I dont live in Seattle although I do travel there a good handful of times through out the year. Today my husband and I were having a not to good day during our trip to Seattle. When came upon this lil place, while I was waiting for to have a tattoo consultation at a tattoo parlor just up the street. We were hungry and to be honest there didnt seem to be many options around there. As we were walking by "Taste of India" and I thought why not? It turns out we showed up about 30 min before opening and we asked if we could just sit in their out door seating and they were kind enough to allow us. As we were waiting for time to pass they came and gave us some complimentary chai tea which I found was nice and a first time try for my husband and he enjoyed it. We ended up leaving to go to my tattoo consultation and came back after. We were quickly seated. I thought service was excellent! we were given a sample of something delicious and then proceeded to order. My husband and son had never had Indian food so I was a lil nervous how they might like it. My husband got a salmon tandoori I believe.. I got the Butter chicken curry with roti bread and order my son the chicken tikka. When the food arrived it was absolutely divine!! My husband next to inhaled his food but not before I got to taste it. My curry was the best I had since I used to actually live in the middle east. And to my surprise and delight my son (7) who despite my efforts is quite picky with his food thought the chicken tikka was "delicious" his words not mine although I totally agree ^.^ The service was great.. I never felt forgotten or ignored and after all was said and done we even got treated to a complimentary dessert. Cheese cake with a mango sauce on top. Sooo good! I just cant say a single bad thing about this place. This place is truly a gem, a diamond in the rough at least for an outsider not familiar with the area. It might not look like much when you drive by but it is soo worth it! Definitely a place I will make sure to go to again and again when Im in Seattle. And let me just add my day continued to suck after but it was definitely the highlight of my day. Good stuff :D

I seldom eat Indian food but was so impressed with this restaurant I committed to writing a review before going to bed. On vacation from Phoenix and my son in law insisted on eating at this restaurant. I was skeptical at first but must admit that the charm of the place was too good to let go without a positive review. A number of elements came together to make this the most enjoyable evening dinner of our 5 day stay. First off the wait was reasonable despite it being very busy and no sooner were we seated than a huge platter of appetizers were brought out with friendly servers. These were not ordered they are just part of the restaurants service. They were delicious and plentiful. Not sure what all of them were but all were good. We had a party of 9 adults and the service was prompt and courteous. It was obvious that a culture of happy employees had been developed as they all seemed genuinely pleased to serve us. without being intrusive all the little things were handled well. Elbow room seems to be a problem in the Seattle restaurants we have visited, but not here. Cozy but plenty of room. Drinks were filled without asking and attention paid to how we were faring throughout the meal. Of special note Arfan Bhatti, the owner came by to make sure all was going well. We struck up a conversation with him as he seemed interested in our well being. The food was great, the comfort wonderful and the wild card was Arfan who was very sensitive to our group and by no means intrusive, was gracious to answer all our questions regarding Indian food, which led to questions into culture and history behind his enterprise. He was one of the most genuine originals of all the restaurants I have experienced. He has a polite genteel owners touch to his business and customers. It was a serendipitous evening of dining and I give it my highest marks. When back in Seattle I will make it a stop and encourage you to give it a try. Couldnt be more impressed.

The Pros: The service was outstanding The atmosphere Complementary Aloo starter and dessert Good Naan Good Veggie Samosas The Cons: Ordered Chicken Tikka it was very low quality. It was an off red colour and ther was a strong tang of canned tomato sauce flavor. The Lamb Briani did not have a deep spicy flavor and the meat was a bit dry I wish I could bump my rating up to 3.5 stars but overall my experience was just okay. If the quality of the main dishes are constant, than Taste of India is a decent place to go if youve never tried Indian food ( or at least good American/Indian food). However, if you do have a lot of experience with Indian cuisine, this may not be the best choice for you. One last point Im going to mention in hopes management reads this. When we asked for condiments like the pickled chutney, the server presented us with store bought jars of sauce. It was off putting. Like being presented with Heinz Ketchup. Between the not so great main dishes and this, taking that one extra step of putting the chutney in a ramekin would have left a much better impression. The restaurant is in a great location and there were a lot of little things about it that were good, but as it stands I would not recommend it.

Since the 4.5 Google Reviews rating induced us to try this restaurant, I am compelled to opine on our experience. Although we are not vegetarians and not of Indian descent, we are big fans of Indian cuisine and feel that it offers the best choice for those who step away from eating something that previously held a pulse. In that light, we ordered our two reference dishes: Baingan bharta and bhindi masala. We also ordered lamb vindaloo to gauge ToIs prowess at a meat preparation. The baingan bharta was the least disappointing dish, but it was still disappointing to us who love smoky eggplant. It was bland. Next, the bhindi masala was ruined by the overuse of onions and tomato, which overpowered the subtler flavor and signature texture of okra. The lamb vindaloo was the most disappointing. It had a sufficient quantity of meat, but there were potatoes in the curry. This was the first time Ive had potatoes in lamb vindaloo. Since vindaloo is a signature sauce, this was the worst aspect: It was closer to a korma in color and flavor. In fact, Trader Joes frozen lamb vindaloo entree is far superior. I realize that thats a harsh comparison, but TJs makes wonderful frozen Indian entrees. We see no reason to return to ToI.

I thoroughly enjoy eating good Indian food and have had the pleasure of dining in many of the finest Indian restaurants in London, England and Vancouver, B.C. The garbage served at "Taste Of India" is disgusting and overpriced. We started with the Keema Naan that was served under-cooked (raw dough) and greasy with a grotesque looking grey tasteless slab of ground beef??? at its center. (Wish Id cancelled the rest of our order and left the restaurant right then). The Beef Vindaloo arrived as an unappealing slurry of potatoes with stringy beef cubes. The Chicken Korma curry sauce was all wrong, the consistency was lumpy with dry flavorless pieces of chicken?? When this dish is prepared with even a modicum of skill it is absolutely luscious. I sampled all the above mentioned dishes and was left with a prevailing rancid aftertaste in my mouth. The only thing the kitchen got right was the basmati rice. The service was average at best. I cant even say I left hungry because Id lost my appetite altogether. Taste Of India banks on an undiscerning public. However if you must eat there, wear your Muck Boots.
