have been to 100s of these Japanese steak houses and the only thing Im usually hoping and expecting to be different is the show ... I was very excited while waiting for our table as some of the other chefs were really turning it up ... so when it was our turn to sit down needless to say I was hoping for a similar show ... well, as it happens much more often than not, the show was for lack of a better word very lackluster ... only two "tricks", the big fire and the shrimp toss .. The food was cooked and tasted as expected, which I will say was better than average so that was a good job there ... but the kicker that completely brought this rating down was the fact that Kyoto charges for a "fried rice" option which is essentially just the white rice with some soy sauce added (ok, a few frozen vegetables) ... $2.50 for that matter ... that was a complete bummer ... I dont think I have ever been charged for the option to add soy sauce to my rice ... although I do remember a time when my favorite started charging for teriyaki sauce ... which is probably why it ultimately became not my favorite ... LOL If visiting this area again, I would def. seek other options first, not because I would not go back here, because i would, but really because it didnt knock my socks off to say "I def. have to go back here"!

First let me just say that walking into the restaurant, the smell was HORRIFIC. It smelt like a dead cat inside. Maybe it was the water stream, who knows... But that was something my bf and I got past being that there was good reviews on the place. We were seated, but we had to sit exactly where the host seated us, and we werent even seated next to each other. Still, we wanted to give this place a fair shake. Our drink orders were taken, they were ok. Once it was time to place our order the server let us know that the hibachi only came with one side... WHITE RICE, no noodles or fried rice like all the other hibachi restaurants weve been to. She also informed us that the actual fried rice thats usually cooked with the hibachi is $2.50 EXTRA!!! SO U MEAN TO TELL ME THAT WERE PAYING $27 A PLATE FOR GRILLED CHICKEN ONLY??!!! AND IF WE WANT OUR RICE FRIED THATLL BE EXTRA???? ABSOLUTELY NOT! THE PRICES ARE ALSO RIDICULOUS! BEFORE WE COULD FINISH OUR DRINKS, WE WERE HEADED OUT. NEVER AGAIN! WE ENDED UP GOING TO THE OTHER HIBACHI RESTAURANT DOWN THE STREET MIYAKI SUSHI & GRILL WHERE WE WERE TREATED MUCH MORE PLEASENTLY, THE PRICES WERE WAAAAAAAAAAY LESS EXPENSIVE AND WE GOT ALL 3 SIDES WITH OUR ORDER. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE

Kyoto had decent sushi and the service was mediocre but the biggest issue was the sushi chef. We ordered 4 rolls of sushi but he ended up mixing up the orders. I ordered a spicy salmon roll and my boyfriend ordered a tuna roll. The issue was not that he mixed up the order but that he came to our table to explain that he did not make a mistake and that we were wrong. He clearly mixed up our sushi orders. I do not like tuna and my boyfriend is allergic to salmon but yet he repeatedly told me that the roll we thought was "spicy tuna" was salmon. Just by looking at how fatty the fish was along with coloring you could tell it was NOT salmon. Instead of just fixing the order he refused to admit he was wrong and stood by his answer. He was stubborn and unprofessional. I do not belive that the customer is always right but I do cook a variety of fish on a regular basis and he simply made a mistake that could have been fixed. Instead he was argumentative and did not simply fix his mistake. I would not recommend going back anytime soon.

Being military we travel all over and eat at several Japanese Steak Houses throughout the world. Kyoto was horrible. The place is old and smells musty, dirt and dust all over, food crumbs on the chairs that look like it had been there a while, sticky counters, and simply outdated. The bathrooms are the most disguising restrooms and not very sanitary, in fact my 12 year old daughter cried that she didnt want to use them but she had to go so bad. When a child would rather be in pain and hold it than use a bathroom, thats pretty bad. The food was bland and dry. I think I used more Yum Yum sauce on this food than I have in any other Steak House I have eaten at in 40+ years of my life. A $200 dinner that we could have spent at something more appealing from OpenTable reservations. The only thing pleasant about it was the chef who was trying hard to be entertaining but failed, I at least applaud his efforts with a one star review. Visiting Williamsburg Virginia? Do yourself a favor and DONT visit Kyoto!

If you dont want to read a long story, just stop now and dont go here. This place is terrible. The waitress repeatedly forgot very simple requests, got our order wrong several times, and took extremely long to bring out food (about an hour after we ordered). There were also several strange occurrences such as the waitress giving forks for soup. The food was of very poor quality considering the price. After getting extremely tired of waiting for the check, we left, only to be confronted in the parking lot by a waitress waving the bill around. We returned inside to pay the bill, which was about $10 above the actual amount and had no items listed. We tried to point this out and pay the correct amount, at which point the manager pretended not to speak English. 10/10 for time-wasting ability and the sheer balls it takes to pretend you dont speak English, but 0/10 for actual food and service.

Ill admit.... I probably shouldve looked at the other reviews. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE save yourself the frustration while on vacation and try somewhere else. From the exterior the place looks very nice.... Thats were everything ends. My family was consistently left unattended...No refills, my meal never came. The chef takes too long to come and rushes to the next table. Even a local sitting at the table couldnt believe the service was so horrible. My wife asked to speak to a manager when my stuff never came and was told "the manager is too busy to see you right now." Cool.... I shared that news with other potential victims in the lobby and we walked out together. This place is rough....:(

Took forever (about 15 min) for us to simply get water. That should have been my first clue. As an out-of-towner, my expectations were high and I was sorely underwhelmed. My biggest surprize was that fried rice on the hibachi grill costed extra... Who does that? Where Im from, the hibatchi grill (Kobe and Shogun) is all inclusive... Its a hibatchi grill so why would Kyoto serve steamed rice while charging additional for something that should be included? My husband ordered sushi, which he never received, and I was in the bathroom all night after eating this stuff they call food. Go elsewhere and save $27 per person.

On a family vacation. The Deep Fried Philly Sushi was so much better here than back home near Philly. I agree with another post about the soup...there was something off with the broth. It tasted fishy to.me and I am accustomed to chicken broth. All of our meals, however, were cooked to order and very good. It varied from chicken, steaks, salmon and shrimp. Delicious! Our chef was okay but there was another we saw while there that was much more entertaining and our drinks werent refreshed as quickly as we would have liked. Overall though a fun family vacation dinner.
