Bottomline: I spent more money and time at this fastfood like place than at the sit down Japanese restaurant on the tourist strip. Full story: We didnt want to drive to Newport News for Sushi and Kyote isnt that great so I was glad to find another sushi place in Williamsburg. We were disappointed when we pulled up that it looked like a fast food place, menu items above the counter, self serve drinks and few tables. That being said, we were still instructed to take a seat, perhaps because of my 3 children in tow? A nice nonEnglish speaking girl brought us paper menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. So is this full service or nah? She didnt understand lemonade (from the fountain) and brought us a lemon line Gatorade and I ordered a saki but she didnt ask which size or temperature, which might have been fine since it is hot outside she could have assumed cold. It was a full 33 mins until a different lady came around to ask us what we wanted to eat. Now; perhaps I should have gone up to the counter however there was a line of carryout orders and they were also waiting a very long time for their food. One lady was told to get her order at 6pm, but was still not ready at 6:40 so we were not the only ones waiting a long time. I reordered the Saki and also ordered edamame, a shrimp rice bowl, a chicken rice bowl, eel hosomaki and soymaki. The edamame came out (served cold) with a salt shaker on the side. It was very good. The miso soup came out after we had eaten all the edamame and normally I do not like miso soup however since we were starving and a bit chilled from the AC I tried it. It was delicious. The shrimp rice bowl had verge large shrimp that were flavorful and my daughter enjoyed however she commented that the sauce and rest of the bowl were bland. The chicken rice bowl was not very impressive; the chicken was very dry. My eel hosomaki was good. The soymaki was good however I think they used some form of shrimp or crab salad mixture and not real pieces of fish. I would have let the children order ice cream however we had already been there for an hour and a half. I went to the counter to get to go containers and pay. I inquired about how much the saki was thinking I would take one to go however it was 12.99. 12.99 for 10oz saki!

We chose this place because they were the highest rated sushi place in Williamsburg. Atmosphere doesnt matter to me at all but if it does to you, know that this place is a hole in the wall. I give it three stars because the food was disappointing; I have no idea how its rated so well. The sushi was cold, which I prefer mine slightly warm. The rice was the softest rice Ive ever had--almost mushy. The flavor was OK, nothing special, although they put a lot of sesame seeds on the top of the rolls that I had which I enjoyed. Tried their fried rice as well and it was so weird and had a licorice flavor to it. I think I wouldnt have been so disappointed if their prices were a little cheaper, but Id say this place was actually sightly more expensive than your average sushi joint in hampton roads. Cant say they were awful, but we definitely wished wed gone somewhere else.

The sushi and service are exceptional. I have been a customer ever since Tin opened the place and have never been disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and made to order, the servings are ample (I recommend the 20 pc. Variety Deluxe or its 30 pc. bigger brother if you are quite hungry). One of my favorite dishes is the calamari salad, but there are plenty of options for those who are not fans of sushi as well. A few times a year my family gathers there for an evening of sake and sushi, ordering roll after roll to share and pass around. It is a great time, and the cost per person is not bad at all. I highly recommend Gold Taste. We have never had anything other than a great experience.

I live in Virginia Beach and try out quite a few different sushi restaurants, just happened to pass this one while visting Williamsburg and decided to drop in for a quick dinner. Just a small shop in the corner of a shopping center, not fancy, but great if youre looking to grab a quick meal without the dress-up and wait. The food was great, very fresh and tasteful. The service was amazing, the owner was very polite, patient and helpful. Will definitely be back when in town.

I do the understand how this place is rated so well. The prices are really high for the quality of food you get. The first time I tried them I got all sushi and when I get home I took one bite and immediately regretted spending the money on it. But they seem more like a Chinese restaurant so I figured I would try something that wasnt sushi. I got fried rice and some other stuff and it was all just terrible. Basically the foods not good and really not worth the price.

Best sushi in Williamsburg, easily. Having been to Asia (granted, not Japan), possibly some of the best sushi I have ever had. Service is extremely friendly and very customer oriented. They will happily answer any questions about their menu, which includes an incredible variety of options. I would HIGHLY recommend Gold Taste to anyone looking for sushi or Asian cuisine in general. I wish I could eat Gold Taste all the time.

Took my daughter for lunch but it did not deliver at all. Serving was very small with a high price tag for a fast food like place. Yakisoba was not soba noodles but instead some salty mushy instant noodles. Imitation crab maki (1 roll), Yakisoba (1/3 of a normal serving), two miso soups. The bill was $30. I would have gladly paid that if food was good and sufficient but it was not. We will not be back.

The sushi here is amazing!!! Everything here is super fresh and made to order. Plan to wait as it takes time to make sushi exceptional. I have been all over the country eating sushi. CA sushi was hard to come close to, but this was just as good. Also, had the vegetable fried rice and it was delicious. Definitely recommend it.

Went for the sushi and this place definitely delivers quality food! Dont be fooled by the appearance when you first walk in. Price is a little high, but you will quickly forget about that once you begin to eat. Staff is friendly and was helpful in suggesting food to order. A must go if you are in the mood for sushi done right

Best Sushi and the most flavorful rice bowl you will ever have. One rice bowl and you will not be able to find that unique flavor anywhere else. Always a tough decision, rice bowl or the sushi. Oh, and save room for the dynamite roll for dessert. Okay, the secret is out. Plus they just remodeled the interior. Nice.

A great find! Sushi is fresh and good, and the prices are great. You can get great, fresh, made-to-order sushi cheaper than the stuff at the grocery stores. The woman that takes orders remembered me and what I ordered on my second visit. Truly one of the best off-the-beaten-path places in town.
