I had eaten Shabu Shabu before, but it was a few years ago in NY. I really enjoyed it and had a craving for it, so my boyfriend and I researched a place in Federal Way to eat this dish. Upon entering the restaurant, the ambiance was mediocre. Once we were seated at our table there was an awful stench emanating from the booth and floor. When I gagged, my boyfriend asked if I wanted to leave, but I really wanted Shabu Shabu so I said no. We ordered an appetizer of tempura which was pretty good and then our meal started to arrive in waves. The service was slow and unfriendly and the waitress never bothered to ask if we had eaten the dish before and needed some tips. After trying the soup like dish we were pretty satisfied (although it was nothing like the Shabu Shabu I had eaten in NY). After eating one small bowl, I was going for a second helping when I started to ladle broth into my bowl. When I looked into the ladle, low and behold there was an EARWIG in our soup. I couldnt believe it and almost threw up. My boyfriend immediately got up to tell the waitress and inform her that we werent paying for the $37 dish and all she said is that she would bring us a new dish out. After that, there was no way we were eating anything from this restaurant, but we offered to pay for our appetizer, which they gladly accepted. The waitresses nonchalance shocked me and she acted as though we ought to pay for our meal. I will never go here again and in fact, I am reporting this to the Dept. of Health.

I went here years ago and wasnt very satisfied, but upon reading more recent reviews that gave this establishment good ratings, I decided to try again. Im glad I did. The food was delicious and the portions were big. In fact I had to take a lot home. The atmosphere and look of the place sort of varies depending on where you are seated. Some sections are fancier than others. You have a sushi bar, some booths, tables, and then there is a separate room where you can eat in a traditional kneeling stance instead of sitting in a chair. The only complaint I have is that the service was somewhat slow. It was somewhat busy when I went there but it wasnt packed or anything. Took a while to be helped, the food came staggered for my party instead of everybody receiving it at the same time, and thinking back I dont recall ever being checked up on to see if everything was going okay. But besides that my experience was very pleasant and Ill probably go back in the future.

DO NOT EAT HERE! GOT VERY SICK! Stopped here after work after Googling to find a good place for take out sushi. Waitress (who turned out to be the owner) seemed agitated, and while waiting for our order, stood at front counter putting ointment in her eyes, GROSS! I hoped silently that she would wash her hands, which she didnt. Turns out she was the one who prepared our food! After paying WAY to much for our dinner (chicken teriyaki - $14.95 for example), we took our food home only to toss out...it was TERRIBLE! The only thing edible was the salad, rice and some soggy tempura. A side dish, a potato salad seemed salvageable so I ate that. Ten minutes later, I was SICK...all night and into the next day! When we returned the next day to report to the owner, hoping for some type of expression of concern and MAYBE some compensation, she could care less! SAVE YOUR $$ AND YOUR HEALTH AND LOOK FOR A REPUTABLE RESTAURANT!!!

Ive been going this restaurant more than 7 years... I never disappointed like yesterday. We order Sashimi as all the time.. Price went up (I did not know.) , that dish was not worth it. Anyway.. Sashimi was good for eat, we did not any complain about that. When they surved the side dish (raw(?) sea cucumber), it smell so disgusting and that was rotten. My friend ate two bite, we all spit that out. We call the owner more than 5 times, she let the waitress go and take care. I saw what she did... even she did eye contact with me. she ignored me. When we left, we told owner... about bad food and service, she was so mean... More thing, my friend started diarrhea, she went the restroom 4 times within 30 minutes. Even all this happened, they did not say any sorry. I never go again... that restaurant and everyone has to know...about this.

Ive been coming to Akasaka for about 4 years. They have great sushi, its my favorite restaurant in the Federal Way area. I never had a problem with the food. A lot of reviews mention how rude the staff appears. Its not true. The owner is a very nice lady, she always greets me and says hi. Sometimes it can take them a while to make the order when its crowded, but most of the time they have only one chef making sushi, so the wait time is understandable. Some of my favorite items are the Ahi Poke (pieces of tuna with onions and seaweed), rainbow roll, rainier roll, shrimp love and dragon roll.

Like many Pac Hwy restaurants, you take the good with the so-so, but there was much to enjoy here. The building hasnt aged well, but inside, the sushi (imaginative and well-sized), sashimi (fresh), shrimp tempura (crisp and varied), and yakisoba (well flavored but a bit heavy on the onions) are not second rate. Our plentiful dinners were served with some Korean delicacies (Kimchee and fish cake), which were perfectly spiced and flavorful. Service was OK. My friends agreed that the prices were very reasonable and that we would come here again.

Because of my friends strong recommendation, Ive been to the restaurant a few times even though I have to drive almost an hour to get there. The restaurant offers very traditional Japanese style dining experience and serves good Sushi. (Some are right out of the tank and very fresh.) As many other restaurants in Federal Way, you can eat for less compared to restaurants in North Seattle / Bellevue area. So, Ill say it is worth the driving if you are a huge sushi fan and doesnt mind spending some money for it.

The sushi chef was not here for lunch time. My beef terriaki, ordered medium, was luke warm and on the rare side. After serving our food, the waitress didnt come back until 10 minutes AFTER we finished eating, even though we were the only table in the place (should have been a sign). My husband and I both ordered beef teriyaki, he was served sauce and I was served a broth. The tempura was the only good thing.

The sushi was good, but avoid the ramen. The sushi was a good size, flavor and the rice was sticky and moist. They also brought out some palet cleansers of pickled cucumbers, pickled bean sprouts and Kim chee. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen as well, but the noodles and broth tasted like exactly what you would get at the grocery store. Salty beef broth made from bullion and mushy noodles.

Very friendly staff and accommodating as far as food preparation goes. Got a HUGE plate of food, for a reasonable price; not to mention it was delicious (the picture was of the half of the chicken yakisoba I couldnt manage to finish!) Food came out fast and fresh. Pupus were tasty and fresh as well. Highly recommend it!
