First time here. The food was well over my expectations. Large portions and beautiful presentation. The service was impeccable! My original drink that I ordered was the spiked Shirley Temple...absolutely horrific drink...DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT order that drink it tastes like soap. Yes it is from high quality alcohol. However, the drink itself is off and is missing something. Possibly a bar of soap as its garnish for a heads up. Anyways, my second drink the diablo pequeño was phenomenal. Perfectly blended. The best part of the experience at a bar is always the waiters or waitresses... Esteban was our waiter and he was very good. He was patient, calm, precise, and detailed. Esteban was very friendly and kind. It is not often that you come across a waiter of his magnitude. Im sure that the other staff here is great as well, however I just wanted to be sure to give him his due gratitude. I will definitely be coming here again! Well dont "thekoi"/"twokoi"!!!!!

We were quoted a price for reservations, the per head minimum. Upon speaking to the manager were told that our quote is wrong and she wont honor it. It was a $5 difference per head. She was rude saying "Its only a $75 difference, you cant afford that?!" ($75 difference for the whole party) The manager claimed that it was "company policy" to spend $X per person to have a private room, and "everyone who works here knows that!" and there was nothing she could do about it. She was very rude and short with us. Completely inappropriate. Shes lost our business for life, and lost her company quite a bit of money. Im sure the owner will not be happy to hear that. Its not about the money, its about being lied to, then spoken to in a condescending manner. I would not recommend TwoKoi for private dining. Too likely for others to be lied to and then spoken to in a rude manner when you call them on their lies.

If you want authentic Japanese Food ... this is NOT the place to be. That said, many items on the menu are pretty good, but then there are a few dishes that leaves you thinking "What the **** was that! The sushi here is decent, but definately not the best in Tacoma. There is a fairly good select of alcohol drinks. The atmosphere here is nothing really special ... if anything it can get pretty noisy. The price is steep for what you get here ... our party of four came to $134 (4 entrees plus three sodas and a glass of water). The service was mixed, at times lots of attention and then she disappeared for 20 - 25 minutes, then lots of attention and then we waited almost 15 minutes (more than two entire innings of the baseball game on TV) to get the bill ... total time there was about a hour & 45 minutes.

Visiting Tacoma from Beaverton, Oregon and stopped in this restaurant that we saw from the streetcar. They were very busy with the rush of people after attending an event at the Tacoma Dome. The food was excellent. The Calamari was excellent, the Bento plater with beef was perfect. The ice cream desert with chocolate was very interesting and also very good. I wanted a frozen margarita however they didnt have a blender. The bartender made an attempt to use crushed ice and I appreciated his effort. It was excellent meal to finish off an enjoyable evening. Our Japanese waitress was very sweet and made our evening to remember in Tacoma. Timothy Morgan.

Sushi was Average.. my expectations were set a little higher from reading past reviews.. the sushi itself was americanized..we ordered the Salmon Lovers Roll, Red Dragon Roll and Shrimp Tempura Roll, all very comon sushi rolls.. salmon lovers lemon mash was very intense with flavor.. ask them to add light lemon if you order unless u love massive amounts of lemons on ur salmon. The restaurant itself was set up very nicely.. a nice spot right next to the water and the glass museum. i enjoyed my experience there.. but for the hype theres better places to get sushi

Do yourself a favor and avoid Two Koi Japanese Restaurant. If you insist on trying it, only order sushi. Their sushi is okay, but their entrees are on par with Safeway Chinese food. And also, if you insist on going, do everything possible to avoid Emi as a server. She has been unfriendly, slow, non responsive, and downright horrible to my party during each attendance. If you think I am just whining, I can assure you that this is not based on a solitary meal. I have eaten here many times (I am often invited here for sushi) and have yet to be impressed.

Certainly impressed. We ordered the Tuna in a Box, Las Vegas and Rock & Roll around 4:45pm, only to have our kind server encourage us to wait for the happy-hour special at 5pm where 3 rolls would be $25. Cant expect that from another restaurant! Very simple presentation; nothing to extravagant. Wait wasnt that long, staff was kind, environment was pleasant and clean. Sundays around this time downtown Tacoma isnt that busy so parking was easy to find (also metered parking is free). Well done! 10/10 will come back again.

Restaurant did not staff properly. Only one waitress during happy hour. She was a trooper. However with many empty tables. It took us 20 min before she was able to acknowledge the people waiting at the door to be seated. Some people ended up leaving. Food was OK. Prices were nice for happy hour. 3rolls for $25. Mussel soup was disappointing. 3 mussels in their shells with a big bowl of just broth. Will probably come again. Just hope the restaurant staffs better so that the wait staff doesnt become overwhelmed.

The BEST fish in Tacoma!!! The owner knows what he is doing and runs a great restaurant. One of the few places to carry o-toro (super fatty tuna), ju-toro (less fatty tuna), and fatty salmon belly on the regular. I also highly recommend wasabi tobiko with quail egg if youre feeling adventurous. I LOVE the spicy mussel soup! Beautiful cuts of the highest quality of fish with a great staff and atmosphere. If you are unsure on what to try the chirashi bowl is perfect!

The service was very friendly and helped to make some good gustatory choices. The miso soup was as expected for a good Japanese restaurant. I had chefs choice sashmi (which is usually the best and healthiest) and it was a grand slam! Presentation, portions, and poise! The salmon was wonderful, and my favourite combination was the pickled eel and pickled vegetables with it. Im back again tonight! Definitely a great sushi spot in a fish lovers Paradise.

If youre ever in Tacoma and you want sushi this is the place to go!!! Highly suggest the Rock n Roll. Never fails. My girlfriend and I come here at least once a month. Come here at whatever time. Theres usually never a wait.We usually get the same waiter, Cruz if Im correct. He is amazing! Everyone else honestly sucks... but food, atmosphere, and everything overall is wonderful. 10/10 on flavors. They wont disappoint.

Service was fine on a Tuesday night but the sushi (had the sushi super deluxe and my wife had the chirashi box ) was very mediocre bordering on bad quality. The shrimp, octopus, and eel were all over cooked. In the chirashi box there was just a giant lump of ground spicy tuna. I say spicy tuna but it was not even that spicy. I have had better sushi on a Chinese buffet in Houston than what was served here.
