I try and support my local merchants however I have been disappointed before. I went in to order my husbands birthday cake. I first told the person who waited on me that I never did receive my Birthday coupon from October via email, so I was wondering why. She gave me the deer in the headlights look and did not even attempt to give me a reason. OK, so I made out another email birthday slip so that I could get any future specials and coupons. I have grand children and they are gluten free. I proceeded to pick out small cupcakes for the gluten free grand children attending the birthday celebration. I then ordered the Carrot Cake without nuts and anything else, just a traditional Carrot Cake. I paid for it because I was not sure if my daughter would be pick up the cake or someone else. Of course they required me to pay for it beforehand. Something went wrong at the register so she told me to be sure to bring in the receipt when picking up the cake and cupcakes so there would not be any problems. It turned out that I was swamped making my husbands special dinner and asked him to pick up his own birthday cake. I had to give him my receipt just in case. I told him, by the way when you pick it up ask them if you could get a small cupcake since its your birthday and I never got mine...lol. No big deal. Well he went in and they had the cake and cupcakes ready. He gave them the receipt and kindly said, "its my birthday thinking might as well ask". Well the person told him he needed his coupon. OK, he said I dont have one but its my birthday and of course he looked at the receipt and saw how much I paid for everything...he was shocked but ok, its his wifes treat. So he left and when we opened the cake to put the candles on it low and behold it had coconut......seriously. I asked for a traditional carrot cake no nuts and nothing else except a regular carrot cake. I would think she would have told me in the beginning when I asked about no nuts that she would have said, coconut ok? My husband hates coconut and after being disappointed that he wasnt going to eat his own birthday cake after being on a DIET 30/10 - and saving himself for his special day. What a disappointment. He proceeded to tell us all about his experience which really upset me. Of course I had the gluten free cupcakes and offered them to him and he said "of course not, those are gluten free and the last thing I want on my birthday is for my grand children not to have any of Papas birthday cake. I think they need to pay attention to details. It wasnt the $$$$, it was the disappointment and the customer service.. BE SURE TO ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS IF YOU WANT IT RIGHT....

We ordered our wedding cake for our wedding in September of 2012. I will break-down my review by the variety and complexity of services: Consultation: 2 Stars, Suzanne is incredibly pompous and has a huge chip on her shoulder, she “doesn’t need your business” type of attitude. In hindsight how did we not see it? Delivery: 5 Stars, cake arrived in perfect order at the appropriate location. Cake: 2 Stars, the cake like many of the local bakeries cuts corners and the cake tastes bland and flavorless. Lots of sugar to mask the lack of flavor. Wasn’t impressed! But by the time you eat the cake at the wedding, it’s over and who cares right? The Kicker: 1 Star. Suzanne promised us that we would not need to save our cake topper and she would make us a free 6 inch cake that looked exactly like our wedding cake. Pretty cool right!?!? Well that’s where this review is coming from. Sweet Cakes will mail you this tiny little coupon a month or two early and expect you to go put it in a safety deposit box or something, and god-forbid you happen to forget it when you show up to pick up your cake. I was barraged, belittled, yelled at, the rudest things...all in front of other customers! We spent $500 at this place and our thank you was “Well you need your coupon” and she put the cake right back in the fridge. Our experience may not be others, but personally, because of the level of aggression and failure to correct their mistakes, Suzanne is a mistake for your wedding. Just go with somebody else! It isn’t worth the headache later!

My 55th birthday cake came from this place. It was a champagne cake. The cake was very dry and coarse inside. The frosting was ok and buttery. For $30, if this cake represented the business, the end of that enterprise will be near. BIG TIP!! Never sell a cake that is old or overcooked!!!! Update: The owner, Suzanne, contacted me and wanted to make me another cake for which I accepted. I gave the cake to my daughter for her birthday 1 day after it was made, keeping it refrigerated. My review for this cake is a little better. It was moister but the cake itself still had a cornbread type texture which is unappealing to me. The frosting was a little better too. My expectations of a $30 (small) cake is to be moist, flavorful, not too sweet and tastes better than cake mix that you can buy at the store and bake at home. Bottom line, I am paying for someone else to bake me a cake that should taste better than Betty Crocker. This champagne cake still fails.

Sweet Cakes is the perfect bakery with quality, fresh, baked goods and gluten free items. My favorite is the gluten free coconut cupcakes and bars. Their new employee, Kelli, is an outstanding cake designer who can create a masterpiece for your upcoming celebration. In past years, I saw her high ratings on The Knot and on the King 5 yearly competition for cake decorators and at the Seattle Wedding Show at the Convention Center. She has created numerous special occasion cakes for me that were more beautiful than I ever expected. You will be pleased to have one of her breathtaking creations. Dont go anywhere else.

I had my sons birthday party yesterday and i had ordered for cakes and cookies. The theme was wheels on the bus. First of all i want to say a BIG THANK YOU to sweet cakes and the baker for me was Paul. The cake and cookies came wonderfully well. From the first day i had interacted with paul for a customized cake he was highly highly receptive of our ideas and ofcourse budget, Finally he delivered a beautiful and memorable chocolate cake piece. The bus shaped cookies was a cherry on top. Thanks again to everyone for making our party memorable. I will definitely recommend sweet cakes for anyone.

This place is in a prime real estate location in Kirkland but doesnt seem to be terribly busy, so I tipped my server 15% for putting two cupcakes in a box to go. I regretted it as soon as I left and saw there was a "card fee" charge she never mentioned. Im sure theyd say it was posted somewhere (not very obvious, since I didnt notice at the register) on premises. Why do businesses try to pull fast ones on their customers? They are charging more than enough for those small "regular sized" cupcakes. Maybe its a tourist location that just happens to also be a commute center.
