my face just thinking about it. Comfort food at its absolute best is what youll find here. Try the Breakfast Club or the Steak Breakfast. For lunch, the Reuben and Philly are favorites in this house. Stop in, bring friends, enjoy the hip new setting(they recently expanded from a small location to this new one) with tall ceilings, the same great food with a cozy diner-feel, and a beautiful array of customers. PS- parking is super easy. Big parking lot right across the street. PPS- dont be like me and think that the "Wayward Coffee" place up the street is related to this place and come strolling in with your latte. Theyre not related. Drink your latte outside.

Started a plant based lifestyle 2 months ago and was looking for a place to try out. First impression was a nice location but took a while to find parking. Walked in and approached the podium stood there 3 minutes with NO acknowledgement of my existence. Three women walked in a minute later, and quickly acknowledged saying there is a few minutes wait to get a table cleared off. Still NO acknowledgement to me. A party of 5 walks in a few minutes later and guess what happens, they get acknowledged by taking their name. But hold on as for me, NO acknowledgment still after 5 minutes. It does not take much to make eye contact and ask if I been helped. Poorly managed on customer service. Bad first impression. Went to Whole Foods spending $40 that would have gone to Wayward. I guess no sales for party of one compared to three or five.

For the most part, eating at Wayward was a great experience. I love being able to go somewhere and get anything on the menu! I also love that it offers a wide variety of vegan options that dont all necessarily revolve around being health food, but instead are of the comfort food variety. The wait was long, but not unexpected on a Saturday afternoon. The staff was friendly and hardworking, you can tell they do their best to get everyone seated in a timely manner despite the crowds. I had the country fried seitan and it was delicious! Other bonuses -- great coffee and a not-much-to-look-at but YUMMY Bloody Mary. The real disappointment of the day were the dense and dry biscuits with the mushroom gravy. I recommend Wayward and look forward to trying a few things on the menu to see if the bad biscuits were a one-off!
